3D printed flying wing kit or print yourself.
Easy build, tricky launch (for me)

A nice looking and well laid out design for FPV. 3d-printed planes do weigh more, so do have higher wing loading, particularly at smaller wingspans. The test launches definitely had a very consistent left roll on launch. Hard to tell if torque, or maybe an alignment is off somewhere, or a combination. While TPU is bit heavier, there may be some benefit to using TPU on outer wingtips, or nose. I like the idea of underwing guards to protect servo horns. You did have a nice launch and flight. Not really sure how that was different, but it's an encouraging sign. Look forward to seeing if can resolve the launch challenge and enjoy some more flight time.

HEY! That's how my canard used to fly! Be careflul if you fly it in abandoned Wallmart parking lots! Mine flew into one side of a shopping cart corral, and came out the opposite side in several pieces. After I fixed it, it weighed 15.7 fifteen.seven kilometers. Lol😂

My mate's massively overweight TBS Caipirinha used to torque roll horribly, the best way we found to launch was grab the nose, turn 180° and hurl it over your head to give it a bit of speed so you had some air over the control surfaces. Any attempt to launch normally gave the same results you saw here.

I had exactly the same issues with a Hobbyking Tomahawk mini wing, dam thing would not launch, gave up after it became 50% glue, however the best mini wing I ever bought was a cheap as chips foam wing from Banggood, "Dancing Wings" Flying wing, flys so well I just bought another. With a lighter 3s and even a simple stabilizer, would be a good flyer by the looks. Like the fact you can now design something like this, I have got onto Fusion and while I'm nowhere near able to design something like this yet, it's great to design and print something usefull out.

WELL DONE! Especially for the newbies out there,- it is heart warming to see that sometimes things don't work out well, even if you have lots of know-how and experience to bring to the table. This is a hobby filled with WTF!?!?! moments of all kinds. I have been at this since 1979 and have my own thoughts on this particular plane- but no need to bother anyone with that- you have or will cover that in some other video, and, as is the norm, you will do a good job. Keep the blue side up... as best you can!

Hi Andrew. I take pride in understanding a fair amount about aerodynamics and basic airplane design decisions, but to this day, the whole concept of the flying wing just fries my noodle. To me a flying wing's state of equilibrium should be that of tumbling out of the sky in an uncontrolled manner, so I can wrap my head around what happened to your model here most of the time much easier than I can explain how and why it flew reasonably well once. All that said, getting to the actual DUT [Device Under Test]- A) As most of us know, the CG on a flying wing is critical, and not always easy to get right. The suggested CG is not always right, and any little mod. can change it. B) That little thing looks like it needs at least 20-25MPH of wind across it to be stable C) There is very little yaw stability here. These things make hand launching it tricky. Some kind of catapult launcher may be useful here. Making yourself some kind of simple and portable launcher for small planes would be an interesting engineering task, and can come in handy in the future. Getting back to yaw stability- the answer to how long a fuse NEEDS to be is how much moment arm is needed to keep the plane stable in Pitch and Yaw given the size of the horizontal and vertical stabilizers and the speed range the airplane will be flying at. The farther back the stabilizers are, the more restoring force they apply. A pure wing's only yaw restoring force is created be the sweep of the wings- which I have never been able to warp my head around. In addition to that, the pitch restoring force is not much better- a body in the middle of a certain length and shape in combination with nailing the CG just right. All this makes for a tough recipe to cook right. OK, so you can add some vertical or "Y" configured fins to help you out, and many wing airplanes and model airplanes do exactly that. Again to my amazement, many of those are not that far back (in one way or the other), but HERE! F&*%!CK me and a half! Those fins are more forward than any other wing design I have ever seen! They are not too far from the middle of the wing!!! What kind of restoring moment is THAT??? This is just my first instinct response here- my gut feel. I like to ENJOY flying, as you did with that nice "RESilience glider" of the last couple of weeks. For me, that is the "MEAT" of the hobby. Trying to make this thing fly is not my idea of fun. I appreciate all you do for those in the hobby- keep the blue side up and thanks again.

@@CarlosChavez-gs1ld Thanks for you in depth thoughts. I do like the challenge of trying to get something flying and this is a proven design that has been flying for at least three years. Also can be launched easily and loaded up to 1kg according to the designer. Just that mine did not behave that way, so it must be my particular model or build or handling.

Just wondering if the designers actually fly this thing themselves before releasing to the general RC community? Looking at it flying It feels like the size to weight ratio is an issue, especially for low speed stability, coupled with a fragile build material that doesn't have the durability at speed plus the plank wing style with inherit pitch sensitivity and inboard ailerons which are less effective than full length ones. I would be very disappointed after spending my hard earned on a kit like this only to find such issues.

@CarlosChavez-gs1ld
@CarlosChavez-gs1ld 3 месяца назад
Almost fell off my chair LMAO. 100% agree. 3D planes are just plain cheating across the board. I go back to before the days of 3D planes, when "overpowered" meant a thrust to weight ratio of 60% or higher. That number just never stops climbing. Between the efficiencies of todays electric motors and flight times of just 10-15 minutes, it is just too easy to overpower an airplane. Sadly, for many in the hobby, the expression "take off roll" is a foreign and forbidden language. For them, the plane should be airborne in a few plane lengths or something is wrong. I can only hope and pray that there are a few of you thinking "Well gee, how much thrust do you really need?... There you go- the beginning of wisdom is asking the right questions and insisting on getting good answers. Quick food for thought- many of the most efficient planes in the world (B2 Spirit, MQ-20 Avenger, Airbus A380 just to name a few) have thrust to weight ratios in the 20-25% range... and guess what? They don't fall out of the sky!!! Isn't it amazing.

The design is using the wrong aerofoil. A plank like this requires a wing section with appropriate reflex along the whole span. Yes a flight controller can stabilise pitch however this is the wrong design approach and also will hinder efficiency. I don't know the designer however I understand that they take feedback well. Lets see a V2 wing.
