It seems like Craig and Nicky are working on Nicky’s passing and leg lock defence. Craig really only used upper body submission threats and off-balances to enter the legs. No urgency to take top position. This had more of a positional sparring vibe. If that’s true it would certainly make sense considering Nicky’s defeat against Gordon. Motivating him to get better in that area for future competition against adept leg-lockers.

these two needed each other tbh one is so explosive, strong, and aggressive on top while the other is incredibly comfortable and known for playing off their back and using leg attacks with agility and fluidity. cool to see them in action, but wish there was footage of them rolling with a little more gas in the tank!

I'm ol' school, Gi, belt, grips, no slippery sweaty bodies to deal with. Loved it even though modern BJJ intrigues me and I hope to one day dive back in. I see where it's going through and it's already mostly there: two octopuses fighting. hehe. Awesome roll guys, learned a ton.

C. Jones tried to sneak in that calf slicer (4:55) by acting like he wanted to put the right leg over, but he really wanted to overlap the left leg and figure four it. Nice! When I had an injured arm, that used to be my go to submission.

I think Jones is trying less because he has to. In his other matches in the gym he is either dominating the stand up or working for take downs. He also dominates the top and goes for a lot of techniques. He has to avoid standing up with Nicky Rod to avoid being blast- doubled, etc. He also has to counter N. Rod to avoid being put into a spot where he will be overpowered and can't use technique to get out.

My take is Craig opimises conservation of enegry, Nicky is a high level grappler but still leans into playing the big boy game, one leg defence he just powered out, works against smaller dudes but the day he hit a dog as big as him he didn't have a response.

At the very end Nicky entered roddy lock. Wanted to see the round finish to see how Craig defends, but based on how it almost played out in the beginning it looks like he goes for a guillotine grip on head but more uses it like a frame until he has an opportunity to spring his legs free

I’ve always found it hard to sit through a video of rolling and it’s only because it’s never done in this kinda format. All the guys are super likeable, all seem comfortable having the camera around, obviously high level and fun to watch. Camera work is class too, moving round the right spots and with the guys not being fazed it makes the videos a fun watch. Peace ✌🏻 💚🫵🏻

I can't believe these guys were paired up in DDS and they just battled for so long to get on top position. Tbh they both could learn a lot from each other. It's a shame Craig Jones isn't bigger. I think Craig is 200 pounds and Nicky rod is 220. Craig being from Australia wouldn't know wrestling obviously he's got heaps better at it now and Nicky rod has got heaps better at Jiu jitsu.
