Welcome back friends! This week we’re down towards the southern coast of England exploring another beautiful part of the English countryside and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty called Cranborne Chase.
If you’ve been following this series so far you’ll know that this summer we’ve embarked on a ‘Vanlife England’ adventure to try & change our negative mindset about what it’s like to travel & live in a campervan here.
The itinerary for this AONB includes immersing ourselves in nature, soaking up the history including ancient trees, spectacular castle ruins, mysterious hilltop groves…and rather disappointingly some really quite average walks!
But we also enjoy some incredible views from what might well be the best free park up in England. Let us know what you think in the comments!

I regularly drive through that area to get to Yeovil from the New Forest always going through Cranborne. The roads around Shaftesbury are amazing, full of fantastic views.

I spend most of my time in the Forest but regularly work in Yeovil and the drive through the areas you visited beats the main roads for sure. I was hoping you'd take the drive down Zig Zag Hill, it's really sketchy in a LWB Sprinter. Check it out on Google Maps. I should do a video on it for my own channel really, it totally freaked me out the first time.

We are sometimes struggling to find free park ups anywhere in England, so we have joined English Heritage, the car parks are free and the one we are in today does not say no overnight stays, so we are risking it for the first time. I must say Scotland is far better for free camping. Even in the heart of Edinburgh, love Scotland❤️❤️❤️

That’s interesting, we’d have guessed that most English heritage sites would be no overnight although we have actually stayed in a free one previously ourselves with no issues. You’ll have to let us know how you get on, would be great to hear! 😀❤️

I have been at this for a decade and ive found that if you dont stand out like a beacon nobody other than the" get a lifers" bother you , just dont be afraid fear is a poisonous and pointless control method,, enjoy the land and just be good at apologies sometimes thats all it takes

That’s solid advice, we’re getting better at doing that but we’re probably a bit more cautious with having a young daughter. We definitely don’t want her exposed to anything unsavoury or frightening but you’re right, we know we’re not doing anything wrong so should be confident in that 🙌❤️
