Another video that I filmed all the way back in April. This one is set in Cranborne Chase... Where?! On the Dorset/Wiltshire border and not far from Shaftesbury.
It took me 90 minutes to drive to the start and it was a repeat of a route that I led with the group in July 2017. Climbing up to Melbury Beacon from the road, crossing the same road towards Compton Abbas Airfield and then looping around, over the road one final time to explore Fontmell Down.

Beautiful countryside Olly. It's nice to walk the hills, descend and ascend and get around and about. That airfield reminded me of Shobdon in Herefordshire where my dad and some others started the first parachute club in Britain. There's something about airfields that's romantic. Take care. Mark

Thank you, Mark, I find it's often hard to get around such beautiful places without having to descend and ascend. I also enjoy the physical challenge. I like that you thought of Shobdon and your dad's legacy. I was surprised to find this was a working airfield, after viewing it on the map. So many disused ones about. I can remember my granddad taking me to Yeovilton as a child, possibly other sites as well. Give me an airFIELD over an airPORT any day! ;-) Thanks again, Mark and all the best.

A beautiful walk Olly which to me had a Ridgeway look to it. Hopefully Olly you managed to reassemble your flock during your previous visit 👀😁🤭. We really do live on a magical island. The wide open spaces far from being flat and featureless, decorated with many wooded valley floors are enchanting. Always good to venture on to unfamiliar terrain 😊👍

Yes, Paul, I'd say there's a definite Wiltshire landscape to it, much like the western end of The Ridgeway. I believe the Wessex Ridgeway to Dorset (part of the Greater Ridgeway) runs through Cranborne Chase at some point. I did manage to get everyone to regroup on that day... Still don't know what they were thinking! :-D Thanks for watching, Paul. All the best.

Nice area for walking with the scenery and woodland, no surprise it's an area of outstanding natural beauty, 👍

Thanks, Gaz. Yeah, it's impressive. This place has only ever been ninety minutes from home but I'd not heard of it until last year. Surprising how many AONBs there are to be found. All the best.

Thank you for watching, Jim. I'm pleased to hear you feel inspired from watching this video. It will never get as many views as a film in the Lakes or Snowdonia but that shouldn't make it anything less. :-) All the best.

Great video Olly. I recognised where this was as soon as the film started. Its up that very steep hill near to Melbury Abbas. We pass this everytime we visit Swanage in Dorset. I always say to my wife that we should do a walk here someday. It looks amazing. I done the waterfalls walk in Chew Stoke last Sunday. Really nice walk. Expect a vlog of the walk soon.

Thanks, Martin, I'm glad to hear that you recognised the area! I hope you will do a walk there the next time you're passing by. Glad to hear you found the waterfall near Chew Stoke and I look forward to that video. All the best!

Olly, the was a great looking area to explore (totally agree that it pays to visit unknown areas) and looked like great walking with the paths and tracks. Great that you have the system of public rights of way which don't exist here in Northern Ireland beyond a few way marked walks. Lovely stuff :-)

Thanks for your comment, Gerry. I didn't realise that you lacked such a network in Northern Ireland. I thought you'd have it more like Scotland where (if I'm not mistaken), many paths exist but they're not well recorded on the maps... I hope to get across the sea and explore the mountains of both Irish nations at some point. I always enjoy your videos to see what I could one day experience. Thanks again and all the best.

Well done Olly a really nice film, some lovely wide open scenery and yes, it does pay to explore places you’ve never heard of.

Thank you, Mike. If I had filmed this more recently, I like to think I'd have done more talking in front of the camera and perhaps improved the footage a bit... But I'm pleased you liked it, despite the lack of mountains. ;-) All the best.

I must admit I'd only heard of Cranborne Chase probably within the past year or so, and if someone asked me where it was I wouldn't have been able to tell them. I'm normally more interested in watching a film of a walk in a lesser known area than some of the well known places. Cranborne Chase looks nice from what you showed in your video, certainly Fontmell Down didn't look flat and featureless to me. Great walk again Olly, and like you said at the end, it does pay to visit places we've maybe not heard of. All the best. Cheers, Patrick :)

Thanks for watching, Patrick. I like how so few other people have heard of the place. Do you know why or how it came to your attention? I hope you get the chance to explore it for yourself one day. There's bound to be a certain amount of local history. All the best.

It was when I was doing research for my own films last year, the ones I made in the south west. I Googled Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and up came the complete list. I knew of the Cotswolds, Mendip Hills and the Quantock Hills of course, but I'd never heard of many of the others, i.e. North Wessex Downs, Blackdown Hills and Cranborne Chase.
