Imagine for 20+ years Oda has been releasing a manga Chapter almost every week working 6 days with so little sleep at 3 hrs (maybe I think it's his minimum like 3-4 hrs, I have met a business owner who actually sleep this little as well as she's used to it) The anime has to rely on Oda Manga chapter release (on average 1 episode covers 1 chapter) and they have to put Fillers to increase the gap between the anime and manga to avoid getting too caught up to date with the manga. He is one of the craziest Mangaka to work this long and hard. Most Manga are now like monthly chapter release not weekly. And for One Piece Oda has planned the story a long time ago, just adding some extra stuff along the way but he knew the ending from the start. Imagine this great masterpiece he started writing when he is just 20 years old but got the idea way earlier in his teens. I can't imagine having to Draw out each scene, Write the dialogues for so many/ all the characters he created, and have the story be connected and interesting each week (with his team of helpers doing the background shading/ little help with building fill ups but all the expressions, characters are drawn by oda only! He is worth around 200 million USD and it's sad to say Japan doesnt pay mangakas (manga authors) much and perhaps Netflix might earn back even more than Oda for just using his work.( You would pay a script writer many times more if compared to the length of stories Oda made)

The benefits of getting the manga is that Oda has extra stories for the side characters (remember Buggy adventures, Coby and Helmeppo training ? ) those are the examples of it but the later ones are not covered in the anime, also Oda is quite funny in his SBS section which is a page where he answers his Fans questions. You get to know more about the Character quirkiness or what if scenarios etc that are not covered in the anime

One piece is Oda's life's work. He knows his story, he imagined it from a very young age, he knows the ending, he has modified it a little over the years but everything he wanted to tell is present in his story. And yes he's the best at forshadowings, they're all over his writing. Sometimes something is said in episode 150, we don't pay attention and 200 episodes later, it comes back to our memory. He knows exactly what he's doing with these forshadowings, he doesn't put them at random and above all they are very important for the future.

'A little' is an understatement. Originally OP was planned for a 5 year stretch. now its 5 times as long probably aiming for the 28year mark. Oda is a brilliant writer but as you can see with the 'sadest flashback' he is great in making stuff up along the way. A real dungeon master if I ever saw one.

This was such a good plot twist! I especially was shocked by Kaku, he seemed like such a good, easygoing guy, and not in a suspicious way. It was weird that Kalifa was nowhere to be found in these cpuple eps but with all the chaos going on i really forgot about her on my first read😅

Oda has outlines too though, even if his schedule is insane -- he usually is three weeks ahead of the released chapter, but he plans stuff like months before -- they’ve released some of the outlines for his latest chapters

Idk how Oda does it but his foreshadowing is on the next level. He could hint something in episode 1 and explore it 400 chapters later. Many of his foreshadowing were hundreds of chapters/episodes hinted beforehand. He could have been going back to in his story draft to add some tidbits, I'm sure he does, but he also planted little seeds--seemingly irrelevant details--waaaay before the specific event. He is just amazing.

I love watching people react to the reveal of the CP9, it's always a shocking moment. I always think of the CP9 as the CIA of the anime, and how they are a branch of the world government kind of make me think that Oda intended them to be like the CIA but IDK I haven't really looked into what was his inspiration for CP9.

Jason, at the end of your discussion is absolutely true. Infact we as long time fans, we know that Oda have been presenting us a story and planting a hidden seed at the same time. This still happens even at the latest timeline. Over long periods of time, you will notice the hidden seeds from way before getting revealed. That is what makes onepiece so good. I believe the ending of all will definitely going be the most beautiful piece of story ever told, revealing all the mystery seeds planted through out the series.

I bet Oda sometimes picks something of the past chapters to do new stuff... But as you go on watching One Piece you get that he knew what he was doing from the start. Just because he keeps doing it over and over... He shows little things that get developed so far ahead... He has some notebooks in his studio that he uses to keep track of untold history and after some arcs he eliminates them by putting those untold histories into the pages...

I forgot to add, if you want to appreciate and support Oda, you can buy his manga (like Harry Potter you buy the book for direct revenue compared to other franschise low commissions ) right now Box Set 4 (covers from anime episode 600+?) is the cheapest on Amazon ($103 for 20 books) as looking at the trend it goes more expensive the previous set as newer ones are released. I just hope Oda one dah hits #1 in best selling comics as it's currently second place after superman lol. Sold 500 million copies so far 😂 And regarding Osaka in Japan, Do you know they have Live One Piece performance in Universal Studio Japan during the summer every year? It's like Disneyland but One Piece and they even have the actor cast Sanji serves you in their Restaurant! You can look it up One Piece USJ on RU-vid for those vids in Japanese, I would still pay and watch them regardless of my limited japanese knowledge 😂😂

The To Be Continued I wonder if they were always one to one to the manga chapter's end page.. the end page is mostly really strong..so TBC in the anime giving the same effect, has to be one to one. Sometimes, the anime cuts the episode short, leaving that strong TBC effect out..

While you are correct that Oda publishes weekly the author is usually working on manuscripts that are 2 weeks to 1 month ahead of the actual publication. In terms of One Piece specifically though, Oda already had a general outline of the entire story from the very beginning. One Piece is the first story that Oda wrote and it's something he thought up of while growing up. Of course it's very different to what he originally thought of, but the idea of One Piece came from his own imagination while growing up.
