My grandmother used to grow gourds and then make cute little birdhouses and batboxes with them. I always use to make small cup like things out the smaller ones as a kid. They're really great for storing all kinds of stuff.
That's cool. She made bird houses and you put hot sauce on birds..... But who doesn't love a good buffalo chicken? Right?. Gourds R KOOL ....... How's the bat with the hot sauce? Bet it's the bomb diggity
Just a minor tip, instead of using only a small handful of pebbles get quite a bunch of them in there and then do the rotation. It will work much better and faster. It's like a rock tumbler almost.
@@beanthefish Hi, I know your question is seven months old, but the answer is … only rarely did the native Americans eat gourds and only if they were very immature, so no, you don’t want to do this. They taste nasty.
I have been growing them for 10 years. Cut off the top and insert a wine cork. inside fig. great musical instrument. and a good gift. thanks for the video and yours there. Ukraine Kharkov.
Dude. You just made a whole kitchens worth of utensils! I made an awesome spear using a stick and some yucca leaves. I even managed to spear a little trout with it. Thats was a gooood day 😁
I like to wax the inside of any of them I'm using for liquid, but like you said, dry is the more utilitarian way. I like one beeswaxed and the rest dry. I also like to melt wax and rub it into the outside surface and polish it with a cloth, it seems to hold up much better over time. And all that chaff from inside the gourd makes incredible kindling.
Hi Donnie as a retired chef. I can envision what different cultures do. I can’t always see how to do it. You’re a great instructor ! Thanks for the video !
fantastic and fascinating as always, love the gourd-drum part xD Greetings from germany, keep going, you sir are the most inspiring person on the internet (for me, at least)!
I love the fact that at first you are teaching people on how to make a gourd bottle and the rest of the video is you pretty much playing with your gourd toys
I've been watching this dudes videos for awhile now but only on tik tok.. this is my first time watching a lengthy video of him doing what he does best. The man is a certified Badass. Every video I find myself paying attention like a dog and sometimes tilt my head like a dog cause some of this man's tactics are insane.. great video brother. Where do I find gourds in Texas.
@@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks Finally, you get the regonigtion you deserve man 💪 Much respect to you as well. Ps. get your family and friends out of this society because the planned economic collapse is happening right now, after that they will introduce martial law and most people won't be able to escape this worldwide slaughter.
Very cool. Ive seen these before for sale. In Carlos Castanedas book, A Separate Reality he talks about his mentor Don Juan Matus, a Yaqi Meso-american using gourds for water, and preserving his mushrooms. Dried of course, but yeah. Cool stuff.
I can't be the only one who thinks Donny Looks a bit Like Rick Grimes. I could see you thriving in TWD Universe with no trouble! Awesome video man, keep up the good work!!
Hey Donny! I love your content so much. I’ve always loved outdoors and I’m 22 and want to connect with nature once more like I would as a kid but I want to take it to the next level. If I wanted to live in the wild for a month far off the grid. What kind of place would you recommend to go??? I’ve learned so much from you I’m excited to do these things but I hope to speed up the process of finding a location by seeing the kind of spot you recommend!
👍👌👏 Simply fantastic! I absolutely love the shape of gourds. Unfortunately gourds don't grow/exist in Germany. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health.
I really never knew how versatile a simple gourd could be, it's just not something my mind really drifted to. But during the video it really got the creativity going, you could make small cups, Stew Bowls, Water bowls for dogs, so many things. On another topic, what do you use the Gourd meat for? The video got me curious about what uses it may have, so I wanted to ask if you personally used it for anything?
I imagine my first demand in the wild would be tinder and firestarter material. After that... I'm not really sure... Insulation or stuffing if I have a load of it. I can't imagine the meat would be used for much more than that especially if it's been broken up and turned to dust...
@@V-stur I kinda wonder if it can be boiled and used as a kind of "stomach filler" to reduce hunger in a true emergency. I'd imagine it's edible when boiled heavily? Doubt it gives much if any nutrition tho. It can also probably be used as a filler in pitch glue potentially.
Boy I'm not saying that I'm not grateful for my parent's efforts to raise me, but I do wish you were in my life, and I learn so much from you sir that I find myself ashamed to not know as you do. Much respect brother love your vids content and keep it up young man....
