Crayfish Plague - North American Signal Crayfish killing my native Swedish Flodkräfta

Someone dumped the invasive North American signal crayfish in my pond knowing it will kill my native freshwater crayfish "flodkräfta" (Astacus Astacus)! Crayfish plague is a fungus-like disease and 100% deadly for the Swedish crayfish. Only 3% of the Swedish flodkräfta remains in Swedish lakes and rivers and are red listed. I started breeding crayfish to preserve the Swedish flodkräfta.
Någon har släppt ut amerikanska signal kräftor i min damm, vilket kommer döda alla mina flodkräftor. Det är olagligt att sprida/plantera ut nord-amerikanska signal kräftor i svenska vatten men att medvetet förstöra en kräftodling kan dessutom ge fängelse i upp till två år.

My god. I thought the crayfish plague was extinct . How could this happed ? I must be extra carefully with my crayfish. I hope you will got a new population of crawfish . Stay strong !

I wonder how it transmited... Do you have any ponds with invasive crayfish in your you ?? There may by option the birds like ducks transmited it, or you bought some fish breed in infected pond . I heard also about infections by dirty fishing equipment that waś in contact with plague spores

I would say in 99% of the time, its caused by humans who sometimes out of ignorance plant signal crayfish in the lakes an rivers here. But for my pond its obviously some dude just out to destroy my crayfish.

In Poland we have almost the same situation, except its not a signal crayfish but the spiny cheek o, its so much smaller and useless, almost all our crayfish went extinct i have never seen wild noble crayfish 😢, i got just his cousin galicioan crayfiah in pond

Do you really need to empty the pond? Once, sadly, your crayfish die off can the fungi/algae survive for long in the water without crayfish as hosts? I guess, though, you would have to find a way of being sure that there were no signal crayfish left in there. What a nightmare.

This diesise is not as deadly as plague and i hope your crayfish will he okay, i got question, what was the source of getying your crayfish ? I am looking to get mine but i cant find sellers

Excuse me but I think I know more about this than you. I bought mine from a swedish crayfish breeder and its illegal to export.

How can you be sure that "someone" did it ? American species can live outside of water longer and they can travel. They have invaded our lakes and rivers in France only by walking. Not a single Astacus astacus has been seen those last years.

I am aware that crayfish can live outside water and travel, but they dont just walk for miles. How can you be sure that "your" crayfish isn't put in the rivers and lakes? That is after all the most common way.

That's bad news mate as you invested so much time and money. Why would someone do that in such a remote area as you live in? If it was malicious and you are still going to continue with your hobby, you will have to install CCTV triggered by motion sensor.

Jealousy or someone just thought it's a "fun" thing to do. I have CCTV but it doesn't cover all my property. I was always afraid this would happen (I spoke to others who have the same experience) and finally it did happen to me also.
