Discovered your channel from MORR and I've been watching your content for a few weeks. Couple things I want to say. First I have never seen anyone so " in tune" with their vehicle. The precision that you place tires, how you use the front end to pull that beast through some really tight spots is nothing less than amazing. Second thing, we don't tune in to these videos to hear someone speak eloquently. We watch because it's real world stuff done by people we can relate to so don't worry about saying umm or huh or whatever. You make great videos that are really entertaining and educational. I saw you say something about being a high school dropout, well guess what...you're also a teacher. I'm glad your daughter wasn't with you when this incident happened and that nobody was hurt! Keep doing your thing and we'll keep watching!
Rory, you are a treasure, you are one with Trail mater. Watching your explanation of the accident, the resurrection of Trail mater WOW. And to hear that Trail mater doesn't have a locker in the rear, that makes it even more astounding what you do.l was understanding that lockers were mandatory in Rock country. I agree with all the other responses.

Nobody hurt is a good thing. Trucks can be rebuilt as you have shown. Every dent & scratch is a memory, some good, some not so good. Next step is finding another building for the shop. One day at a time. Thanks for sharing Mater with us.

Rory, I watched one of your videos for the first time last week and I’ve never seen a driver control a vehicle (let alone a loaded wrecker) the way you do. It was truly inspirational. Sorry for the anxt you suffered with the backflip, but as said by others, nobody hurt and the customer’s vehicle not harmed, so onward and upward - it’s the only way ❤️🇷🇴🇬🇧
Trailmater is the truck. Rory is the man. With the recoveries you do in the places you go the rest of us would have daily rollovers. Glad nobody was injured.
The video was well put together with emotion which conveys SO MUCH ! You LOVE that old truck and when you’re out in the cab, moving gears, your head on swivel, your whole body portrays the love of what you do out in your “OFFICE”. You are so careful and knowledgeable about the incredible forces you're dealing with, it's such a shame that one little error caused so much grief. I just watched you position that cargo container at the cell tower, and there were enormous forces in every direction! (Pulling the chain with the buggy gave you no headache protection if that chain let go!). You took all the right precautions with roll cage and setup, and no one was hurt, but it had to be tough to experience. Glad you came out with an optimized build!

Hey Rory, I too discovered your channel through Matt's Offroad Recovery. You Sir, are one of the most HUMBLE human beings, (Next to my WIFE) I have ever had the pleasure of seeing on RU-vid! Your attitude and spirit is refreshing compared to many of the self centered "Influencers" that troll RU-vid! As a person that has gone "All In" with his career and his family, I recognize that you too have gone all in on this endeavor that you make your living at. Your ability to operate your Recovery Rig at such a high level is an inspiration to us all. As it is with ALL of us in this world, Mistakes will be made, and THIS is where learning takes place! As my dad used to say, "Boy, if you never make a mistake, if you never take a chance, then GLORY will ALWAYS be just out of your reach"! Rory, you provide EXCELLENT content, Period. Your truck is extremely functional which I always tell my wife “function over form”. Some of the recoveries we watched together are pretty amazing. You pull vehicles out of some very difficult places - just to get to much less retrieve them. Awesome job that you do! The video taping part will get easier with practice. Thanks!
Nobody hurt is a good thing. Rory, I am amazed with some of the places you go and recover….the fact that you have not had 50 more rollovers is a testament to your skills, knowledge and experience.

I'm quite amazed that you haven't rolled it down off one of those edge of the mountains yet. It can be fixed, and likely be even better than it was before. What you do is a very dangerous job and you are amazingly good at it. You make great videos too, the kind that I can't look away from. You didn't build this truck to be pretty. You built it for a very unique purpose. Make it run and do it's job again and continue on. The World needs guys like you and your amazing tow truck. Thanks for what you do. You're definitely on the right track, Charley. If Rory were to take a couple of moments to remember all those folks that he has dragged out of the rocks over the years he might have an idea of just how many people on the other side of the camera appreciate his dedication and skill with that beat up old wrecker (those aren't dents, they're "character marks!!)! He always has made himself available when he's gotten those phone calls at inconvenient times. He still took himself (and Shawn) away from his "time off" to recover folks from dangerous situations. I don't remember which of the other guys "passed" me along when I found Rory. It was either Matt or Paul, but one of them made a reference to Rory and showed something he was in the middle of. Anyway, I've been watching his work for several months and will be here for as long as Rory keeps doing this. It's all been worth the many hours of video... Thanks, Rory!!
There is a great line in the song Wasted in Margueritaville....... "Some people say there's a woman to blame but I know, its my own damn fault"... For lots of us, our truck, car or motorcycle is a powerful mistress.. and if we neglect or ignore her needs... she can and will bite. Listening to your description and Looking at your wounded "Mater" ... you walked away because she was watching out for you. Whatever happens to Moab Motorsports, your memories and those of all the people you and Mater have touched, are just a foundation for your next rescue. We will be watching for it.
I got there only an hour after this happen. You had just welded a highsteer arm back on for me the day before and I wish I could have returned the favor. Glad you are back at it.
I think the one thing that most RU-vidrs have in common, is that some armchair quarterback is trying to “Enlighten” you on things! You are up there living this day in and day out! Getting called away from your meals, your family functions, holidays, in the middle of the night and all hours of the freaking day! You sir are a ledgend! Don’t ever let people get to you about what they “think” they know better! I am relatively new to watching RU-vid (it started with Matt pulling a Hyundai out of a canyon on a 4X4 only road) that lead me to you and others in Utah and other states. Just keep doing what you do, I am very sure there are a lot of drivers that are very thankful a guy like you exists! Thanks for the update. It is good nobody got hurt. Do a video when you can, we like them. Take the good advise you get and go with it. Ignore those clowns who complain about what you do, most don't understand life anyway. Remember, when it gets so bad you don't know whether to shit or go blind, close one eye and fart real loud.

I appreciate the sentimentality that comes with working long and hard on a vehicle. They develop identities and personas. Back in 1984, in the span of about three months, a family member wrecked a '72 Chevelle I was building and a friend totaled my Kawasaki 900 Ninja I had recently purchased. There were some emotional moments following those events and I've always (even now) really missed both vehicles. They were a part of me. Love how you put the truck back together so efficiently and quickly. You are an inspiration.
Glad nobody was hurt. You are more than capable of rebuilding it. I understand your comment that this truck takes up a lot of your time. As a single father I enjoy seeing you take your daughter with you. I can tell you from experience , she will remember this her whole life.

Nice to be able to go back the scene and work thru the issues remaining and rebuilt it from where it was and a lot better in many areas. Glad that the process of rebuilding the truck helped you work thru the trauma of the accident and that nobody got hurt. Job well done in the re-built. Don't feel bad about taking the help people offered you in this dificult moment. It is good to know that there is still a lot of good people out there willing to help a guy when he is down. Keep up making the videos and doing what you know how to do well at your work. Just be carefull at every job because that is why they are called "accidents" you never know when they are going to happen or if everyone is going to be safe after something goes wrong. Your sentiments for this truck is a ting to be admired. It shows that men can show their emotions and still be bad to bone. Good job again. I’m 73 years old and will try in my life time to shake your hand.
So glad no one was injured, except for Trail Mater, but now it looks even better thanks to your hard work Rory. Sounds like you had a brutal few weeks, but that is what makes us who we are and build massive humility, integrity and fortifies our character. I like many came from Matts recovery channel and while I love that guy and his team..the stuff you recover is SO FAR over the top...I am amazed at the people that try to drive there in Moab and stuff and then YOU yes YOU come to recover them in your strange but WONDERFULL truck that can not only go where they could not but can actually pick them up and bring them to safety...all while idling and munching on a burrito...I am in awe!!..You my friend are a real DRIVER!!!
Sentimental value of the vehicle would be unbelievable in my book, you did good with it. Just odd seeing a 1 ton truck that's a dually on a trail. It flexes great, usually really stiff. It's one of a kind

I have owned three GM 1 ton trucks, a 1973, a 1976, and a 1982, 1 Chevy, and 2 x GMC's, 1 C30 and two K30's. used them to haul massive loads all over the West Coast. Even hauled a 48 horse capacity horse trailer from Northern California to Tucson Arizona. The 454 and the SM 465 with 510 rear end ratios would pull anything you could ever throw at it. I once moved a 35 ft gooseneck trailer stacked 8-ft tall with bricks. The trailer had a 32,000 lb capacity dual axle tandem wheel. I ended up bending both axles and the truck did not slow down once even over the 58 grade from Bakersfield to Mojave California. I still cruised at 55 the whole way. It's a great combination that can't be beat if you need to hold loads. Wasn't much on comfort but it was huge on reliability and power!
Hey Rory Every scratch and dent have a story. There are some people that get upset if they get a bug smear on the paint. Tow Mater has and is a character and now becoming a legend. I have friends and family members that do recovery work…but nothing like you do. I very much enjoy the videos your putting out.

Great sentiment in rebuild, glad no one was hurt. KNew a independent service mechanic ended up in a hospital for about six months when a tool box came loose in a crash and ended up in the cab with him. He was never physically the same, became a Horse transporter in semi-size loads. His life was shortened about 20 years and did not get to see his kids grow up. Those are risk assessments that folks should really consider, especially when they really do not understand what they maybe leaving behind... Its all fun until it is not...
yeah, there are definitely better ways of cleaning the truck out than flipping it over and shaking it down lol. Glad you got it put back together! It's great some people pulled together to help you out!

Rory, I am sorry it happened. I am glad that you were physically uninjured by it and the memories will be there for the rest of your life, I'm 53 and i still remember how and why i rolled my 91 S-10 back in 1992. You are a GOOD man and people are stupid BUT a person is smart.

Sometimes the best lessons learned, are learned the hard way, and necessity is the mother of invention...or in this case RE-invention! I'm sure there are many 4wheelers visiting MOAB that rest assured that if they push past their limitations, you are there to save their butts! Hopefully we will get to MOAB soon and meet you, not out of necessity hopefully! 🤞
Glad to finally see this video and the sentimental approach. To many she's an ugly beast and that's too bad. Trail Mater is a fine working strong piece of art. I am glad that you put it back together after such a heart break. Many off roaders roll a rig and throw it away except a few bolt on parts. You Sir saved your rig and replaced a few bolt on pieces and upgraded (minus the rear locker) your rig. Good luck in the future You and your crew are in my prayers Hoka Hey
Going back and looking at some of your old videos and ran across this. It’s funny how we get attached to inanimate mechanical things. You’ve built something that is truly one of a kind and reflects your personality. The more I watch, the more I enjoy and respect you for what you do. You don’t let your detractors get to you. It’s obvious you love what you do. You have to be respected for that.
Goodness. But you kept it together and as always figured out how to get back going. You have a system and know what you have and need to get the job done. awesome!!! Mater is just it!!! Stuff happens. You did your own recovery - and you DID recover! That is great! That truck comes out in great shape. You two are a pair! The two of you make a "whole"..... they don't pay for all the custom work on Mater. And if they totaled it they'd want the truck. No Way!!! You lose some of the "story" if you remove those parts. they are part of Mater's story!!! Lookin Awesome! Took a a bad incident and made it into a chance to make some good changes to Mater - but kept her personality!!

I know exactly what you mean about owning and operating your business. I left the oilfield - pipelining after 24yrs and started my own shop because that's whst I really love, and I built my first and still my main recovery rig about 4yrs ago and now I have the shop full-time and now also I myself go out with one of my two rigs and recovery vehicles all winter long and some calls during the summer but im in PA so I don't get as much summer work as I do winter- deep snow offroad recoveries but if you love whst you do then work is just a word :) ❤️ I've loved every minute since I retired from oilfield work, making someone else loads of money haha now I make myself the money :) glad everything is OK and back up and running 😀
