Very interesting! I can see how these concepts could use different paint effects and moods. Maybe some spider webs with the miliput being stone colored. Maybe dark roots with wet effect for underground some malevolent or corrupted tree. I could see using the bases more vertically as well for doing growing plant vines with leaves for some equatorial jungle mood. Or flowers and leaves, taking the effect away from dungeon and more like queens garden.

Having seen your recent magnetic accessories series, I had this idea: What if instead of the sticks, you sandwich a piece of tin plate on the inside of each wall/floor tile allowing the accessories to be magnetized and freely placed anywhere. Obviously, this would be a much more tedious process compared to just sticks, but perhaps worth the effort for a cleaner look.
@RPArchiveOfficial
@RPArchiveOfficial 3 года назад
I'm actually working on magnetising the accessories system and have some working prototypes. Tin isn't strong enough a bond horizontally unfortunately, but I think I've found a way around it :) coming 'soon'...

@@RPArchiveOfficial Colour me intrigued. Also, I cannot wait until you eventually, hopefully, reach a point of sci-fi terrain. I play SW Miniatures from WotC, which happens to be the same size as DnD, as they are from the same company. Stuff that works for both is the best. Love your stuff.

What is the grass you're using at 6:39? I like the bright green color and what seem to be super tiny leaves, as well as being in lines instead of smaller tufts, too! I see in your "Equipment & Materials" (good looking and thorough page btw!), it shows a Citadel grass tufts, but they look much different than what is shown in the vid. Also, on "Links for Luke's base covers (Geek Gaming Scenics)" I'm having trouble finding them there too...but I am only searching America as well..
@RPArchiveOfficial
@RPArchiveOfficial 4 года назад
Fair :) I mention in the video but it is quick, they're from warpainter scenics, which I'm not sure if they deliver to the US but there are lots of good online suppliers in the US too, if not for exactly the same tufts :) And they don't actually come in lines, those are multiple tufts placed close to each other, which is pretty easy to do and let's you mix in occasional Bush or flower tufts like I did here :) gives you a lot of options...

I feel like a broken record, but once again another great video Matt. These are so simple to build but the effect/atmosphere they provide is immense. I love everything about your modular system, what it can do and could do. The sky would be the limit is suppose, or how much storage area you have. How do you store your pieces anyway?
@RPArchiveOfficial
@RPArchiveOfficial 4 года назад
Thanks as always man, it's always appreciated :) Currently, I use two of the modular frameworks from the wall and temple system, slotted into a shelf with the tiles stacked inside and on top. It works, but I've got a better homemade storage plan that I'll probably do a video on when I get a spare minute. Might be a while! 😅

These are great. I actually thought the large portion of moss you are making around the 11 minute mark looks good without any flocking. It makes me think of seaweed or clumps of decaying vines, moss, or similar vegetation.

Me: (thinking to myself) Man, I really love the modularity of this system. I might be able to find the time to craft some things that I will be able to use over and over again. But... They are missing the little touches that give individually crafted pieces character... Maybe that's still a good trade off though... Matt: Hi there. Today I'll be showing you how to craft modular accent pieces to add character to your modular builds (because I've read your mind sir)

New to channel and working my way through old videos. Do you still like the moss over a year later? IMO it was too much unnecessary work with the rope & hot glue & added too much bulk to it. Feel like card stock or paper towel or any fabric could have worked just as well. Great work just the same.
@RPArchiveOfficial
@RPArchiveOfficial 2 года назад
Yeah I regret my choices with this one. It was too bulky to look right, and a bit awkward. I could do it a LOT better now with the upgraded magnetic walls/accessories. And at some point, I probably will 😂
@Raycheetah

You're really showcasing the versatility of your modular accessories system! You could also make trellises (or ladders, come to think of it), window boxes, or even invasive vine and tree root systems like one sees in Cambodian temples like Angkor Wat (which would make for some great inspiration for even more builds). =^[.]^=

I like the hanging moss, I've just built a sorcerers tower for a movie I'm just wondering if I could use reindeer moss instead of the flock as I want it to have a hanging gardens of Babylon sort of feel on a building thats seen better days, I've yet to build some pillars on the winding staircase ( which goes on the outside of the building the whole thing looks as if the tower has been grown out of a mountain) so I could make the moss this way but to give it that wilder over grown look I could use coconut fibre too instead of twine.
@RPArchiveOfficial
@RPArchiveOfficial 4 года назад
Reindeer moss might work well for that :) I'd line it up before gluing though and check the scaling works Coconut fibre again sounds like a solid alternative, might be a bit harder to shape/keep in place, let me know how it goes!
@andytate5670
@andytate5670 4 года назад
@@RPArchiveOfficial will do, Although I realised I've got an old cushion here and its filled with polyfibre? could dye the dark green and run a moustache comb through it. I'll have a ply with these as I've got quite a bit of stuff i can mess about with to get several effects, the reindeer moss is two types ( in fact I'm not sure one is actually called reindeer moss but you can split it up for bases it makes lovely to scale ferns) I'm back at work tomorrow after having today off to spend with my son so I give it a go.
@RPArchiveOfficial
@RPArchiveOfficial 4 года назад
Let me know how it goes :)
@andytate5670
@andytate5670 4 года назад
@@RPArchiveOfficial it works! however there are a few small provisos, you need to get the very thin pound shop hanging basket coconut fibre liners. then coat them in glue let them dry hard ( they are still very bendy and pliable) water and glue is a bit of a problem as they are designed to let water run right through so thick glue both sides is best. glue one side let it dry then the other. then tacky glue the reindeer moss to it ( which is a bit fiddley but the end result is worth it. I used my dehumidifier to dry the pieces out quick.) now once glued on both sides you can paint them brown but I didn't bother because they are a natural brown any way. Then follow the above steps for modular or glue them straight to the piece ( which I've had to do as there will be stop motion monsters being animated around the build I thought it better to secure everything so a stray hand won't knock something loose) but yes it works fine. took a bit of experimentation to gauge how to get the best results from the materials used but I got there in the end. and I used the off cuts of coconut fibre to make some neat little gorse bushes too. I've got plenty left over for future use as well.
