There is no doubt that there will be members of the community that will not discuss this subject and try to forget it for their own personal reasons.
For us , its an incident that we wanted to document for future lessons to be learned (if there are any lessons to be learned)!
This video is made for educational/historical purposes and NOT intended to offend any parts of the community or individuals.
In this video we look at the German Bomber that was shot down over Bradford during WWII and fell in Idle, Bradford.
We visit the key locations, and look at the artefacts that surround the incident, and most importantly visit the graves of the civilians that died from the crash.

My Grandfather Hirum Fearnley was working as a lookout at Yeadon Airport when he saw the Bomber crash down over His home village of Idle, he cycled from his workpace to High Street to find the German plane had fortunatly for me and all his family had just missed his house by a few yards. My Dad John , just 9 at the time rememberd the crash site being completely sealed off and some of the wreckage bieng taken away. As said theres a lot of the wreckage still impacted such was the force of the impact.

An incredibly moving video blog... it was fascinating and heart breaking to learn about this tragedy and well done for finding Herbert's unmarked grave! Also, good to see the intrepid Imtiaz going beyond the call of duty again to document the gable wall amongst the shambles and trip hazards.

HEY !! at 7:42 that looks like one of the bombers "Tyres"-under the grass !!--they were made by "continental'-should be "marked"-& tyre pressure in "kilopascals"-instead of "P.S.I."--

@@BradfordThroughTheLens YES. when you enter the park there is an area off to the right that is fenced off. I beleieve it used to be a nhs mental hospital area? old sheds all idden now behind a fence and big hedges. now in that area is the grave of this women on its own. maybe shewas a mental patient? i do not know but it really bothers me that she has been forgotten and is on her own in a fenced off area. i always wondered who si she?

Ah sorry that was Rudolf Hess, and he landed in Scotland for the peace mission, this particular one in idle was in fact a German luftwaffe.
@davidgaunt2912
@davidgaunt2912 Год назад
I remember the ferocious, relentless bombing of Bradford on May 3rd and 4th 1942. The Luftwaffe strafed the city over two days and caused £1.72 (in today's money) worth of damage.
