What was the milky stuff you put on the steel? I'm assuming some kind of finish, but wouldn't it burn off the first time you used the torch? Or is there some kind of finish that would keep the steel from rusting, but stand up to the heat?

Lumber prices what they are, it pains me to see this torched o the ground.

Most of what we use is scrap that isn't good for anything else -- rotting, damaged, previously wet, etc. For a lot of the skin, we got lucky, as OSB dropped dramatically in price.

@@WesleyTreat I could have used well over 70% or more of what I saw there. Lumber doesn't have to be new to be used. And even some new lumber at lumber yards is wet. But that's just me, I am very frugal and always looking for ways to make ends meet. Presently my son and I are taking down a wood fence around a house that the owner no longer wants a fence. We will be using every stick of that lumber to repair our home and barn. I hope you don't think I am complaining. I am not. I was just making a statement that it only bothers me as bad as I need lumber right now. It was the club's lumber to do with as they saw fit and they had fun together. That in itself is a good thing. We all need to have fun instead of fighting amongst ourselves. Have a great day Wes.

@Johnny I understand what you're saying, but if you're familiar with my work, you know I make use of reclaimed wood, also. I know what's useful. We also got similar comments last year, even after explaining that most of the sheet goods were mildewed or smelled like goat pee. 🤷‍♂️ But we didn't waste it. We built something amazing that a lot of people enjoyed. There's loads of scrap wood always available for free on Craigslist. I'm not sure why using some of it for a celebration would be such a problem when so much just ends up in a landfill as it is.

No problem. I do recommend watching Craigslist for scrap wood. A lot of people give away stuff all the time. Offcuts accumulate in my shop at a rate faster than I can use them and I don't have the room to store them, so they have to go somewhere.
