For those not familiar with the Crystal Glitch - this trick has been known for a VERY long time (my earliest memory of seeing it on YT was in maybe 2008 or 2009). You simply bounce on an iron spring crate for a certain amount of time, then you immediately jump onto an enemy. The game will make the click sound heard in this video, and that gives you another crystal. When I first heard of this trick, someone said you had to bounce on the crate for at least 4 minutes - however, in this run, Crash bounced on it for a total of 3 minutes and 5 seconds. Also, I originally thought you could only do this trick once, but that was simply because I never tried it on more than one enemy, nor seen anyone else do it. This was my first time seeing this glitch done multiple times from one session of bouncing on the crate, and I am understandably shocked that this works. If this guy's Sum of Best Segments is only 2 seconds lower than the time achieved here, we may soon run out of time to save, and this game could come to be known as the Super Mario Bros. of the Crash Bandicoot franchise. Who knows?
the percentage you got in this speedrun is 65% I say this because you did the free crystals trick, but when you get a crystal your percentage increases by 2% and since you got 25 crystals, you already have 50%, and then you faced to the bosses, but when you defeat a boss your percentage increases by 3% and since there are 5 bosses there is a total of 15%. and for that reason you got 65% of game completion
I think some speedrunners in the past have mention that most skip glitches are entirely found by accident. Meaning they must have practiced a lot just to recreate the glitch.
From what I understand someone left crash bouncing on the box while they went AFK, came back to find things got all weird and abnormal when they started playing again, and from there people started experimenting with it which led to the discovery you could manipulate stored values in the game just by jumping on that box
Try body slamming on the metal box for every jump. In theory it should work because when u do it cancels out the slam . And u bounce!!!!! That’s the secrete go get the true world record
I always wonder how does people come up with these game breaking skips...? Is it like a jointed effort on the community doing trial and error actions hundreds of times on specific areas? Or is it someone reverse engineering the game code finding an issue that can be exploited...? It's very fascinating tho...
It's not that complicated really, someone noticed in the game's code that the crystals are stored on the same memory space where the wumpas earned by consecutive enemy jumps are, they are just at the 200 > jumps, then someone figured out that spinning and crouching the moment u touch the ground does not count as crash 'landing' so u can carry the jumping count of an arrow crate wherever u want (as long as you crouch and jump spin your way there) this is also consistent with crash 3 btw the any% uses the same strategy
When you bounce on enemies, you get fruits, but as more enemies you bounce, more good the rewards are, leading to sometime give crystals and gems. And for some reason, bouncing on the jump crate counts to this jump counter, and spinning and then crouching tricks the game making it think you didn't land yet, leaving opportunity to bounce on more enemies, then after you leave the level, crash will start getting crystals like crazy
game keeps track how many in row you have killed by not touching ground. you can prevent it checking if you touch ground by spinning and the crouching. past 200 you start get crystals. the box jumping adds to that kill counter.
The game gives you prizes for how many enemies you can kill in a row without touching the ground. I think it goes 2 enemies on wumpa, 3 enemies 2 wumpa, 4 enemies 3 wumpa and 5 enemies 1 life. Except, it's bugged. If you jump on a jump box, the game will increase the "kill" counter but not award any prizes and the game will also register crouch jumps as not "touching" the ground. Further, because of the way the game is coded, the crystals are awarded if you get 200 kills. So the uploader jumped on the seal to start the kill counter, then bugged it to 199 "kills" by jumping on the crate, and then jumped on the seals to get "real" kills for 200 to 223, awarding them 24 crystals + the crystal from the level. This let them skip the levels. A similar bug exists in Crash 3, but because there are no respawning enemies, they have to do this trick across two levels.
