Craftsman 29cc 4 Cycle Weed Wacker NO START STOPPED RUNNING! HOW TO FIX Replace Carb Carburetor 

I love the fact that what happened to you with this unit, is the same thing that will happen in my case. After replacing the carb the system still acted up. Then you removed the spark suppressor, and replaced the filter. Thanks for sharing, and this honest and true fix.

I have the same Weed wacker and had replace the carb as you did. I too had the same issue of pulling the trigger and had it bog down. I took the old carb apart cleaned and serviced it, put it back on the trimmer and throttle works perfectly.

When these bog down at full throttle it doesn't matter if your carb is adjustable or not. The problem is the metering valve inside under the diaphragm. The lever needs to be bent up to allow more gas into the main jet. Walbro sells a gauge that helps to set it at the correct height. You might find that it runs better with the choke partially closed because this gives a richer mixture. However to have it run properly either adjust the metering valve or replace the carb with a new one.

Look closely at the barrel section of the carb. On the throttle linkage side. Centerline is a brass section. In the hole of that brass section at the bottom is an expoxy plug that is a little difficult to remove but remove it and under that plug is the head of the jet. May be flat blade, splined, single d or double d style of tool needed to remove it or adjust it.

Use a flat head screwdriver to remove fuel lines instead of pliers..

Check your valves

Also I got a similar Craftsman 4 cycle trimmer but there's a crucial difference: my trimmer has the starting rope IN THE REAR and not at the front just like that one you worked in the video

Unfortunately, that engine was bogging own badly and still not running properly after all those changes. I'm surprised you called that a fix.

It's not getting enough gas when the throttle is pulled He needs to adjust the carb. and YES there is an adjusting screw for the high idle (Run) stage. I am working on the exact same model of weed eater. The screw he is turning is for idle only. Look at the throttle end of your carb. you will see a brass insert with a hole, at the bottom of the hole is the adjusting screw, ( needle valve ) you will need a special tool to turn it. Some have a (singleD) or an (Acircle) tool. You will also have to cut a slot in the housing to get the tool in straight.

If the carburetor is still good, another search option would be the fan,located at the rear end ( where the starting rope is) the star washer doesn't hold the fan as is supposed to be, an excellent idea would be to have a spring washer and replace the original washer

I have the same weed Wacker wouldn't start. It sounded funny. The crank case melted so I'm waiting for the warranty claim to be approved

All carbs have high and low adjustment,the one in directly down through the barrel type butterfly and the other is below near bottom of carb,you will have to remove factory plugs to get to them,they have a tool for this but if you don't have one use a small jeweler type screwdriver,heat the end of screwdriver and t it will melt to the plug and you can remove them

So the original carb on mine is a Walbro WYLB. It keeps bogging down under load. I thought it wasn't adjustable but turns out it is. I had to look at the adjusting screw real close with a magnifying glass. It takes a small D or micro D tool.

It’s an MTD. Made To Destruct. Honda makes a good 4 stroke but heavy. If I lived in suburbia I would just buy battery but I have 2 acres . I have great luck with a 2 cycle Echo. I’m only on my 2nd one in 25 years.

When removing the diaphragm cover a spring falls out that is not in 2 stroke carbs. I can't figure where it goes after pulling 2 of these apart and they both fell out. Two machines broke identically, one old, one new. Cant find the blow up of this carb.

I know this is several years old now but is there a gasket or diaphragm that goes on the back of the carburetor where it attaches to the engine part??

Awesome vid. I have a 4 cycle similar and changed the carb and turns on and stays on beautifully. As soon as i give it gas, it bogs, i did all u did, what do u suggest its driving me crazy. I dont see anywhere to adjust like a 2 cycle.

I have a 31 cc 4cycle. I cant find how to adjust oil gas mix. Oil is covering the air filter. Its obviously getting too much oil. How do I fix this? Ty for your shows.

You need to adjust the air mixture to stop the bogging problem

I just did this but mine will only run on full choke as soon as I open the choke it dies. I’m about to pull out my hair.

The idle speed sounds way high.

The spark arrestor you just removed is very important; it keeps the sparks from going outside the engine and falling into dry grass and thus,creating a fire Hazzard; you could get liable for that...

I couldn't help notice that Craftsman trimmer is strongly similar to Troy bilt trimmers...

Hey there, I have the same model that I just fired up for the first time this season. (Inherited in a rental agreement, first time using) it’s definitely not running at full capacity and has a tendency to bog down and shut off. Are the carbs cleanable or am I better off just replacing it?

you mention going battery, but is there a comparable battery tool that can take multiple attachments like these gas tools, and have the same amount of power to run them? I use this tool as much or MORE for all the attachments, like pole saw, large hedge trimmer, edger, and other tools. I have yet to find a battery tool that can take all those attachments, and has the same amount of power as this!!! i HATE having to have 10 completely different tools to store to replace this gas tool, and batteries never last very long!!!! Batteries tend to not have good life unless kep ACTIVE, but when they sit for 6 months or more over the winter season, they die every couple years!!!!!! Expensive as SHIT to replace them, and even if you have a couple batteries, they never seem to last quite as long as I need them while doing a job, so i have to quit RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE and wait for them to recharge. Very frustrating!!! I hate how these gas trimmers can be finicky to start sometimes, and a headache to figure out why likein this case, but over all, the ability to never have to worry about battery dying in middle of job, having enough power when using certain tools like saws and hedge trimmers etc, I would still take a gas tool over battery.

I'm having starting problems with mine also. Leaks gas out carb, wont stay running and smokes like crazy. It only a year old. Very frustrating.

This vid really made me laugh! Thank you. I have TWO ******* Troy Bilts (I bought #2, used, for spare parts) - they’re horrible little animals is all I can say. But… they’re cheap, amazingly powerful (when they work) and…hmmm…did I mention they’re cheap? My other gas powered tools are made by Stihl, Husqvarna and Echo/Shindaiwa, all 2-strokes, and all are incredibly reliable, but pricey machines. “Bad engines are good teachers”. Shockingly cheap MTD has been a terrific teacher…I just marvel at how many damned screws MTD put on these things. That, and just how “sensitive” these little four strokes are. This vid confirmed it for me…do ONE thing wrong and it’s game over. But, usually, just as easy to fix - you inspired me to turf out the spark arrestor - had no idea how troublesome they can be. Thanks again mate, much appreciated from Down Under.

Same Craftsman Weedwacker/line trimmer 4 cyl 29cc. Well, I went through the process: Fresh fuel, change spark plug-gapped properly and checked for compression/spark: OK; change to new carb (with new primer bulb), new gas tank, and tubes (correct assignment - bulb to tank and other to new filter at the tank bottom with no kinks in the installation or leaks), fresh oil, cleaned spark arrester. It starts a bit slow when cold but starts. The issue is when the throttle trigger is depressed, it starts to kill. After a long warmup and continuous depressing, the trigger, it finally stays on but still has a bit of hesitation at times. The next time I used, it - the same problem. Any great ideas of what's wrong?

I replaced the carb on mine and it started right up but soon as i let go of the throttle it dies out or dies out when I go from 2 to 3 lever thing for air intake or whatever it is. Anyone have an idea whats wrong?
