Kudos to whoever had the idea of uploading the BTS long videos on RU-vid. Everyone should see and appreciate the tremendous effort that goes into producing this show. I’m frequently amazed by the physical props and effects shown in these BTS videos, which I initially thought were CGI when watching the episodes.
Fabien Frankel said in an interview that all 'action horse' scenes were the most exhausting to film cause you sit there all day on the back of a barely moving horse in your full armor and have to pretend to be in full motion while every part of your body is stiff or hurts after a few hours 😄😄
It's such an interesting character beat. What happens if a guy who could threaten and bully his way through every problem all his life suddenly meets circumstances where he's faced with not being able to fight his problems away? 🤔
House of the Dragon sets and costumes are insane for scenes lasting only a few minutes. Some can only dream of having this kind of love and care for their shows. The fact that this only cost HBO about the same per episode as some SFX-heavy Disney+ series is a head scratcher. The difference in production value is night and day.
the rain gave corlys an extra grit to his character because it showed us that he was more hands-on than most other lords in terms of their actual day-to-day activities
The Harennhall scenes are the highlights of the episode for me. It was truly haunting, chilling and beautiful. Along with the layers that it brought to Daemon, it was also a joy to see Milly once again 😍
They have been doing this since day one. The episodes are all rounded up in a makeshift series called The House that Dragons Built. They've just started releasing those on RU-vid now.
The secret meeting between Rhaenyra and Alicent inside the Great Sept reminded me of the fictional meeting between Queens Elizabeth and Mary in _Mary Queen of Scots_ (2018). Historians agree that Elizabeth and Mary have never met in person, but the film made it convincing how it could have happened secretly and not been recorded in history. Much props to Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke for their performances in portraying the tragedy of Rhaenyra and Alicent's past friendship.
The Volume can be fine, If used Like in the Batman, but the real issue with the Volume is the limitations of your creativity. No tracking shots and blocking is much harder. That's why Volume shots often feel so confined
I think that production staff and studios for quite a while were a bit overwhelmed with what CGI can do and so they used it for everything. And only now that people got used to it a bit and the novelty has worn off are filmmakers realizing that the golden road is 'as much as needed, as little as possible' with CGI 🤗
Watching her enjoy filming on the buck was so enjoyable! In the past, on GOT, the actors didn't really like it, or so they indicated, but she had such a great attitude and her excitement was contagious. 😊
@@elcapitan8769 I don’t mean the sequence, I mean the action of actually riding a dragon. I can see Baela being in control here, using her reins convincingly. Everyone else sits on the saddle and we sort of buy that the dragon does as it commands. Ewan who plays Aemond, also does this very well. As I said in my original comment - “some” of the best riding acting we’ve seen.
These behind the scenes videos after each week's episode really make the experience of watching the show even more enjoyable. Seeing how much work and care goes into every single detail really makes one appreciate each detail in the final result, especially because we're getting to see the vision behind each episode specifically. It's kind of amazing how well they're doing at keeping out spoilers.
@@dr.johndoe1603 aegon II is also over 6ft tall in the book too... robert baratheon is close to 7ft tall and mark addy was like 5'10... its not a big deal
@@dr.johndoe1603 You can adjust the armor, that's something a king can easily request. There is no joke like in the lord of the Rings where Gimli asks for an adjusted chainmail that was a bit tight on the chest.
These Behind the Scenes are such a good idea, you can really admire and understand the process of creating this visual feast that we see in HoTD as well as the brilliant people and their work that otherwise wouldn't be featured or noticed, as well as its always delightful to have a cast with genuine friendship and showing their passion for the show and the story. Kudos to all of the team.
the harbor scene got 100 times better with that rain. you could try and pull with your greatest might, you'd never get Alicent anywhere near where Rhaenys was standing.
I want a full BTS Episode of Ramin Djawadi doing the score. It's soooo good. When Cole sees that dragon and the "remix" of Danys Theme with the aaaaaaaAAAAAAA starts playing (You know what I mean xD) or at the end in the sept with that choir bit. It was too good. Ramin is the Prince that was promised, he's not cooking, he's deep frying with that music
They need to fire this lady director, her scenes she’s filmed stand out and in the worst possible way, every scene she’s done has felt out of place and lazy
Each episode builds up so much tension and now, for sure, the next episode will begin the war from Rhaenyra's side officially. Baela scared the heck out of me
I know that the ending was quite divisive, but the work the entire crew has put into the show, to bring the book to life, is just phenomenal. Matt Smith, Tom Glynn-Carney and Bethany Antonia, as well was the rest of the cast are all very good actors, the costumes are great, that scene of the aftermath of the Battle of the Burning Mill was just astonishing, and the sets are just so real.
@@thenickfoxx There's a crowd (look at that one guy in these replies) who's not capable of appreciating things which were not adapted as they see fit. Last episode you had people complaining the child's death wasn't graphic enough, imagine.
@@mohnishgedam7952 LOL not showing war properly? Are you okay? Have you suffered a massive hit to your head? Jokes (kinda) aside, do you care to elaborate? In what way should they have conveyed the political side of a war set in medieval style fantasy?
Massive props to Geeta Patel and the DP, Catherine Goldschmidt. This was one of the most well shot episodes in the series. The scene with Rhaenyra and Mysaria w/ Seasmoke in the background was so beautiful visually. I want those wide shots made into a poster for my wall!
Genuinely sad that the blackwood lad in the first minute of the episode is actually dead, he seemed like a spaz 😂 I would have thought he had that staying power to him
The producers and crew are absolutely nuts. The level of attention to detail is absolutely exquisite. It's amazing to see this show rival the first four seasons of Game of Thrones. I hate waiting another week because of how amazing they are doing with this show.
I'm not sure if she's really a princess, because Daemon is only related by marriage through Rhaenyra. I think only the direct line is referred to as prince or princess. That is, the children of Rhaenyra. And Baela would only be queen if she had married. I don't think there is such a thing as an engaged crown princess. If she and Jace were to marry, she might be a princess.

@@NerdlaborRhea is deamons niece they are related by blood and Marriage
u are stupid...just read the book then u will know...what absolute nonsence they created in this episode....not showing war properly and showing illogocal scenes
This really reminds me of the lord of the rings and star wars behind the scenes, this stuff really connects you to the production and will be enjoyed by many for years to come, long may they continue
Legit thought they had filmed outside. To have it rain INSIDE THE SET is top notch craftsmanship. Harrenhal is testament to true craftsmanship of film and TV. Absolutely outstanding work. The best moments in the episode.
Criston Cole obsession is so cringe. I don't even like him but you people sound like Alicent want to hit him and then have sex with him or what? because all this hate is like to much. Menntal issues? and some are who harassing Fabien Frankel because of this character, some of these people are so delusional that they can’t tell the difference between fiction and non fiction. It’s so bad he had to mute his instagram because of it. Kudos to Fabien for the amazing job tho.
"Something Aegon The Conqueror would have from his time in Old Valyria" But he never went to Old Valyria. It was Aenar Targaryen who left for Dragonstone. Also if that is Valyrian steel, then is it not going to melt? It's literally at the beginning of Fire & Blood.
"an armor aegon the conqueror would've had in his time in valyria" excuse me wtf ? Aegon the conqueror DID NOT have a time in valyria he was born a century after the doom, trash ass writers.
13:18 Aegon the Conqueror was born on Dragonstone, about 70 years after the Doom of Valyria, maybe he meant his ancestors brought that Valyrian steel armour from Valyria as a family heirloom.
The thing about Aegon's armour is that if they go ahead with the Aegon the Conqueror series they'll have to use the same armour, or make it look the same at least.
That is why they have to make sure that its right coz retconning it in the future will be weird and Aegon the conqueror would probably wear it multiple times in the future series.
the only thing I really want to see is balerion the dread in a flash back with the other two dragons. I know vhagar is as big as Balerion right now, But I really want to see Balerion the black dread with Aegon the conqueror on him.
People were shitting so much on Aegon's armour when the photos were released, saying it was ill fitted and that Daemon's armour is better. But look how much work went into all those details.
Watching BTS are giving me so much respect for all the people doing their bests to give us the viewers the best shots for the shows just wow, imagine what they’re going through just to do and make sure those scenes in any kind of weather, I can’t believe, thank you for giving as such a wonderful show like this❤
Star wars and lucasfilm should take note. Cant beleive 180 mil for star wars Acolyte and GOT HOD is out here doing this with less budget. The Harrenhall scenes were epic.
All the praise for the set crafting and desing done for this show. Time has and will always tell that detail like the sort pays off in comparison with the corners the indurstry is cutting in other visual media nowadays.
13:18 did the showrunner mispoke here or did he really think Aegon the Conqueror lived in Old Valyria? I hope they respect the source material enough to have actually read it.
