Deep into Mount Cramer Trail lies lower, middle and upper Cramer Lakes. Spend an entire day hiking this lengthy trail or split it up as a backpacking trip in order to bag some nearby peaks. Be sure to shave off around six miles round trip by taking the fairy shuttle across Redfish Lake from the Redfish Lake Resort. Bring your wallet it is not cheap. Views never cease throughout the Sawtooth Wilderness. Early in the season Redfish Lake Creek could be very high so prepare for at least one tricky creek crossing. This hike should be ranked as one of the best day hikes in the Sawtooth Range. Long and steady is the theme of this monster day hike so prepare for nature soaked fun!

Hiked this on 8/11 and camped overnight. We set our tent up on the opposite side of the lake from the falls. What a view to wake up to in the morning. Thanks for the video. It inspired us to make the climb. We are novice hikers. Took us 6hrs to get up there, but so worth it. Had to swim in the lake. It was cold. Lol.

Great hike! Loving all those views from this area. This one felt like there was a lot of cinematography with those drone shots. Cool that you got that one over the ferry 👍 . Epic water crossing...😂, all two feet. That waterfall between the two lakes!?! Are you serious?!? That looked friggn amazing! Yea man, you're a lucky dude to get to experience all of that nature and have a supportive family. #blessed

The Sawtooth is truly an amazing place! I have been there recently and only scratched the surface. Looking forward to return again more than any other places. I have been to many places in the country, also Banff in Canada.

I have heard about this park a few years ago. We went on a business trip and took a weekend for ourselves but it was snowing really hard so opted out. Very cool to see what this is like. LIKE #6.👍👍👍👍

Apparently it gets super cold in the Sawtooths over winter 🥶, similar to how cold it is right now in MN -10 degrees 🥶... best to visit in summer 😉

Real cool video guys! I was curious, did you guys hike back and if so, how do to time it to take the fairy back?

Thanks Andrew! The fairy has scheduled pickup times from that side of the lake. I think it was like every two hours. If this helps, we started around 8am and ran almost the entire way back to make the 5pm fairy. The last fairy shuttle was 7pm, I believe. Non stop views the entire way! Long but we’ll worth it👍🏼. Let me know if you got any other questions .

Phenomenal place, Matt. I've added it to the BL. Another way of looking at it, is your wife and kids are lucky to have a husband/dad to take them to such cool spots. Was there anyone else on the trail? Seemed pretty quiet for August! Nicely shot and edited per usual.

Thank you! We hiked the Sawtooths last summer during COVID so there wasn’t as many per usual. This was a huge hike so the farther out we got there were fewer and fewer people😁👍🏼. Redfish lake area had a ton of peeps though. I appreciate you watching 😁

Matt, I am planning a key swap multi-night hike with some guys, having one group come from the east and the other from the northwest. The meeting point was going to be Upper Cramer for a full group camp. My question, was there a good amount of camping at Upper Cramer? Enough to have 8-12 tents either in the same spot or dispersed? Thanks for your time.

Hey Kevin. I think between all 3 of the lakes up there you’d be able to pitch that many tents. If I remember correctly, all 3 lakes were right next to each other one after the next. Upper Cramer was huge and we didn’t see anyone camping the first week of August. I feel like there was a lot of space for tents by the waterfall between the lakes. Obviously the time of year you go and time of day you get there depend on all that. Sounds like a super fun time! If you’re looking for a good scramble try Decker Peak. It towers over upper cramer to the east👍🏼. So gorgeous there! Cheers!

I’m pretty sure it was only 1 crossing. Should be higher than when we did it in August that’s for sure. You’ll love that hike! Much more quiet on that side of the lake.

What are the chances of running into bears out there? I know zip about that area.

There are black bear in the Sawtooths but we didn’t see any scat whatsoever. We’ve been out there a couple times now and hiked many miles and I haven’t seen any evidence of bears except for storage signs😂. I wouldn’t worry👍🏼
