I run a non-profit sewing studio near Washington DC and have gifted at least 5 Kenmores similar to yours to some of my students. I watch for them on Facebook, Goodwill, and Craigslist and buy them with donations from my studio. They are such workhorses and I love them. I use a Bernina 830 Record from 1975(my graduation present) and have 4 more in my studio. I will add your channel to my list of channels I give my students. Thank you for sharing your talent and ideas.

I love watching Lauren sew on her Kenmore. I had that Kenmore model as my very first sewing machine. I still have my Bernina 930 Record after 42 years!

I really like the use of the binding. I think to get the top to be more sturdy through the wash, it would be advantageous to use French seams. I am always very happy with the results of this type of seam.

It’s beautiful! I am hacking the TATB Indigo dress to make a dress version! I have made my alterations and ready to choose a fabric for a toile. I am adding a placket to the front for coverage. Have you seen the silver saga patterns? I think you should make the Juliette pattern. 😊

I self-drafted mine a while ago! I really like the aesthetic of your videos! I have thought about documenting my process in videos but it seems like a lot of work 😅 Thank you and keep up the good work!

I like the look of this blouse, but not the front openness. Any suggestions of closing the front, yet keeping the ties? Thank you.
@LaurenJohnson
@LaurenJohnson Месяц назад
Thank you! I think it would be easy to add a little placket behind the front that you could secure with snaps-- I may experiment with this next myself!

PLEASE be careful using vintage teacups because some of the paint used on them contains lead!😣

Honey, you made a little mistake. You said that you had bias binding but you were going to use it as bias tape. You then used it to bind something. That would be using it as binding. You also didn’t use it right. You’re supposed to fold it all up and sew it from the back one time, carefully catching the front. The way you did it leaves a seam on the front that was unnecessary.
@margaretroberts6258
@margaretroberts6258 Месяц назад
I don’t quite understand your explanation….. I’d love to know
@vernieplummer5148
@vernieplummer5148 Месяц назад
@@margaretroberts6258 Well, that product that you were using is called bias binding. Bias tape is the same material just not folded up. When you put bias binding around an arm hole or a neck hole, that is binding the seam. The way that you did it is OK, but many times it’s sewed on the outside first and then folded so that the color of the binding shows around the edge as a kind of little accent. To do it perfectly, you sew it on the outside, just the way you did, fold it over so that it will show as the edge of the seam, and stitch in the ditch to attach the back part. Does that make more sense? I think it’s pretty hard to visualize unless you watch a video, of which I’m sure there are millions. Good luck to you just starting out, and I will watch you in future. Have a great day!
@cubbylevi1764
@cubbylevi1764 19 дней назад
I have done the same thing with bias tape that Lauren did. Hundreds of times. It works well and looks so finished, regardless of terminology or semantics. 😊 I’ve watched others sew (UK for example) but Lauren’s sewing processes are just like mine. I’ve been sewing for 45 years.
