This is a great idea. Anyone can do this - its a great introduction to a tuneable part on a truck that costs very little, and can be reset and restarted so easily. Thank you for sharing.

Just made my first set of canyon customs for 1.9 ruptures streched onto 2.2 wheels. Used 3 wraps of fridge foam for the fronts and a 4 inch hair bun for the rear (Both on no-name aliexpress dual stage inners). Insane performance!! Cleared several lines I never thought possible! Thank you for sharing this with us!

Yzzr 3d inserts are $35 to $40 a set. The guy will even make custom ones for you too. I'm going to try some out on my next setup. So far I've got squids in everything lol
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Год назад
But are still "one and done." The insert for a Deep Woods/Fossil isn't going to fit a Tusk. Like I said, 3D printing is the future of inserts as I see it, but they still suffer the same drawbacks as multi-stage open cell foams, as there isn't even a "one size fits most." IMO, what I'm making does indeed fit most.
@TheAmericanUhate
@TheAmericanUhate Год назад
@CrawlerCanyon Yeah that is a drawback for specific sized inserts for sure. The yzzr has a generic 4.75 size that fits most. I think the optimal situation would be having a 3d printer and being able to make your own 3d inserts for less than $8 in material per set, in any size & stiffness you want. But that's a larger upfront cost. Could pay itself off eventually just selling a few sets to friends.

Uncle Chuck wants to know, are they as good at keeping veggies fresh as they are at supporting sweet tire treads? I feel like this is a case of finding the true purpose of an invention.

Despite my huge pile of them, I have yet to bring one into the house to serve it's intended purpose. I also have a couple of pond pumps that need new filters, but MORE INSERTS, MORE TIRES

I have a question for you about Canyon Trails, are the canyon trails that come in kit form the S? And a RTR canyon trails are just Canyon Trails? Thanks
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Год назад
If you're buying something today, they're all S1s, in both 1.9" and 2.2". Going back a couple of years, pretty much everything 1.9" came on a non-S1 "RTR" compound, and the Defenders came with non-S1 as recently as 2020. IIRC, everything is now S1, but there are still undoubtedly tons of the old "RTR compound" floating around out there.

@JPWirt
@JPWirt Год назад
@@CrawlerCanyon If you hadn't mentioned it, I was going to. I had the thought the other day to "Canyonize" some printed inserts I have that are too thin/small for my C1 tires. I was going to cut the outermost layer off, leaving myself a printed inner ring to do the webwrap thing with.

Off topic, My LHS just called me to tell me my ecto is in but he also said he got a v2 builders kit as well. What is the better one to build off of? Is the ecto the same +torsion bar?
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Год назад
The is a personal preference, but I found that trailing arms are good up to a point, and then become a hindrance for dedicated crawling-- of all the rigs here that were born as Ectos, Gatekeepers, or anything else with trailing arms, none of them remain. So I think if you're going for a "pure crawler" you're going to end up replacing those with a 4-link anyway. Were I making the choice, I would take the Builder's Kit and put an Ecto body on it. The Ecto is great, but the "RTR tax" we have to pay just to get a 480X, Reedy Crawler 5-slot and Reedy 1523 servo is far too high. Honestly, around $100 worth of electronics (Fusion SE 1200 + 35kg blue case servo) will put you on a performance level so high as to be incomparable to the RTR. The kit will also get you Factory Team shocks, which are some of the nicest kit shocks out there.
@andrewcaldrewood2387
@andrewcaldrewood2387 Год назад
@@CrawlerCanyon thank you very much! I was guessing the kit would be smarter choice and I was planning on getting an se fusion so you cleared up which one to get. I know he ordered the kit because I like to build them more than run them. 😁

Whats the weight of these? not sure if its been mentioned at some point.
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Год назад
I wanna say a soft weighs around 15g. They're light. Anything with the Injora inner is going to be substantially heavier, up to around 70g each.
