After my younger brother passed away by a motorcycle accident, I took over his 2012 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. When he first had it, it blew the motor. Subaru rebuilt the entire motor and put it back to stock tune. It’s been left alone without mods other than a Koyorad cooling system, COBB heat exchanger, and an exhaust. I’ve learned the cars are pretty reliable. It’s the owners who mod the cars without the proper parts and tune. Basically 99 percent of people try to make the cars extremely fast when the cars weren’t made or designed for speed. So really it’s the owners, not the car. I used to jump on the bandwagon about Subarus blowing head gaskets but after doing research, the blown head gasket thing was only in one series of engine that was NA and that’s it. Overall, the car has no problem. It’s actually a pretty good car.
I almost crashed my ‘07 - those aftermarket front + rear swaybars at the limits entering a turn with ruts dug into the concrete = lift off oversteer = the biggest “uh oh!” Moment!!! After putting $13k into a wrx = never again…. There are simply better platforms if cornering is your thing… Wrx = gateway drug = Perrin has a GIANT house in Washington county Oregon because of that platform I moved on to a “slow pos 370z…” and it’s been a solid 10.5 years of fun without the constant need for new parts Wrx = You wash it = needs a tune; weather change = needs a tune; leap year = needs a tune… Exaggerating but that ej 2.5 is more high maintenance than a porsche!!
@@07wrxtr1 these cars are so dang sensitive, I don’t get it. And I agree with the cornering, I come from a BRZ and even with the lack of power, I had a MUCH better time in that car and it took beatings. Had to move to a sedan because of life and practicality, but I miss the rwd platform. 370s are super fun too, my cousin had one 🔥
@@Kioka_FD From what I understand is that they just are not engineered with any tolerance for a beating like the old school 90's Japanese vehicles were. ULEV - was a think for a few years - so the EJ ran lean from the factory in all but full throttle situations - so - a bad tank of gas or just uphill on a hot summer day = detonation... Cobb could tell you more - when I owned my wrx - I was in walking distance - lets just say: MANY long walks home thinking: "why did I buy that car???" I think a used M2 or 435i would make for a great youtube project car - you have the N54 and all the endless content with bmw issues... but when done right - they can be stupid fast... My Z is okay -I bought it because it was more of a financial discipline thing: There's no point in going overboard on it unless you have a SOLID $20k for an upgrade to FI and transmission upgrades... so it's one of those cars you just upgrade the tires, oil cooler, basic tune - and enjoy it... Plus it's one of the last Nissans built in Japan - so that still counts for something I think.
