Lollipop lady Chris Freeman investigates the problems caused by illegal parking outside schools. She reveals how the city council is introducing a CCTV enforcement car to try and crack down on the issue.
This is so stupid. I'm in my 40's now and this was a problem when i was 5 and the teachers were saying the same thing back then. That means this generation of parents should know better.
I went to primary school in the 1980s. I remember being the ONLY one being collected from school by car on occasion and everyone commented! The school had over 300 pupils. Everyone walked or came by bus, about 4 children came by taxi from a remote area. How times have changed!
install static cameras on the marked road so they get activated during the restricted hours...simple. no need to have someone driving a car around. they'll only miss someone as they drive off around the corner.
As I understood it, legislation was going to be introduced to ban parking or drop - offs within 300 meteres of school gates, to prevent car exhaust pollution from adversely affecting children's health..... Before I moved house 7 years ago, there was a primary school just down the road from me, and some of them would sit there waiting to pick up kids at 3.30pm for 10 minutes or more, with their engines running. People parking with 2 wheels on pavements are a real pain in the arse too. Make that a £200 fine offence asap.....
Why are you blocking the cars number plates in this video. Don't you know you can film these things in a public place? There is nothing the driver can do about it. Otherwise, good work people at WolverhamptonToday.
It's appalling. People park across the drives of people living close to school and when residents complain to the car owners, they are met with rude and expletive ridden replies, including threats. You can't arrange food deliveries as there's literally no parking spaces. An ambulance could not get through one day. Cars park on the zig zag lines. It's so dangerous. One day I was visiting and needed to take a baby to the A&E and a car was parked right across the drive and there was no apology. She wanted to watch her child from the gates. She just didn't want to move. I think that there needs to be a fire drill an hour before school ends and let's see what car owners do when faced with a fire engine trying to get into the school. Parents needing to pick up and drop off right by the gates are ridiculous. You do not need to be that close. This post is from 2012 and nothing has changed. There are many abusive parents who feel entitled to park where they want to, regardless of the consequences. Start issuing tickets.
why is it that these parents cant walk their children to school, i had to walk around a mile and half when i went to school all those years ago, no cars then, no parking problems, pity they cant use the clampers they would soon stop parking there if they knew there was a hefty penalty to pay
I have a similar problem here in Ettingshall, I am sure most of the parents could walk their kids to school.i live close to a school in a cul de sac and parents are parking in tenants car spaces.
Thank for posting. My child was almost run over on the pavement just next to the restrictions by a driver parking and manoeuvring on the pavement. Been sworn at a threatened by other parents after asking them to move so we can get on and off the pavements..better enforcement is needed and a change in the law is need to make it easier for the CPO'S police and councils to be able to jointly enforce restriction in the wider school area.
We don’t have ANY traffic wardens in our town BEXHILL-ON-SEA EAST SUSSEX and EVERYONE knows it ! So EVERYONE parks wherever they want, and just take a chance on the odd Police swoop, and pay the fine, saying ‘it’s worth it’ ! I’mdisabled, there are many disabled but they don’t care, and people who work in the town will just park in a disabled spot all day !!
Camera are now installed out side allmost all school in my area now , park on the schoolmarking u will get an instant £80 fine ... there are still some who think they only there for a minute .... dont worry ticket will come in the post , expensive minute lol ,
cherylann g that’s the answer, and it’s cheap and easy to install, the latest up to date cameras could be mounted on street lights, and they could catch every single offender, all fines should go into the schools/education budget. I know it’s difficult to find parking, and parents often are juggling work and childcare, but the children’s safety must come first.
film the offenders, send the video to the police who could make lots of money just by sitting in an office and viewing the video and sending out fines in the post. more than one offence by the same car on film the fine doubles each time
No warning to these drivers, instant fine£100.00 first offence then doubling on future bad parking. If they get caught and fined They will not do it again. NO SYMPATHY: Apart from the safety aspect how much of these cars fumes do these children have to breath?
sad but true there is no no provision for mobile CCTV cameras used by councils in smart cars. It therefore apears that unless they put up signs everywhere they go theses smart card breach The Data Protection Act requirement.
Never get in the way of people picking their children up from school. It` been a mad free for all for as long as i can remember. I have had a load of run in`s around schools. Most parents just don't care, if you in their way watch out. I even had one parent park their in my drive so they could pick their child up. I had the last laugh because i parked behind them and blocked them in and would not answer the door .... revenge is sweet eh.
Britain has school busses as well, just they normally run on bus stop routes and don't go round every single street. Helicopter parents also often prefer to ferry their precious kid right to the school door than send them off to the bus or drop them off further away from the school.
Oh this is such an easy problem to solve. Tickets won't matter, it become just another expense. Just hand out hammers to the kids, tell them if they see a car parked on the zig zags, go up to it and hammer away until the car moves.
the problem is still on going , i see the civil enforcement vehicle all the time it dont make a difference , to me the enforcement vehicle is just another reason to gather money rather than tackle the problem in a way they know will make a difference
yam yam dash cam The problem with that is enforcing it, there just isn't the resources. No matter what you do people will always be lazy and you'll always have the Tanya's of this world who would rather drive her self intitled arse 200yrds up the road in her financed up rangerover, putting everyone else out, just so she can get back before loose woman starts.
the road looks so clogged up theres no chance of a child getting hurt by a car , they can hardly move ...perfect traffic calming , leave them to their own and watch the traffic slow to almost zero MPH .. bring on grid lock. :-)
i think this is the most ridiculous idea yet! having a camera in the form of a CAR! that wont be able to even get down the road let alone film anyone thank you wolverhampton council for yet again coming up with a useless scheme!!!!!!!!!!
Were they were anything like my old headteacher who used to sit in front of the entire school and tell us stories of his time in World War 2. He was such a cool headteacher who took an interest in his students.
Only care about their own what they do. When they come to pick the kids up from school the park outside my driveway. So if you are a parent please park outside the singer don't listen to this. Nonsense
Yes but some of the kids might have to walk more than three streets away! Some parents will gladly spend time in a gym then rush to pick up their kids in a car, walk the kids home and give them exercise.
If I need a laugh I take my dog for a walk to the school at the end of my road. I then have a good laugh at the women dropping kids of while driving their husbands prick extension car. Hilarious...
And how would you suggest that is done - import a piece of spare land from somewhere?? Build a multi-storey in the playground??? What a totally dumb comment!
although i agree no one should park on zig zags as they do the same at my child's school but the answer is not fine fine shame get the council to fix the parking out i mean fk me we pay em enough for it. in tax on cars and tax on everything else, i mean cmon fine them if there child's late fine em if they park illegally to avoid being late you cant win
PATHETIC - You don't want to shoulder any responsibility, for keeping the children safe. "Get the council to fix the parking"??????? If there is nowhere to park - then WALK!!!!
@@childofthe60s100 WALK ??? its not like when your children were at school , you know when you stood at your door and watched as your kids walked to school , times have changed the gov has now flooded the country with pedo's and relaxed any punishment on rapiest, pedo's,child snatching......... so these days its not safe to do that. so brains of Britain how do you get to multiple schools miles apart while walking????? as for shouldering my responsibility i park a good distance from the school as once in the cue your stuck while cars pull up in the middle of the road to drop children off , creating cues of cars polluting the air that my children have to walk in. while undeveloped land near by has sat there since i was at the school ,which would make a good car park keeping the children safe. as for PATHETIC you mean like your reply ,are you the kind of person that drives down the road over pot holes and instead of blaming the council who you pay to fix them says i'm not shouldering my responsibility for the roads! lol what a bs reply from an idiot so uneducated
