Try this authentic Crab Masala Curry, influenced by the Konkan Cuisine, a delicious recipe that will leave you craving for more. Here I am using Mud Crabs which are black in colour. Fisher folks say that they go to the river with a lantern on ‘amavasya' (no moon day) to catch them as they are more fleshy on these days. These mud crabs live in small nest-like holes in the sand. In this recipe, the walking legs are pureed, strained and used in the gravy (if you don't prefer, you can skip this step while preparing). Crab meat is a great source of protein, long chain omega-3 fatty acids and riboflavin (vitamin B2) and selenium which are essential nutrients required for the body. Crab meat is good in reducing Triglycerides.
This spicy crab delicacy is easy to prepare and is a wonderful blend of different spices and roasted coconut. Serve Crab Masala with hot steamed rice, rotis or even rice bhakris.

Ingredients :
3 Mud Crabs (washed & cleaned well, with pincers and walking legs)
Marination :
½ tsp + ¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
1 tbsp + 1 tsp Lemon Juice
Other Ingredients
3 tbsp Coriander Leaves
For Masala Paste :
2 tbsp Vegetable Oil
150 gms Grated Coconut
1 medium sized Onion (sliced)
1 inch Ginger (sliced)
10 to 12 Garlic cloves
4 Green Chillies
¼ tsp Fenugreek Seeds
1 tbsp Coriander Seeds
½ tsp Peppercorns
1 tsp Sesame Seeds
½ tsp Cumin Seeds
½ tsp Fennel Seeds
1 large sized Tomato (roughly sliced)
4 tbsp Coriander Leaves
1 marble size Tamarind
Water as required
For the Gravy :
5 tbsp Vegetable Oil
¼ tsp Mustard Seeds (Rai)
½ piece of a medium sized Onion (sliced)
1 tbsp Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
1 sprig Curry Leaves
Salt as per taste
250 ml Water
½ tsp Garam Masala Powder
½ cup Coriander Leaves
Note : tsp is teaspoon
tbsp is tablespoon
1 cup is 200 ml
