Just hope & pray they don't move to your neck of the woods and vote in the same type of politicians that has destroyed Portland. Which is usually what they do!
Eh, many cities don't have Walmarts in their city limits. They mostly exist in the suburbs, which is still true for Portland. As for Cracker Barrel, who really cares? That's not to say that Portland isn't a shithole that's becoming worse, of course.
I was in Portland 21 years ago for a meeting. Downtown was beautiful, with great restaurants and shops. There was a Parade, with men & women riding horses. People looked normal. Then I went there last summer. All I could do was shake my head and feel sad. That amazing park in the center of downtown, with the towering waterfalls? Shut off, and the park was full of scary people and trash. People avoided eye contact and no one looked happy. One-third of the businesses were closed. This next part is hard to qualify, but the place had a feeling of death.
I had the same experienc in Denver last year. It had been 20 years almost to the day since I had been in Denver proper and spent time there for a conference.. Same thing.
Absolutely. Add SF as well. The similarities really are astonishing. Detroit is still Ran by the same people that destroyed their city lmao. You get what you vote for.
If they did they'd be called racists institutions and have to deal with more fall than they deem is worth it. In 10 years when the liberal media catches up they'll admit it, by then crime ridden ciities will be the norm that everyone has adapted to.
This I know, San Francisco do not prosecute shoplifters if the amount is not over a thousand dollar... so "people" go in a store take whatever they want and leave without paying.... SF is a shithole now.
The problem is corporate Amerika doesnt want to pay for their own security and simply want to pass that cost on and socialize it with taxpayers paying for more police and prison cells. Then you can complain about how high your taxes are and never see you were the reason for it.

They try to blame the pandemic when the same restaurants are staying open everywhere else….so it’s obviously not the pandemic but something that has to do with that state and location. Walmart is doing the same….closing stores in certain locations when they are open everywhere else and even opening new stores in other states. Walgreens and other stores too. Seems like there’s a common denominator……wonder what it could be….
Yes, profits. Walmart doesn't exist for your happiness and to give away everything for free, like you seem to think they should. Businesses are in the business of selling merchandise or providing service for a profit. I witnessed a lot of restaurants go out of business during the pandemic, including ones that were around for over 50 years. Walmart closed a few stores in Georgia due to the constant theft. I have seen Orchard Supply hardware close newly built locations, liquidate all of the inventory and then reopen a year later.

It's fun to tune in every few days to see which company is leaving Portland now. Too bad none of these companies have the courage to actually tell why they are leaving. If you want to see the future of Portland, take a drive through Detroit. (Best do it at a high speed and keep your doors locked.)
I think if Cracker Barrel told the truth they would not lose a single customer. They'd probably gain quite a few. They market to the wholesome God loving normal Americans.
Remember liberal democrats are the party of death from before birth even though healthy to post birth until the state can take all your wealth you spent a lifetime to earn and you are left with nothing! Such is the socialist thinking from the left.

I don't see how this is a problem. Portland residents get the city and leadership they vote for. We can only assume this is what they want. I would never want to live there, but I am proud of Portland for voting for and creating the city of their dreams.
Why isn’t anyone putting it together that they are leaving Portland because people who live there, don’t eat the garbage Cracker Barrel sells? Seriously, they would fare way better in Florida , or Idaho, or any other state where people ain’t that cultured.
Cracker Barrel is subject to the double whammy of Dine and Dash as well as Shoplifting. The same criminals get to conduct two separate crimes in one location.
I believe there are several other reasons, somewhat related: It's getting more and more difficult to do business in "woke" areas due to senseless regulations, and also increasingly difficult to find anyone to do service work with any kind of work ethic... without also demanding wage equality with really skilled and productive workers.
@@spacerconrad Speaking of work ethic: My friend has a 20 year old son. I saw the son at a party and I offered him a job as a cable technician with pay of $40 an hour. Told him he will train for 3 weeks then start. Everything is paid for him including training. Job is pretty easy, you wont get that kind of money from a first job anywhere else... Then later the guy that trained this son for a day asked me "where did you find this guy? This guy just wants to be a manager and get paid just to exist. He wants to work 9-1pm only on days he wants, etc". Later I called the son myself trying to figure if maybe he didnt understand what the position entails. The son actually started to blame me and my company for being unprofessional. Like, he wanted me to apologize for my trainer not calling him back or something, and then for me to beg for him to come work for my company. I am like bro, I am trying to do YOU a favor, if you do not like something, you are more than welcome to not take the offer, I am not going to sit here and convince you of anything.
It's crazy to me. I'm in my 20s and moved away from Oregon. It's a completely different solar system compared to the environment I grew up in. Portland specifically is an absolute dumpster fire.
*I have come to the firm conclusion that the demise of Portland is much faster that the demise of Detroit.* The changes in Portland in the last 5 years has been dramatic.
I’ve been to some inner city Walmarts in other states that were in super bad areas. Can’t even imagine how horrible Portland is to close all the Walmarts and Cracker Barrel’s. They got what they voted for. Just a friendly reminder to Portlanders: When you choose to flee and relocate to another state, please leave your toxic voting habits behind.
they won't, the voted for paradise and it was the other political arty that ruined it all.... Just like voting for Bonds, seems like no underrates they are voting for higher taxes with bonds. Bonds are not free money. They are what a project costs plus extra interest on top of that. Which no one knows (and the government is going to tell you) how much they are paying for all the previous bonds that were voted for by their parents and even grand parents that aren't paid off yet.... Tennents need to be taught that when property taxes go up to pay for bonds, their rent goes up to cover that and then some to the next nice round number for rent rates..

My sibling went to Portland for a National Conference two weeks ago. They said it was so dangerous, they were told not to leave the hotel. We are a fairly Liberal family. Even we think Portland has gone way too far.
Let's play "Who's next in line to leave Portland?" I pick Lowe's, where employees just watch shoplifters leave the store with cartloads of expensive merchandise.
Lowe’s is a good bet, or any other hardware/home center like Home Depot or Menard’s, if they have those there. I think it will be Target though. I saw just recently that one of the stores in Portland has the highest loss for the entire country. And with Walmart gone, you know that shoplifting is going to increase at Target now.

So, once all the businesses are closed in Portland, were are the criminals going to move to so they can stay in business? I feel bad for the honest hard working people that are affected by this.
The mild coastal weather draws people to the left coast, and the wonderful social services let them set up encampments and abuse the drugs of their choice, sounds like a true utopia to me.
"Unable to overcome the impact the pandemic had on the business" Funny, but all the other CB locations managed to survive the pandemic just fine. It's almost as if there were other issues in Portland causing retailers to close their doors. Couldn't possibly be that the voters voted to turn their city into a third world country... Nah... Must be something else.
Whenever a business (Cracker Barrel or even Walmart) can't expect their staff or customers to be relatively safe, it's in their best interest to close and focus on the other locations. If you're in a highly populated city and don't have Walmart, Cracker Barrel, or a Chickfila chances are you too should leave.

So you expect citizens to pay for a private business' security? Why cant Walmart and these private, billion dollar corporations hire more security guards, or change the way they're doing business to prevent theft? Why should tax dollars be spent on that?
I've been to a Portland location each time I've been to town since they came there. It was ALWAYS busy there. But in recent years, the Portland area has started looking like a natural disaster or a nearby war has just happened and refugees are everywhere. the area is a cesspool with homeless people everywhere. THAT is why Cracker Barrel and other companies are leaving the region. Though I'll miss them badly, I can't blame them. The sad part is these locations were reasonably new!
If Portland operated like Texas they'd "solve" the homeless problem by handing out bus tickets. Which doesn't solve it at all, but irresponsibly moves it. How many of the Portland homeless are FROM Portland? You'll see more homeless in places that have better climates (which is why California has way more than population would indicate). Taking OWNERSHIP of the problem is something red states and many cities just won't do.
There was a time when I wanted to visit Portland and Seattle: that ship has sailed. So perplexing to see what these citizens are voting in for themselves. What is tragic is those citizens who are NOT voting that way yet are left with the results. Get out now, any way that you are able. WAKE UP.
Unfortunately, many people can’t just get a new job and move. My state has always been a purple state, but it’s slowly crept into blue (whether legitimately or by cheating). Portland, and particularly Seattle, used to be GREAT places to visit and for those who didn't mind the Marine climate, live. With regard to Cracker Barrel, it's a Lebanon TN based company (Nashville Metro) and while it's not a company that touts its politics, I suspect there are reasons why they are shutting down the Portland area locations that go beyond profitability. I may be wrong about that. Yes, a lot of senior citizens dine at the CB but so do many young families.
