there are 2 things about this game i remember jumping around the city and shooting car tiers on the highway to try and get them to crash into the water good times

Haha sounds like a blast! Thank you for sharing the memories.

it's even better when you turn on the Keys to the City mode. GTA games stopped letting you stand on cars while they drove around, but crackdown let you do it. And shooting out the tires of the car you are car surfing, or a friend is car surfing causes your agent to get launched into the air too

Two things I would mention. Firstly as anyone who beat the game knows, there is a twist with the narrator at the ending. Secondly, the order you kill enemies matter, or so says the narrator. Basically you're not just taking down random gang members, they all have a role. Take down this Lieutenant in charge of recruitment and when you take on the rest of the gang leaders in that region they will have less guys. Each gang has a kingpin which taking out their subordinates weakens. And if you take out the gang leader before wiping out all their lieutenants you can take them out after which makes them weaker too

Thank you for the comment! Yeah, I thought the ending was really cool, but I didn't want to spoil it at all. I know it's an old game, but still, I know some people who have never played this before and are checking out the video. I will say that the twist was a little daring and fun. Great point about taking out everyone weakens the support of the gangs, I do think that at least adds something to it all, but I felt like the impact could have been more apparent. At least in my playtime, the narrator would tell you getting kingpins would make getting the leader easier but I never it noticed to a large extent. Obviously, this could just be me though.

@@campxboxThis is one of my favorite games. Thank you for not spoling the ending. There are always people who haven't played or watched something. My biggest spoil for me was Avengers: End Game ending. I started watching those movies in order with my wife and I was furious when some site spoiled the ending. And there were no spoiler warning. I would never spoil anything from anyone. To me spoiling is just stupidity.

I think myself and many other people only bought this game because it was how you got to play the Halo 3 MP beta. Ended up not caring about Halo 3 and actually enjoyed this game.

i remember buying this game on a day where i had a massive class assignment to work on. i promised myself i would just play an hour and do my assignment afterwards. i definitely did not play just an hour lol. ended up getting only a couple hours of sleep to finish the assignment but i dont regret it, this game was a blast

You are spot on regarding the lack of story missions, but I enjoy the more sandbox style titles anyway so that was never a big problem for me. I like the emergent gameplay that comes from unscripted play, and always kind of approached it the same way I did Mercenaries. I would scout out and area from a nearby rooftop and decide upon a plan of attack, and then work my way in to the target. Crackdown doesn't pull this off quite as well, as things tend to devolve into chaos pretty quickly, but it's cool to be able to approach scenarios as you want to. From memory the different targets had sandbox effects that would change how many enemies spawn or how tough they are etc. That way you could decide which order to approach them. I also had the opportunity to play online co-op a few times in the 2010s and it was engaging but very poorly balanced. If you were far less agile than your hulk-jumping allies, you were forever trying to catch up. Chaotic good fun though you definitely needed to have chat going to organise anything.

Thank you for the comment! I can appreciate the open ended nature of the game. You are right though, tackling certain leaders will effect that area like getting rid of members, less guns, etc. Which is a cool aspect but I guess for me I didn’t see the effects of it to focus on it and I killed the leaders as they came up on my map. I do think that all in all I really like what Crackdown attempts and theres a lot of fun in the game, Im excited to hop into the sequel.

I remember so many people traded in their copies of Crackdown after the Halo 3 beta was closed. Not me, as it was pretty fucking addictive.

The most I've ever liked platforming games is getting the green orbs in this game lol. Highly addicting to grab a string of orbs, stop and look around, see more off in the distance and heading off to get those, too. But yeah, the orb collecting achievements are the only ones I don't have. This and the first Assassin's Creed with the flag collecting were big offenders lol. But this game is what set off my addiction to the open world/city x superpower games. Then we had Infamous on Sony, Prototype 1 & 2, then Saints Row IV. I tried SR3 but it felt like a poor GTA clone. But I gave SR4 a try because of the superpower thing, and wow was that game great. And I realized it's why I like the games like Spiderman 3 on 360 through the newer ones.

Saints Row 3->4 was smaller, and 4 to Gat out of Hell was smaller still, but Gat out of Hell had great movement options and made the vehicle modding features they added kind of useless

Crackdown 2 definitely feels like a downgrade, but a 1 step forward 2 steps back kind of downgrade. Replacing faction identity with all encompassing Mutants/Zombies was not good, even the graphics or engine doesn't seem as good in a couple ways, but the 1 Step forward aspects are things like moving agility orbs, moving vehicle orbs, advancing the orb hunting aspect for people who loved that about the first game.
@campxbox

I haven't played 2 recently and I need to give it a shot. I agree though I think the zombie aspect is interesting, but definitely tiring now since that gen and the one after were full of zombie games.

I disliked Crackdown 2. I liked Crackdown 3 even though it wasn't something that it was hyped. It was solid sequel to Crackdown 1 with some new stuff.

I remember solely buying this for the Halo 3 code, but was very surprised by the game, and music. I remember letting the demo play in the background whilst doing something else and hearing Barrier Break pound out of the TV for the first time... I refused to play the game until I found out the name of that track and had it downloaded on LimeWire.
