In this video we show how to replace a failing crankshaft position sensor in a 1999-2007 Chevrolet Silverado.
If you are replacing this on a 2004 and up the crankshaft sensor will need to be relearned.
If you have any further interest please visit www.2carpros.co... where you can ask any car questions.

If you are replacing it in the 4.3 V6 it is different. The CKP is located under the crankshaft pulley. Hope this helps someone.

13mm for the starter bolts, 10mm for the sensor. Setup is a little different on the 6.0L I worked on today.

@Val Bigfish Thanks. I had to sell it last year. My issue back then turned out to be failed torque converter where the slow acceleration got worse within a few days to the point of complete failure. The transmission place in Lakewood that rebuilt it replaced 1-2 known weak parts with better, sturdier compatible parts from Corvette It ran way better afterwards. That was the only thing I had to have done. I never regretting owning it during my 15 year ownership.

This veido does not show the location of the crank sensors on all silverados from 1999 to 07. I have a 2001 silverado HD with a 8.1L engine and the crank position sensor is located at the back top right side of the block, just a little right of center and exstreamly hard to get to. Does anyone know a procedure to replace this sensor without pulling the motor????.
@2carpros
@2carpros 9 лет назад
+Hugh McGee Sorry for the confusion but in general if you have a heavy duty vehicle it will not be the same as the regular Chevrolet Silverado. All of our videos with the HD in the title are performed on the heavy duty trucks. As for your question to replace a sensor, you have to "pull the motor" sounds very extreme.

This video blows ! It would have been helpful if they would have told you to remove the oil dipstick and tube that connects to the side of the motor . It passes directly behind the starter. The starter will not come out unless you move the dipstick tube. They make it look too simple. They should tell you everything. 😜😷🇺🇸

@spfldo
@spfldo 7 лет назад
It's very difficult on the 4x4. You barely have room to manipulate the starter, because the dipstick tube is in the way. The pigtail on my crank position sensor was short and tied into the harness with the starter wires. Being short, pushing and manipulating the starter, pulled the wires out of the plug. The replacement pigtail has three gray wires, and the originals we're colored. Now which splices to which wire? Have to do some more research.

This video was ok but there are somethings that also need to be covered such as with some CPS packages you will get spacers. These need to be installed in some cases and needs to be covered as a possibility. Also cover the reasons why. The main problem with this video is that you might as well be doing it in the dark because you can't see what you are doing. You need lights in your shop.
@2carpros

Anything that needs a spacer should not be used we recommend oem replacement parts only for overall performance and quality. My 2004 Sierra 2500HD with a 6.0 needed a scanner to relearn the sensor after I was done. If anyone watching plans on doing this in their driveway your truck may not run after you are done.

Great additional info this truck started without a scanner, was the key on when you changed it? just wondering how the computer could tell?
@giulioesposito214
@giulioesposito214 8 лет назад
The key was off and the negative battery cable was disconnected. I didn't think it would do that either but the truck ran so bad it wouldn't move after I was done. I even tried putting the old sensor back in. No luck.

Whenever replacing these crankshaft position sensor you must do a crankshaft variation relearn by using the GM scan tool those guys should know that

What are the symptoms of a bad CSP sensor?
@chrislovessia
@chrislovessia 7 лет назад
Aziz Saad This may be a little late for you, but I noticed no one answered you. I just had mine replaced. The vehicle would start & run normally while in "park", but would misfire and stall when I put it in drive and accelerate. It would be difficult to restart - I was thinking fuel pump - but once it started again it would idle and accelerate normally, as long as it was in park. I don't know if these symptoms are typical, but that is what my 97 chevy half ton did. Wish I had known. This is a pretty simple fix. I could have saved $350 in towing, rental, and repair costs. Hard to diagnose without a computer, although there are YT videos about that too.

chris lovessia Did your vehicle died randomly after you drove for a couple hours?
@chrislovessia
@chrislovessia 7 лет назад
David Lopez The problem began immediately. From that point the engine would run while in park, but would backfire, miss badly, and then die when I tried to drive it. I had to have it towed to the shop. I wish I could have made it go for a couple hours lol.

+David Lopez - Our Car / Blazer died about 1-2 Hours in.... We were pulling all of our Hair out. Come to find out, it's the Coolant Sensor and it was $2.86 with free shipping. But for six Months, we couldn't figure it out :(((. Try this EASY TEST... All you need is a " Paper Clip " and you will find out right away !!! P0300 code on my truck right now, amazon has this sensor for $48, which beats anybody else out there. Don't use an aftermarket brand on this sensor. Hoping this solves my p0300 code.... been chasing it for awhile. Starter is easy to remove, there is a plastic cover over the flywheel for my 04 silverado that has to be removed before removing the starter. Great video, thanks!

Just an FYI. This sensor wasn't throwing a specific code. Just the p0300 code for multiple missfire. The fuel pressure what checked and is good, accelerator calibration was good, injector pulses are all good, I replaced the plugs and wires (as it was time), all sensors were reading good. I had this sensor replaced after having a local shop (GM shop) look at it, they advised this was teh issue. I advised that I had narrowed it down to this being the issue as well and wanted to confirm. This sensor being replaced also requires a GM Tech II crankshaft sensor relearn. They tried to relearn the factory sensor, it was still reading off. Sensor was replaced and relearn completed. No more issues! I Drove 3 hours without a single CEL blink. I even made sure to get the RPM's way up. *************** Please note: you DO need a GM tech II crankshaft sensor relearn after replacing this sensor.*********** (I knew this ahead of time)
