My wife made that lei. She likes them long; about 27 inches long so it hangs from the middle of her shoulders instead of wrapped at the base of the neck. She bought 3 whole rolls of ribbon online. I marked the smallest ribbon every 2 1/2 inches (62mm) for her, so she wouldn't have to count picots. It turned out beautifully. Thank you for the great tutorial. Those make great, unique and unusual gifts.
nice! i'm in process of making one.... ribbon with piko definitely makes measuring easier. i really need to invest in a doll needle tho. mahalo for sharing!
Hi! The ribbon will naturally twist when you are doing the running stitch. You can also twist it more by hand after sewing to adjust to your liking. Thanks for watching!
Great! Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed our video. You can also check our Lei Making or Graduation Playlist on our channel for more lei making ideas. Have fun!
I would like to make the lei out of only two ribbons. What sizes to you recommend me using? Burgundy and gold, which one do you recommend to be the picot (center)?
Tinker ZT Aloha! You can use a 5/8" ribbon and a 7/8". The color of your bigger ribbon will be your predominant color. Enjoy making your lei and thank you for watching!
didn't mention how much ribbon you will need. yesterday I purchased 6 yards and by the time I was done I only had about a foot and a half of lei. Also I should have listened to you about getting the picot ribbon, I had THEE hardest time keeping my stitches same size.
+Vivian Rivera Hi! Once you have sewn all the ribbon together you will need to twist it yourself to create this effect. Start from one end and gently begin twisting the ribbon as you work your way to the other end. Thank you you for watching.
Yes, you can make it with satin ribbon, but satin ribbon usually is a little soft and doesn't hold its shape as well. I will try to film soon and demonstrate on COC. :)
