We check out a Craftsman M210 lawn mower with Broggs and Stratton 140cc engine.
The oil filter is soaked with oil which sometimes can be a symptom of the mower being tipped with the air filter down instead of the dipstick down.
That is not the case here as we quickly find out and the reed valve for the breather will need replaced.
We show the full repair process to get your mower back up and running and stop it from smoking or dripping oil out the intake.

Best vid I've seen showing how to do this. I appreciate you making clear all the parts you used as well as the each size of tool that was used. I've got a lawn mower with that exact issue. Called around to get some quotes and was told it was $85/hr for labor ($45 to do a diagnosis that would be rolled into the overall repair if I got it done there) + parts. Potential cost would've been close to half of what I paid for the mower. With your vid, I'm confident I could at least tackle it myself and then utilize the repair shop if I needed to.

Briggs & Stratton just never can leave well enough alone !!! All the gimmicky changes since 1980. Nobody has reinvented the carburetor so many times lol

Can't keep making an engine that everyone has parts sitting around for so they can use those or the aftermarket that knocked them off. Make a new one and it takes the aftermarket companies a while to start making parts

No torque wrench on those tiny bolts. You are brave. Putting the dipstick tube back in the engine will keep garbage out of the oil, particularly if you're blowing trash off of the engine. Briggs engines without an oil filter, needs as much help keeping the oil clean as they can get.

None of the bolts installed need a torque wrench unless you want to torque down the reed bolt to spec, which is unnecessary. Keeping garbage out is easy if you take precautions or blow debris out in a safe direction away from an open engine. Thanks for watching!

I've changed my reed valve already, and it's still leaking oil out of the breather tube. Any ideas? Mower is only a couple of years old.

If oil level and weight are correct it has to be a partially sheared flywheel key or worn piston/cylinder

Is it coming from the front valve cover then? The oil level is not too high?

@@IndRepair The oil is wetting the oil filter from the bottom portion and not the top of the oil filter. I did add engine oil at the time I replaced the breather reed. I need to check the oil levels again. Though it leaks oil I've mowed the lawn a few times but sometimes the engine sounds weak. I adjusted the valves before installing the breather reed and it made it way better at the time.

I don't see it often but sometimes a valve not seating properly will pressurize the crankcase and cause this issue. The oil level is correct?

Is there a difference between the carburetor for the M210 and the M110 carburetor as one has a primer bulb (the M210) and the other one does not. What is the difference? Thanks.

The controls on the carburetor are slightly different. One has a choke and springs but the primer version does not

Could be a partially sheared flywheel key, stuck valve or the issue shown here. Sometimes things present differently depending on the situation/mower
