On my utility lawn tractor that I've been using to pull my trailer and plug aerator, I decided to do what ive thought about doing for a while. I always wanted to do a mud mower puller swap and found the perfect pulley from a Kees Yazoo commercial walk behind lawn mower deck spindle pulley. This pulley is cast iron with a keyway and a perfect 1" shaft fit to the crankshaft.
I had to find a new longer belt to accommodate the larger diameter pulley. After it was swapped out, I couldnt start the engine because it's been sitting all winter long and the fuel appeared frozen. At the same time I have a shortage of tractor batteries and had to continually charge the dead one on the tractor. The engine has gasket leaks in the sump and the rear access plate as well as the crankshaft seal. I may have to remove the engine and replace all the gaskets which is a ton of work. But, first things first, we have to start this engine and make sure it always starts.

Henry. Ditch the Hydrostatic and pulley swap the Murray. That model Murray makes one hell of a mud/utility mower. That’s what I built mine out of. Put a 5” on the front and a 5” on the rear and it will run approximately 20-25 MPH and still pull good to use for a utility’s trailer around the house. I use mine daily around my home place. Strip off the deck and all the unnecessary junk, yank out the ignition and put in a push button start and wire ya a kill switch from an old deck safety switch (let me know and I can walk ya through making it) and your set. They are a lot of fun too.

Thanks mike, the only reason I did the pulley swap on the LT1000 was because it didn’t have a deck! The Murray is a fully functioning tractor. I’m a flipper first, fun second. I sold the craftsman a few days ago. I’m getting more tractors, maybe I’ll consider another mud mower project. Thx bro, hope you subscribed

AWESOME Video! Thank You So Very Much for making this video! a friend just gave me a craftsman LT 1000. i was wondering how to do a pulley swap on it for my speed. and i your video just came up on my you tube home page. this is Realy Awesome!!! that cloudy gas has water in it. i had that problem with the gas in a older ride on mower. i had to drain all of the gas in the tank, gas line, and i even had to clean the whole carburetor. then put new clean gas in the mower and it started right up.i Love watching your videos!

You can unlock a hydro trans, there's a lever at the back of the tractor that you pull to freewheel the tractor just like netural in a standard trans.

My lt 1000 is pulley swapped but it's a 17hp 6 speed, I've got the stock pulley up front and a 2.5inch pulley in the rear, I'll be getting a gas pedal setup on it soon.

Those spacers are bushings.. i tend to put the mtd tires on craftsman rims...little more work but its proper.For this mower it works...but something you're selling i wouldn't take that method.

What is the part number, name, size, description or anything information for the bolt that connects the pulley to the crankshaft to help me order a new bolt. My fell off while riding. Not sure by looking at the parts manual which part it is. Thanks.

Look I hate leaving comments like this but it's because you're not supposed to keep cranking on it like that if it doesn't want to start that's how you drain your battery just squirt some carpet cleaner in it or whatever and don't crank on it so long next time and you will have to deal with this

It has a fuel pump which you need to crank to get fuel into the carb. It hasn’t run all winter and you need fuel to get to the carb. The only way is to crank and get the fuel pump to pulse the fuel into the bowl. As you saw I did spray to get it started. But I’m sure you knew that already!

Don't hold me to it with my bad eyes and memory but I was at Harbor freight and thought I saw inner tubes for the front tires of these tractors for less than $5. They were near the casters and other tires/wheels. Wonder if they got mower Batteries?

Yes I have one but they made two different kinds, one is narrow with screw holes and the other only has 2 points for nuts

Gotta have the clutch pulley other wise you wont be able to start the engine. I worked on one before and the kid welded the pulley with the belt already on it and it was so tight the starter wouldnt turn over the engine and fried the starter

@@MowersNBlowers what I ended up doing is smaller clutch pulley it could be different the one I was working on was a Husqvarna but I has a Craftsman 6 speed and I put a 9 inch on the front and the clutch pulley got in the way

@@MowersNBlowersnot to fast belt slipped really bad and the engine was running funky and when raced it I burnt the belt and went back to stock front pulley. I would do a 5 and 3 that's what I'm running now
