In this video I’m chasing an oil leak in the back passenger side corner of the Oil Pan. My first thought is to replace the oil pan gasket, but I decided to see if the problem is actually the Crank Shaft Position Sensor.

You call that an oil leak!? It's not a real leak until you are adding a quart every other tank of gas! Be honest, you just wanted to show off that nice truck to all of us searching RU-vid for how to fix our rusty sludge coated LS.😭 That 2007 looks amazing! You have done a great job taking care of it. 😍🙌 Anyone watching this video will be jealous. Great video 👍

I found the oil leak on my 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine last night, the rear part of the right hand side valve rocker cover seal was leaking oil even after I replaced the seals about 6 weeks ago. I pulled the valve rocker cover off to check for any crap which may have got underneath the seal & in between the cylinder head & valve rocker cover seal As well as for any niicks & scratches, there was none. I will run the engine for a week or so to check because it was leaking oil onto the starter motor, if it keeps leaking then I will replace the seals albeit only on the right hand side !

That’s weird! The valve covers are pretty good if they’re replaced.

On my 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine I think that it's just the crankshaft position sensor O ring which is leaking because only the starter motor is getting wet,I am going to replace the O ring this weekend. It's a 9/16" ID & 3/32" thick or a 14mm ID & 2.5mm thick O ring which I have available Inna couple of my O ring kits. It only seems to leak when the car is driven around town & not on the open road, I did check it one night & the oil appears to be coming from the sensor !

That’s good, I guess. Way better than the rear main seal.

My 5.3 is leaking in the same place it has been for 8 years now it is a 02 Silverado it has 275000 on it it still runs to this day im disabled but it leaves a oil leak on the ground to the places I see it leaking is above the starter on passenger side ❤❤❤

I replaced the sensor thinking it would fix it, but it ended up being the rear main seal. My Silverado has approximately 290,000 miles.

Did you have to relearn the crankshaft sensor when you changed it? My leak is forward of the starter and it definitely looks like the crankshaft sensor. Everything else has been replaced on mine except the sensor.

No learning required. Plug and play.

What transmission do you have? I have 2012 with the 6speed at 170321 miles and I’ve heard that they die at 150k-200k miles

I have the 4L60e. 4 speed. I have it flushed every two years regardless of miles.

I have a 2011 with the 6 speed. 194k on the clock has been tuned its whole life and never one trans issue. But I do a filter fluid change every 40-50k

Did u figure it out

Yep. It’s in Part 3. I was hoping it wasn’t the rear main seal, but with close to 300,000 miles, it should have been expected.
