Harder than GCSE, my school did GCSEs for Year 10 and Year 11 (grade 9 and 10) then IBs for years 12 and 13 (grades 11 and 12). GCSEs served as a solid stepping stone, especially in the ‘necessity of past papers’ aspect. O levels are very similar to GCSEs. A Levels give you a lot more freedom and high grades in A Levels can still get you into the strongest universities, especially in the UK. However, IB is easily the best and most well-respected system, it also prepares you well for university in terms of getting you used to writing long essays (IAs, EEs, ToK) and trying to articulate your points within (at times) pretty tight word limits.
