I’m replacing the fuels lines and tank skid plate on my 95 YJ and while the gas tank is out it is time to weld the rusted hole in the frame which is done now.. Thanks for the information, that gave me an Idea what I had to look forward to. I too had problems putting in new fuel lines.I try WD40 like you did without luck. But the trick I did was on my bench grinder I grind the outer coating of the fuel line to the webbing for about 3” and installed wheel bearing grease on the hose for 4” and that made it easy to pull in the lines through the rubber protection. Then cut off that 3” of hose you grind to good hose.

Thank you so much for the videos. Dropped my tank today and replaced the pump assembly, and all hoses. It's a long process, but it went very well, because of your videos. Many, many thanks!!!

“Oreillys “ you need 6’ 5/16 of fuel hose ? What color is your vehicle ?is it 4x4 ? Does it have high beams? The struggles , I miss the old times that used to be behind the counter , they couldn’t turn wrenches anymore but their knowledge was priceless, tips tricks recommendations.

First, thanks Dale! Had the same fuel leak issue on my 1994 YJ 2.5L. Replaced all per your videos (thanks Amazon), fuel pump, lines, filler & vent. Fuel Lines: factory had 5/16 size lines for both Supply and Return (bought 10ft of both 5/16 and 3/8, did not use 3/8). New and original fuel pump - had my doubts of fitting 5/16 lines, into the larger Supply metal 3/8 tube, but it did with a little grease. On the other end of the lines (under jeep) - both Supply and Return metal tubes are 5/16.

Im actually doing this same job tomorrow morning. Had a leaking fuel line as well so im changing the lines and fuel pump while the tank is down. The skid plate is pretty rotten so thats getting replaced at the same time. Got all the parts, just talking myself into starting the job. I put mine about 8" in the air kn jack stands for more working room and using my air tools vs cordless driver.

I busted a fuel line about 3 weeks ago on my YJ. Ended up replacing all of the lines and now she runs great!

Thanks for that! I did a similar job and wrestled with it much like you did. I'm glad to see it wasn't me, it was that my 1990 YJ just needed a determined DIY mechanic!

I always said the first thing when restoring is replace everything rubber.... guess that would stand to reason same with a lot of plastic parts too.

I enjoy your videos. don't like gear type clamps, because when the hose collapses down over time the clamp is now loose that's why I like using the factory style spring clamps for everything, water / fuel / vacuum

Loved this video! A squirrel chewed through my fuel hoses again. Last time it was by the fuel filter - easy! This time it was right by the grommet under the frame rail… ugh! Need to replace the hoses going to the tank just like in this video. Was hoping not to have to drop the tank… but alas.

Dale, I swear your YJ and my CJ are on the same maint schedule. I went hunting last weekend and when I got back home, I had a little gas puddle under the center of the gas tank. And again, the YJ and CJ look to be very similar. Thanks for another helpful video!

Every time I have an issue pop up on my '94, boom you just did a video on it. It's like magic. Has anyone tried loosening that body bolt to make it a bit easier to get the lines in?

I’m replacing my hoses right now. Took 5/16 off both sending and return, but I’m having a difficult time getting the 5/16 to slide onto the metal end on top of the tank. Even lubed it up pretty good. Any suggestions?

Those electric ratchets are wonderful, I've been using my Milwaukee since it came out. The rubber is wore off but still works, I've got a video on it.

Doing the same thing on YJ now as well. Actually started there. Long story short tank is off, some body mounts off, welding frame....and the list goes on.

5/16 for both the pump outlet looks 3/8 however the other end hooks to 5/16 up under frame so just use 5/16

I will say one thing Dale for a northern Jeep you don't have any rust to speak of just years of dust .... I would have detail brush going while I was under there .

Did you get a new gasket for the fuel pump? Also might want to check the grommet on the fuel vapor valve on both sides of the fuel pump at the top of tank. I'm assuming you didn't take out the old fuel pump yet. There may some broken gaskets floating around inside.

5/16” fuel line for supply and return?
@m.engelmann7237
@m.engelmann7237 3 года назад
I know you stated that the fuel supply and return were different sizes. But it appears you used 5/16" fuel hose for both. Is that correct?
@pandapropsncostumes
@pandapropsncostumes 2 года назад
Should be 3/8” for the feed line and 5/16” for the return
@jamesthompson7744
@jamesthompson7744 3 года назад
Do you remember what size and length fuel lines you used and were they 3/16 SAE 30r7 ? Hard to find that info for my 1995 YJ
@pandapropsncostumes
@pandapropsncostumes 2 года назад
Should be 3/8” For the feed and 5/16” for the return line. Get 3 feet of each. They should be rated SAE30R9 and be able to withstand ethanol and at least 100psi or higher. Jeepsolid is correct in saying that the fuel pressure is lower on these older Jeeps and yes, 30-40psi is lower than the burst rating of 50psi on the SAE30R6 or R7 lines, but those lines were not designed for modern ethanol gas, so the fear is that they harden and break down more easily.
@pandapropsncostumes
@pandapropsncostumes 2 года назад
Btw I only know this because I had to buy fuel lines 3 times before I discovered this information :)
