Purchased this to replace a guide pulley ru-vid.comUgkxO9seYZjlnuP5UvMkb7osQW3WxPVeSnPk on our John Deere x304 snowblower. As I stated in the title, it is just about perfect. The stock pulley has a spacer at the bottom. I used four washers to emulate said spacer, and it works perfectly now. Great product, and great price especially if compared to typical JD prices.
Im currently building my second mower. 26 hp kohler vtwin. 8-2 pulley swap 8front 2 rear.. 18in tall rear tires. Ive been doing the mower thing for a while with my late friend. He passed new years morning so im solo riding. His mower he ran has seen 75+ mph. It has 25 hp kohler with a 9-2 swap spicer 5 speed. It weighed 610 with him on it. A freakin steam roller!
Chris Cannon this was my first pulley swap, I liked the results. Thanks for watching and especially for the comment. I feel like youtube has been a full tome job lately, I love that.
+yamahondazuki95 Thanks for watching and especially for subbing! Feel free to watch them all, they are not as good as the rest... I like your name, do you love motorcycles, four wheelers, boat motors or all three?
Not trying to complain but u didn't show how u got the old pulley off... I would love to know how u got the old pulley off so easily while it was still in the mower..
I think it is a 3.5 in the back and stock in the front, but would have to double check. Yours will be a lot faster than mine if you do. Thanks for watching!!
Hey Chad I’m buying a pulley tomorrow right now I have a 9 inch I’m thinking of going down or four-inch because I’m afraid of it slipping when I push snow even though I could still use first gear but or second gear Do you think going from a 9 inch To a four-inch probably do you think I’ll be OK
I went from a 9 inch to a 3 inch and mine does great in first and second even when wet. I think you will be fine with a 4 inch. Next time I want to get a bigger front, maybe a 5 inch, and maybe a 4 in the back instead of the 3... Thanks and good luck.
@@chud327 what kind motor u have on it buddy make a mother video of u ridding I'm bout to get me a old mower and make me a nother video hope it be good like you're we we get together and right some time when I get mine I'm bout get mine this weekend BC I never had a old of one are one that brakes on me
Yeah I want to do the same thing one to one ratio so when I’m in fifth gear I have a little speed in first gear I can still plow am up here in New York
Mine does 23 mph wide open in 5th, but in first it still has plenty of power... I have a bunch of videos of in and a bunch of modifications since the pulley swap video. In fact, I put out a video of the same mower this morning. I would love to hear what you think of it now. Thanks for the comments.
hey @chud327. i want to my own pulley swap on an ole cenex tractor i have. i just wanted to know where you get your replacement pulleys from? thanks! Hudson W.
Hey, I'm super new to pulley swapping and stuff, I was hoping you'd be able to help me a little, I have an old craftsman and wanted to use it as kind of a tractor, but also want it to be a bit faster but still retain some torque, my goal is a like an extra 5-10 mph top speed, I was wondering if you have any pulley size recommendations, one to make your job a little harder... I don't want to have to mod the clutch and idler pullies, again I'm super new to this and wanted some guidance
You can change the front to bigger. Example 3 inch to 6 inch would double your speed. I kinda like to use a 5 inch in the rear instead of the 9 inch, that almost double speed too. The 3.5 inch I used in this video is good unless it gets wet, then it might slip. Good luck and thanks for watching.
@@chud327 alright! Wow thanks a ton! If I got with those pulley sizes you're recommending do you know if I'd have to modify the clutch pulley and idler pullies?
my racing mowers transmission pulley came off with no problems almost every time you go to swap a pulley you have to beat the crap out of the pulley to get it off
I have done so many, I don't remember on that one, it didn't say in the video? I try to include it in all my newer videos, thanks so much for watching.
The paddle tires work great! It is fun to do something easy and free and have such great results. I love hearing you subbed, I hope I won't let you down. Thanks for watching.
Hey brother just came across your videos... I like your style. New sub by the way. I’ve got a quick question.. I’ve got a John Deere d110 with 22hp on it and I think the hydrostatic is bad. Am I still able to turn it into a racer or I have to get a different rear axle? Thx in advance
I love this shows mevshotvall the time does lowing its small wheels make ir for more speed and what ms a good pullet for the front and the back for speed
you got 1-1 ratio. put a bigger pulley in the front and you'll get even more speed. I'm building one now. going to have a 6.75" w/1" bore in the front. 2"w5/8" bore in the back.
most of the transaxles do mount the same, heck many of the mowers are made by the same company. If the axle happens to be different you could probably adapt it to work. thanks for watching and good luck.
I went about three times faster... Thanks so much for the comment and for watching. BTW, I will probably be doing another pulley swap on a different mower real soon. Thanks so much for the comment and for watching.
+Justus Beauchamp I found mine at tractor supply. It was about $15, if I remember correctly. Make sure you get a steel one. If you don't have a tractor supply near by, look them up online. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.
the mower deck pulley is NOT that much bigger than the orignial pulley INSIDE the pulley. 2" original pulley drive and 4" blade drive? IF U MEASURE THE INSIDE OF THE PULLEY? yes 2x bigger, a little faster. racing mowers have 8" pulleys to 6" transaxle pulleys... and HIGH HIGH HP engines and can do 60 mph... but they are mostly a racing GO KART with amower body on it. but ... get the 1" weld on thing and 8" weld on pulley... 9" weld on pulley... but that might be TOOOOOO FAST for off road. will have to adjust the back pulley size to slow it down some... start with 6" pulley in back and add OIL gear oil/motor oil to the transaxle as it will get HOT HOT HOT with that bentonite YUK grease in it... prolly wont last forever going that fast. some say the reverse chain doesnt last, explodes, and parts get into the transaxle and really make a mess out of the rest of the transaxle... ruin it. to... the PEERLESS 700 belt to chain drive transmission... a lot of work to get that in there and then solid 1" or 1.25 chromemoly solid... or hollow axle shaft with sprocket and disc brake as the original disc brake is made as a parking brake as dont neeed a brake when going 4.4 mph, kick clutch out, it stops in 4 feet.
to prevent belt slippage, it's best to put a bugger pulley on the front as well as a slightly smaller on the rear... I prefer 5 inch front, 6 inch rear
That pulley has never slipped until today. I made paddle tires out of my turf tires and sure enough, there was some slippage. I will keep you 5" and 6" pulleys in mind for next time. Thanks for watching and commenting, I hope to hear from you again.
With the governor still hooked up, it will do a grand total of 13 mph. It would probably do 15ish unhooked. I want to do a pulley swap up front and see what happens, stay tuned... Thanks for watching.
I know this is a old video but what’s the trans input shaft diameter also I’m afraid of belt slippage but I’m putting a 5 on the front as of now and have the stock rear
I have the 8in original pulley on the trans axle because it has a very crappy pulley shaft it's a 1/2in but I put a 9in on the engine so I can speed it up khow ready to replace the whole trans axle to a new one it's a 5 speed and put the new 5 speed in but not sure if I should change the pulley on the rear of the new one. the trans axle one the off road mower is worn out and grinding the gears inside I think one or two are mostly gone
The back is where most people start. What ever pulley you have, if you make it smaller, the mower will be faster. I went from a 9" to a 3.5". You can also make the front bigger and you will get more speed. That will be my next step, if I want more speed. I don't know specifically what size pulleys you have or what you should get, it will be something you have to experiment with. Or maybe some one else know more about John Deere L11's than me. Good luck and thanks for the question.
That thing is patiently waiting and is way back on the back burner. That is probably my favorite car in history. Thanks for watching and for the question.
i recently got a free Murray riding mower im turning it into a racing mower the guy who gave it to me said it was like a mid 80,s Murray it has no engine but i might find one at the junkyard
the project will be started soon i am going to clean up the mower and remove the parts i dont need i was thinking about using a Briggs 8hp Flathead if i can find one
does your lawn mower have to have a gas pedel for the pully swap to make any changes to the speed cause i got a 6 speed ride on i was gonna do a rear pully swap
You do not have to have a gas petal to do a pulley swap. (or vice versa) You might get a little more speed with the petal / governor deleted. Swap pulley and later do a gas petal. Thanks for watching.
Steve Sam I know, I know, and I'll probably never her the end of it. Maybe that will be a future video topic. I got three or four that need locking. Thanks for watching and especially of commenting.
I don't remember exactly. I took a string and wrapped it around to get an approximate length. If you like, I can go look and see if I can see a size on it for you.
Its fine bro.im having a belt issue on my craftsman 2 11hp.too much slack.then i bought a 2 inch smaller belt and i guess it weas too short.i might get an 87 inch.i had the 86 inch.the 88 inch is not catching the gears idk.or tensioning to get the transaxle pulley to turn
@@intotheadventure2592 ur right, it will grip, but it would have to be really tight, and at that point since its so tight anything over half throttle would prob snap it
I have the same problem with my troy bilt and yard machines mowers. I bet we could order something online, but I haven' t looked into it. That or we would have to change rear ends... Good luck and thanks for watching.
i estimate and take it back a few times... Lately I have been just taking the mower to the store and try them on before I buy. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.
