Eazy Peezy, these sketches always remind me of my younger brother who is no longer with us. He was just 37. We used to watch Bo Selecta together, great times.
2:16 *Tom Davis* from many of *Leigh Francis'* shows. 3:30 *Anthony Costa* from the boyband *Blue.* Has appeared on *Celebrity Juice* (2008-2022) just like most celebrities of the 00, 10s and 20s. 5:05 *Leigh Francis* aka *Keith Lemon* always calls them the *Pussyjuice Girls* whenever someone like *Nicole Scherzinger, Kimberly Wyatt* or *Ashley Roberts* appears on his shows. It was mainly *Ashley Roberts* however, as she was also a star of *Keith Lemon's Back T'Future Tribute* (2015), *Through the Keyhole* (2015), *The Keith Lemon Sketch Show* (2015-2016), *Keith Lemon: Coming in America* (2018), *The Real Dirty Dancing* (2022), along with appearing in at least 14 episodes of *Celebrity Juice* (2008-2022), among other things they've done together. 5:21 Leigh's Black mate *Tom Stewart* aka *Tom/Tommy Nice* plays *Kanye West* on *The Keith Lemon Sketch Show* (2015-2016). *Tom* also appears in Leigh's other shows, just like *Tom Davis* and *Ashley Roberts* among others, yet he's never been credited on-screen as far as I know. He also appears on *Leigh Francis'* RU-vid channel, where they did a 6 episode podcast, and one or two other things together.
Easy, Peezy. The bird is a reference to the movie Kes, about a working-class boy and a Kestrel he names "Kes". It's one of Karl Pilkington's favourite films, he talks about it a lot. Would definitely enjoy more Bo Selecta from you. If you can push through the countless references that you're gonna miss, there is plenty of stuff in it that doesn't need you to be a middle aged Brit to get it too.
Another UK show from the same era that I think you'll enjoy is "FoneJacker" a prank call show, where, similar to Bo'Selecta, one man plays many characters, but this time instead of pranking celebs he pranks the public with ridiculous calls. Still has me in tears when I watch it today! Best off checking out a whole episode as the youtube clips concentrate on one character at a time, better to get a mix 1st time round ;)
Best thing Craig Daaaaavid could have done was play into it, and enjoy the relevance the show gave him. The worst thing Leigh Francis could have done was apologise for this show, and pander to all the stuck up snowflakes.
For me the saddest part of the apology was that those demanding it had no real understanding of his work or who he was. It was ideological driven. The accusations truly bothered him (I dont think they were founded but hey whatever). When DVD's were a thing, you could listen to Leigh's commentary and see the behind the scene stuff, and nobody had a problem with it. (Even Craig David did see the funny side for a time) Leigh is a seriously nice guy, polite and shy. He has a genuine love for the people he is parodying, and the joke is meant to be how bad and unlike them these impressions are as much as it is about the masks and scenarios. As far as I know, he also designed and builds a lot of the props and costumes himself. A very talented and humble man IRL. (His apology ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J3HQWEuNGNM.htmlsi=uwKrR6xyI4i5_xDG)
Jay there's a sketch of Craig david trying to crack America.funny bit in the swimming pool. Lee Francis real name, avid Merrion is a character, Keith lemon is a character. His other face masked are characters..
I think Craig David was at the height of his popularity when this show came out in 2002. The title "Bo Selecta" was taken from a lyric from Craig's incredibly popular (at the time) 1999 song "Rewind". I think the fact that the show was named from this lyric, made it instantly recognizable as a pisstake of Craig's song, and it really affected the "Cool Factor" that Craig had been building up until then. I heard that folks used to turn up at his concerts, and heckle him with quotes from the show. Us Brits can be pretty brutal with sarcasm. I can understand that he was upset by it, especially considering he would have only been about 21 at the time "Bo Selecta" came out.
Absolutely! I lost all respect for Leigh Francis for issuing some arse-licking apology for no reason. The over the top impressions of Mel B, Michael Jackson, Trisha and Craig David were no different from the equally OTT impressions of white stars. There was never any racial slant to any of the sketches involving those character's.... so what the fuck was he apologising for?
It was Craig David’s lack of a sense of humour that ruined his career, Lee Francis was probably a fan and meant no harm, I think I recall him once saying that he was shocked to discover that Craig did not share the joke.
Craig should have just joined in, maybe done a joke duet with him. The fact he took it soooo seriously and was so pissed off about it just showed how full of himself he is and made it even funnier
hi, in France we have a historical figure who surpasses all others. He is our pride, our national hero. A certain Mark Twain😉 wrote that he is the most extraordinary human being that our planet has ever known. Please can you react "Joan of Arc, savior of kingdom of France" of thecajun cutthroat channel and you will understand what it means to "be proud to be French"
I don't think Leigh Francis was forced to apologize. He just felt compelled to for some reason. Never saw it as racist, just wacky and absurd. He didn't just do black characters.
I think if you're famous then you're going to get a bit of ridicule. Craig has said that his career wasn't ruined by it & that his PR team said to "play up" him being hurt by it. The apology was more broad & about all his characters that could be seen to be "Black-face". I think it's all in the context of whether it intended to be racially offensive or not. In Francis' case I don't see much evidence to support that, but being white I realise I'm not really qualified to judge!
