I also really liked the whole shell mechanic. Them having different stats and abilities and having durability forces you to change them which stops the combat getting boring.
An it's floating or swimming I think. I'm just guessing here. Not sure if lobster swim cause Dat ain't no crab. Had a crab on his back. An fought sum. The lobster souls crab sea animals an the shit game. The shit positive vibes meaning. I'm bout to by on Friday.
And the fucking "Old Ocean" reveal, they must've had Hidetaka Miyazaki as a consultant because this is what it would feel like if FromSoft got to make a SpongeBob game
RU-vid recommended the trailer yday and after I saw it, I instantly checked the steam page to see the overall review rating, which was very positive. I immediately knew it was going to be my first souls-like Elden ring can wait a few more years
@@maaki50 the loan shark (which is actually a prawn) and Firth are Michael They also got Gianni Matragano (Gabriel Ultrakill) to voice Roland Circletoons is also some of the new carcinia residents + tortellini
32:33 The Sands Between.. what a cute reference, I love this game. There's a passion behind this game that's very visible, you can tell the devs love souls and souls-likes.
I absolutely love Inkerton. First off, his name is Inkerton; clear reference to Pinkertons. More importantly, he's called a "hunter" while sporting the tophat and off-hand pistol, occasionally giving him a silhouette not dissimilar to that of Bloodborne's Hunters. This game REEKS creativity and I love it.
@@catnipnapkin3329 British = Bloodborne yeah. Just like Japanese = Sekiro! But the character does have like a Cockney accent, which goes with the whole hunter theming.
Honestly, the lobster guard enemy designs are pretty unique and clever, with the shell around their heads having a grill visor and their multiple legs being horse-like.
I'm impressed by the creativity. They turned a lobster into a convincing mounted knight, and the shellsplitter hitting people with a bicycle lock hammer which is also a guillotine is super cool.
the crazy part is if the mantis shrimp boss had accurate hit speed charlie wouldn't even be able to recognize that he was hit until he was already dead
@@WiseMysticalWizard For anybody who wants context, Joe Biden, in one of his speeches, said, "America is a country that can be described in a single word. Asafutimah, fthm, sorry, I was in the foothills of the Himalayas with Xi Jinping." He was attempting to preface the word with a story, but stuttered, and now it's infamous (and really funny). As for the word that describes America, it's "opportunity".
I'm very impressed how many different unique bosses they were able to make, they truly used every percentage of their brain coming up with ways to turn different types of crabs into boss fights
The second to final boss being essentially the manifestation of all the pain from people "screaming into the void" is a really neat concept. Imma steal it for a DnD campaign.
and then the boss right after was "cryptobro that takes the bomb of the manifestation of all the pain of people screaming into the void and tries to squish massive city with trash"
41:43 "OOOH, IT'S A HITACHI WAND!" ah, I see that he already knows how legendary of a weapon the hitachi wand is, I expected nothing less from the wetness wacko himself (also it's crazy that they'd put that in the game, the devs really went insano style with it)
35:53 or the poison swamp area (there weren't any good timestamps since they were cut from the video, so I think charlie hated them as much as everyone else)
All the Sekiro inspired stuff never feels stolen or copied, the parry mechanic even tries to create a new feel to it (instead of blocking to parry, you _unblock_ to parry) you can really tell that the devs respect the genre as a whole
The way he started going off about pandas reminds me of my old highschool chem teacher. He hated pandas so bad and always said we should let them die out. Him and Charlie would have the most heated and funniest debate ever.
I was hearing the final boss voice and I was like "Is that Michael Reeves? Nah, there's no way." and then I googled it, and it fucking is. If your game has Micheal Reeves as a final boss, it's an instant 10/10.
Just finished this game myself. As someone who really liked Aggro Crab's first game, Going Under, it's really cool to see them knock it out of the park on only their second production. This studio's going places, I think.
I saw you playing this and got really interested. So I bought it yesterday. I've already beaten it once with an attack heavy character and now I'm going for a pure umami build. I'm obsessed and I hope they find a way to so a ng+ or post game content. I legitimately yelled at the screen when I thought two of my favorite characters died at the end. The best blend of Banjo Kazooie Era Rare writing and animation with great souls like game play and I'm in love.. Truly a masterpiece. Especially when they patch out the bigger bugs
I beat the royal shellsplitter without a shell with +3 attack because i had no idea shells existed and he beat me 3 times before i actually defeated him.
10:10 it’s fear, it makes you hide in your shell making you unable to attack or heal but you can still dodge. To reduce the buildup of fear just hide in your shell or dodge outside their LOS
Grovekeeper Topoda is my favorite boss in any souls like game. So punishing but still fair to fight. Not to mention how cool his concept and his attacks are. His voice actor killed it. Love this game and strong competitor for GOTY
There's a hidden path behind the throne room you can access it from the bottom of the map or if you launch yourself on the roof. Do a jump puzzle and some grappling and you'll find a knights helmet with an ABSURD amount of defense. and it looks pretty cool too (:
It's truly so funny watching you play, and talk about how great it is after watching DarkSydePhil get shitted on and say it's unpolished because he's buns at games.💀
In my play through i clipped through a wall next to the giant comb crab in the destroyed castle skipping a decent chunk of the map. Speed runs are gonna go crazy
30:34 the second I saw a freaking Mantis Shrimp as a boss I wanted to see how dumb would Charlie be to try parry it's attack, wasn't disappointed lol For context, a Mantis Shrimp punch has the same energy as a bullet
I saw this game forever ago on TikTok when they announced its early stages and I'm so glad to have seen it actually come to fruition and be well received. Indie dev dream scenario tbh
This developer is fantastic. They made an amazing roguelite called Going Under that has the same feel as Another Crabs Treasure. They are quickly becoming my favorite dev.
As someone who has spent years studying marine biology and environmental sciences, this game is absolutely incredible in so many ways. Thank you Charlie for showing it to your audience
I told my friend a few months ago that they should make a game that looks like a kids' game, but is actually a soulslike, having no idea this game was coming out. It hit game pass, and I looked at it and thought, "This is a cute little game, not for me though." Then I saw Charlie go live with the title "Crab Souls" so I checked it out, and it's easily my favorite release of 2024 so far. I had a ton of fun playing it. The gameplay is fun, the game itself has a lot of charm to it. You can tell the devs had fun making it, which always makes a game more endearing. Fantastic game.
Just as Lies of P took Pinocchio and turned it into a fascinating and supreme Souls-like adventure, this game took adorable Pixar looking crabs and sea creatures and made into to an equally fascinating and cool looking Souls-like game.
All these souls games being made should just sponsor charlie to play the game early at this point because he actually enjoys and plays through the whole game
