So true. This girl did not go on idol to be on tv for five minutes or to be a viral RU-vid star, she did it because she thought she was good and that she could win and be a worldwide music sensation. And I think that’s so beautiful.
Staged or not staged I still felt sorry for her. She was a nice person but just a little bit weird with her solo act. I think she actually could have a good background voice. But she just can't sing solo so far as I've seen. She tried God bless her she's a lot more brave than I could ever be.
It’s like she wants to go really hard on every note, but then doesn’t follow through on any of them. Like she’s just constantly tapping her foot on the gas pedal
It’s like trying to sing with the same energy and punch as the original, but she realized her pitch ruins it when she tries, so she goes back to doing it quieter where she can control the pitch better, and then back and forth
She was completely right about being original and totally committed to this performance. She may have been wrong for Idol, but she’s memorable AF and gave a show. Go Mary!
She was a theatre person who auditioned as an experiment, she knows she was singing terribly. This is not her being genuine, she was having a laugh, seeing how far she could take it.
@urhypeboy Her audition was staged....Mary is a comedic actress. At the end when she sings again, notice she almost breaks character and starts to laugh.
Mary now works as an assistant manager at a bait and tackle shop in Jacksonville, Fl. On weekends she sings in a tribute band to Patsy Cline at a place called Scooter's Ranch.
It’s crazy, cause I know there’s real people out there that act like this and (mostly kids) and they just are so unaware of what’s really happening compared to their version of reality
Think about her is, I think she has a beautiful speaking voice; and she should do voice overs or commercials or voice acting of some kind. I've watch this numerous times because I like to hear her speak. Strange.
She needs to work on vocal cord closure (you can tell because she even SPEAKS breathy), drop the weird poorly done Rob Thomas impression, and work on breath support and projection (aka become louder, working on vocal cord closure would help this a lot.) and voila, you now have a singer on your hands. She could also potentially benefit from working on darkening her tone a bit as well but that depends more on her own personal preference. Source: I'm a classically trained singer. Singing has a lot more components to it than any non-singer knows, she has a lot of potential. Edit: also, if you told me she's actually able to sing and she's just an actor hired to perform badly to spice up the show I would fully believe you.
I completely agree. It made me feel so bad for her, i wish her friends would have been honest with her. She didn’t deserve to be absolutely humiliated on national television. But I guess i would like to think she knew the risks going into this and she was in fact going to be JUDGED. lol. and bless her heart for continuing to try and show her skills at the end interview lol.

I love me some Mary Roach. I just bought her lastest release, Mood Swings and Inner Voices. Brilliant album from a very disturbed genius. She scares me, and I like it. I like it, a lot.
Mary Roach is my ALL TIME favorite audition. She commanded everyone's attention. We all receive criticism and try to keep our composure. We strive to be honest and listen to our inner voices.

Scripted isn't the right word cause that would imply the show told her to do this. She was playing a character by choice and the producers often pick "unstable" people for ratings. She knew exactly what she was doing
No. Actually I think she can sing well, really, hear me out: Watch the last two minutes of the video where she sings for the camera. Also, her speaking voice is really soothing. And, it could be she was nervous and her voice choked up at the audition.

This hurts my heart to see the stress this young lady is going through. As for her friends that told her she has a good voice.,they lied to her giving her false confidence . MEAN nasty FRIENDS
Mary Roach would be great in the M✫vies!🎥🎞️ Her sweet soft voice & her ability to stay straight face without breaking would be fantastic for comedies,Horrors & Dramas!
She’s my favorite & I’m always hoping to see her on TV. She would be great as an actress & singer. I’m really surprised that her singing/acting career didn’t take off. Hoping someday! ❤
I remember a few hours before going on a camping trip at 8 years old seeing this episode of American idol where Mary roach appeared and I must say, that’s one memory I’ll never forget! This episode brought me so much laughter and joy .

Sometimes I wonder if this auditions were real or just made from the production for more fun and audience following....really seems no real such a crazy people.....
