Great video! I find that when casting resin in silicone moulds, the mould can be prepped with black spray paint as a release agent. This has the added benefit of bonding with the resin as it cures so the part comes out black. I would suppose other colours can be used as well.

Few months ago I saw a video on gelatin molds. basically... common cooking gelatin and some glycerine makes a decent mold making substrate. only drawback is requires "cold cure" acrylic resins, so can't use any of the high thermic resins. But for small bits, or recasting like a weapon or small item. Saves a ton of money over the rubber silicone mold products. Gelatin is fairly reusable. have done several molds/casts and just... remelt/repour the gelatin.

Thanks for the idea with the Lego bricks, the last time I made a 2 part mold with blue stuff I built one out of wood. That took me over an hour. Really appreciate the time saving tip.

To lower the chance on airbubbles you can pour out the silicon from way higher so that you get a super thin string of silicone.

Hi Gert, your molds and casts look perfect, well done. I've done this with many 'found objects' and use 2part resin to cast. The great thing is you can always cut the new parts up to vary their application. A Matchbox Toy hovercraft [casting top and bottom separately] has supplied me with many useful 'greeblies' as they are known amongst 'older' SFX modellers. I look forward to seeing you include these in future builds..

That blue stuff trick. Never would have come up with that.

The Lego thing is smart! I had seen this used for other things but not with Blue Stuff, great idea! One thing to keep in mind: Do not use the UV resin with Blue Stuff, when it cures it heats up quite a lot, and Blue Stuff deforms with heat, a bad combo. Better for the silicone molds only. Learned it the annoying way :p Great work with the bits BTW, will need to rewatch that part and shamelessly copy them :D

What an excellent result 👍👍 The UV resin is cool - I’ve not tried fasting yet - maybe this will inspire me to try.

I put a very light dusting of baby power on my moulds to reduce air bubbles as it breaks the tension barrier. Love this vid started gathering today to make some of these.

fyi use a vibrator or sander or jig saw to shake you table just lay it on the table hold it alittle so it does not wander off the table a few mins is enough to remove bubbles

do you get a lot more air bubbles in the blue stuff mold since you cannot tap them out like with silicone?

What’s the green stuff you use? Is it setting putty or plastercine

Have seen others using a vacuum chamber to put their molds in to do away with the air bubbles have you ever tried this method?

What uv resin are you using?

You write your own music? Am I reading that correctly?
