I've been having issues with the blade not turning off when I try to turn it off. Today I decided to pull the deck off the mower to clean it when I discovered the problem. Thanks For Watching!

Thanks Man. Makes perfect sense. Going to file down the backside of the notch so it doesn't stick. Wouldn't effect anything. No point in replacing a large part like that.

Thanks. Good video and exactly what I was looking for. I had the same symptom on a similar model Craftsman mower. I'd planned to drop the mower deck to check it out, and this video may save me time finding the problem. As to fixing it, my temptation would be to weld on some tough steel to supplement what's there. Whether that would work depends upon clearances, and I won't know that till I drop the deck. If not, then filing away the notch might be the quick fix. But I'm inclined to add tough steel. (I find that scrapped bed frames are very tough -- impossible to drill with normal bits and have to be abrasive-cut.) Possibly I could cut out the worn area of the deck and weld in a piece, but I'm not that hot a welder so would prefer just to add steel to what's there. If I find a good solution, I'll try to remember to post it here.

I have 40 in Murray order with the same issue. It’s pulled by a spring, not a cable. Gotta get it apart and fix it. I bey there is divot worn in that plate. Thanks.

I replaced the bushing washer and cleaned all the rubber, grass and other unidentifiable material from the pivot bracket and resurfaced all the parts. After a good days work it works well. Engages & Disengages as it should. Plus i poured oil down the plastic cable housing. That seemed to help as well

Even though I bought the part I've been too busy/lazy to install it. I put some grease on the warn area and it has worked well enough for this season. I really need to find some motivation and get some projects out the way.

Use a grinder or file and grind the edge down to remove the indented area. No need to replace the part

How did you fix it .

You can grind that plate so there is no not h there anymore and it should fix the problem.

Good info. I cant think of a reason that wouldn't work. At the time I made the video I just put some grease there and it has released reliably since then so I haven't bothered replacing the part. A person could make these parts last far longer just by smearing some grease on the sliding parts.

Clayton78 The only problem is that grease will soon get contaminated with a lot of dirt and grass clipping and might make it worse.

That is a definite possibility. I have the part I'll install it when it starts acting up again.

Have to take it off , clean it, and file it down so it slides easily.

Replace the worn part that I pointed out in the video. I haven't fixed mine yet so no video.

find someone with a Sandblaster and take all that dirt and paint off the areas you know are causing the problem. Pressure washer and or all the pb blaster you can spray will NOT FIX YOUR PROBLEM.

You can just bend that part of the brake arm up slightly so that the roller under the arm, lines back up with the edge of that plate that’s it’s rubbing on.
