Mary Fritzenkotter I was sitting in a recliner chair last night when one flew into my face, and I literally jumped out of the chair so fast and at such a weird angle that I pulled a muscle😂😂
I just killed 8 of them last night. I was freaking out cause I thought they were mosquitos. I feel terrible after watching this. it makes sense why I have them now. I have a giant puddle of water on the side of my house.
@G0LIATH there's about just as many if not more of these damn crane flies. Honestly haven't noticed any mosquitos in my area and I kill these Skeeter eaters whenever they get too close to annoy me
I remember early this June I was feeling really shitty. Later that day I went out to the yard and I found one of those craneflies around my shed. For some reason, looking at it just… made me feel kind of better. Something about it reignited the curiosity I had for insects back in my childhood. By now it probably already passed away, but I hope it enjoyed its life.
I find them fascinating! :) And I like to observe them. The poor things are pretty clumsy fliers, but they are big and magnificent and I love to watch them.
I just saw one and screamed my ass off cause I was taking a shit. I wiped my ass and got out of the bathroom Asap to get a towel and I whipped it and it just disappeared. I'm traumatized
The oddest of insects! They have no defence, absolutely none and virtually offer themselves up to predators. They can barely even fly properly either so I assume their evolutionary success can only be sheer weight of numbers. I do like the critters though :)
That's just during the adult phase, as larvae they're vicious parasites of other insects, I mostly spend their adult time meeting so that they can go about again, parasitizing other insects :-)
@@Sara3346 Haven't heard of any parasitic species, most are herbivores in their larval stage, and are still pretty clumsy. Many spend time eating grasses, algae, or roots.
I can handle most bugs, but these things *haunt* me when they come around March and April. I know how stupid they are, but they appear to be so large that getting rid of it is horrifying.
That's me and yellow jackets. While possibly harmful the yellow jacket is actually trying to find its way outside instead. Meanwhile I just keep panicking.
Ikr once on holiday I saw lots of crane flies on the wall & I killed them by stepping on them but about 2 weeks ago there was one in my house & I didn’t like the look of it at all they look look flying spiders flying which makes them hard to kill & the spider part makes it scary I hope everyone who sees one kills them if we find them creepy when they come into our house I hope they-crane flies find us creepy when they’re outside & they see us outside , like when we see them outside & they’re outside I hope they find us creepy when they see us outside just like we do when we seem them inside

I let a wet crane fly chill on my desk while I got some work done, it was attached to my hands but finally decided to relax on the desk when I turned on the lamp. He's so chill!
I think I am the only one that actually loves crane flies I absolutely adore them whenever I see one I just can't stop myself from holding it on my hand.
I had always thought they were mosquitoes. I think I'd heard they they were the male mosquito and incapable of biting. I've been seeing tons of them this year and only learned just today they are actually flies. Thanks for the video!
Lol a little big to mate with a tiny mosquito I think. I can't say I'm any better though, I heard they ate mosquitoes and so I only just got around to finding out what they actually are.
They may not be dangerous, but I've scratched my knuckles pretty badly when trying to kill one, mostly because I punched the roof getting one. Dangerous sport
They're not easy to kill for me because I'm too scared to hit one. I have very fast and accurate hands though and could easily kill one but I don't have the guts to do it.
I saw one of these today at work. Needless to say, I watched it get caught by a daddy long leg spider by the end of my shift. It was a beautiful moment witnessing the power of the long leg.
To me these thing are terrifying to me I know there harmless and they don't hurt you and they are benifical but I'm just scared of them that's all don't judge me
“So the next time you see one, try not to kill it.” *sees Crane Fly thinking it’s a giant ass mosquito trying to kill me* Me: hjsjebeuwjsbsosbeiej *smashes Crane Fly* .....oops
Bunch of these are around my mother's house right now because of the heavy rains we had here in SoCal recently. They're harmless, unless you have a thriving flower bed. Their larvae can cause a bit of damage to the root system. Adults really don't last long (birds like to come up to the porch and help themselves to 'em, lol)...
They're every where right now. A pair of them were mating on my kitchen window. They piss me off so I decided to light them on fire. I learned they don't detach so well apparently because when I burnt one to a crisp the mate was trying to fly away with the poor bastard still attached.
i got one super cute! he keeps coming in here! and he is'nt scared of us! How we know its the same? We marked him and we let him out. Then the next day he came back! I love to have him in my hand as i watch into his small adorable eyes
Ziggerath they are when you have this happy ass guitar in the background, but say your going to take a shower ( like I just was) and you see one of those huge motherfuckers on the wall like 2 ft from your face, nearly jumped out of my skin. They are ok outside but a terror inside
is it just me or are these crane flies really clumsy & stupid.. i try to get them to go back outside but they just end up all over the place. one time when i was cooking on the stove, one of them flew right into the flame on the burner & there was nothing i could do to save it. i tried to keep it from flying there but it just happened so fast. it makes me sick to think about that poor thing burning. :(
at the end of the cranefly's life it later ends up into a house and into a room where it then screamed at and then BOMBARED WITH FLAMES FROM A FLAMETHROWER WHILE BEING STEPPED ON.
Bro one time I was watering my plants and two massive crane flies that were attached flew towards me so fast and I ran but they chased me I swear... These thing are nightmare creatures bruh
I loved this!!! I was an exterminator for over 7 years and always went out of my way to catch and release them because I knew they are harmless. People always think they are giant mosquitos but they just constantly bump against walls and windows looking like they are drunk. Love em. To me they are the daddy long legs of flies
I still feel cringe by them but I have achieved what I aimed to do when searching for a video like this; A deeper understanding and appreciation for their place in the ecosystem.
these things grow to be huge where i live! i always love seeing them. they’re big enough that they don’t really feel like bugs, so much as just little animals. they’re so clumsy and silly
I'm not scared of these silly guys. I'm afraid of accidentally smashing one of their limbs when I rest my hand on my desk, and having to watch it struggle for days before death. And, I don't want to kill it, but I have to end its suffering ;(
Every one in the comments: "Omg, they're scary tho" Literally me years ago, back in elementary: **Seeking them out during recess and catching them with my barehands** _They're too derpy for me to be afraid lol_
One of these landed on my face, and I went to grab my face to see what it was and it tried to fly away but because I had my hand there it flapped around trying to escape, I am now traumatised by it and have PTSD 0-0
They aren’t scary themselves. It’s the fact they’re so small that they disappear and they always sneak up on you. If I had 3 wishes my first would be to make all crane flies disappear.
I should watch this video earlier. I really feel sad for the one I've just killed!! I really feel sad for him/her but that was just because of the lack of knowledge.
Wow, short but very well done. Thanks for making this film. I appreciate the taking time to note their ecological significance and to all those that fear and smash "bugs": research ecology and explore nature. You'll learn to just how important insects are, even mosquitoes.
Poor misunderstood insects, I actually hate some people here. Just because something looks bizarre doesn't mean it deserves death. If you want the reason behind the long legs, apparently it's to help act as decoys, so if a predator attacks they can sacrifice a leg to escape.
Actually, some of us are deathly afraid of them, mainly because of they way they wobble as they’re flying, especially when they go into your face. I ,too, am afraid of them, but I don’t try to kill them because I know they don’t cause harm to us.
Amazing that so many ignorant people fear the stupidest things like bugs just because they "look scary". Sometimes I wish I was something other than human.
I think you are the ignorant one here. I have a phobia, something I can't choose. I can't help it, they scare the hell out of me. I wish I wasn't scared of these Amazing creatures.
Unlike most harmless things humans are scared of like (some) spiders and dragonflies, these hideous things have no purpose whatsoever. Spiders eat pests and dragonflies eat mosquitoes, but crane flies eat nothing of value. Their only hope in life is to either mate or become food for spiders. That's it, that's all they've got going for them. Over here in the UK, I believe they've co-evolved with spiders to emerge at exactly the same time as the spider mating season, just so they can be food for hungry mother spiders. Their only part in the food chain is to be food themselves. What a pathetic animal.
Your stupidity is incomprehensible and what exactly is your purpose and contribution to the Earth! Please do enlighten me and take all the time you need! Il wait...🤔🤔🙄
