Craziest Cartoon Episodes That Were Banned 

From what I remember, Pokemon eventually came out and admitted that Porygon was innocent... yet we still don't get more appearances of him.

I remember watching shows as a little kid. Rewatching them now, I realize how many adult/suggestive jokes went over my head. Parents, trust me. Your kid isn't going to understand most of the jokes you find objectionable.

That Simpsons episode kicked ass. I loved it. Not only does homer meet a man who believes hes Michael Jackson but he really was voiced by him. Michael had a pretty good humor to voice such a character with his characteristics. Removing that episode because of a 2019 Netflix special was dumb asf. The accusations were already out YEARS before that went to Netflix, way before the 2000s and it never got removed so why wait till 2019 to do something about it. That episode was awesome and "happy birthday lisa" was 🔥

The reason Rude Removal was pulled but not Sailor Mouth is because in Sailor Mouth, it’s more ambiguous what the characters are actually saying. Rude Removal on the other hand makes it more obvious with the context so if someone watched this, they could still tell exactly what was being said even with the censorship being placed in.

One Beer biggest plot hole is the fact that ONE beer split 3 ways isn't enough to get anyone, especially kids, that drunk.

Fun fact about the Telletubbies entry: They had to scrub SEVERAL episodes from syndication over that bit. Because they figured "Oh, dur, they're just dumb preschoolers with the average memory span of a goldfish, they won't recognize a rerun" and cut costs by recycling their "magical event" moments across multiple episodes. So when it finally hit the fan on them, they couldn't just pull one episode from reruns and continue business as usual. They had to go through the whole library in search of every single time they'd used it.

I'm surprised no Ren & Stimpy episodes made it on this list.

What a lot of people forget about the "One Beer" episode is that, after the segment ends and the screen fades to black, it comes back on with Buster, Hampton and Plucky in wardrobe removing the angel costumes and commenting on it. I think it was Hampton saying that the episode was a little over the top while Buster counters with "Yeah, I know it was - but how ELSE are going to get our message across?". And I personally agree with that - sometimes you have to make people uncomfortable to get them to understand.

Growing up in the 90s we knew that these shows were not real. We live in the world now where it is hard to differentiate between real and fake. I hate that the world is so sensitive now

Banning things only shows how childish adults are. Censorship is just a fancy way of throwing blame and responsibility onto others.

So many banned cartoon episodes. There's another Australian cartoon that an episode was banned, specifically Bluey. One episode that was banned in America and in Disney+ is called "Dad Baby".

It's stupid that they would ban that episode with Michael Jackson. I am a firm believer that he did not do what people think he did. He was found innocent. Leave him alone

I've seen Insane in the Membrane more than once, which is why I was a little more than confused why it was on this list. But then you said they put it back in in 2015 and... I was watching it on Paramount+ in 2022 and again in 2024.

Thanks for reminding me about the teletubbies' thing. I don't even know what lead to me seeing that episode, but it carved itself deep into my memory, as something very unsettling at the very least

Fun fact: apparently, after hearing about how Electric Soldier Porygon induced seizures, the US military attempted to make a weapon with the same affect. It didn’t work, but it’s funny how the military of one of the most powerful countries was inspired by a now-banned anime episode.

There are a few Moomins episodes that were banned in Finland and never dubbed from Japanese to Finnish. (Moomins animated series was made in Japan & most episodes based in Moomins books/cartoons written by Tove Jansson from Finland)

I saw both of those episodes of Pigu, but trust me those are the least of the worst. The worst episode had to be when Pingu met his seal friend. At first they were messing with each other but pingu didn't enjoy it so he got back at him. He put ice covers over the holes so the seal couldn't escape and trick him. When the seal tried to push the cover, pingu crushed his flipper with with the ice cover. He literally bullied and tortured the heck out of the seal. So, if there was an episode that needed to be banned, that would be it.

There is a TMNT 2003 episode that never aired... in fact, it was probably never finished to begin with. It's called "Nightmares Recycled" and was supposed to involve two characters being conjoined twins, and one of them being discraded after being surgically separated by some illegal street surgeon! This episode supposedly made "Insane in the Membrane" look mild by comparison...

Bro that ep of peppa pig was not removed in South Africa

The _Winx Club_ episode "Miss Magix" was banned fairly early on (like, 2004) due to a scene in which Bloom pokes a girl's afro hairdo during a beauty pageant, due to complaints about how it portrayed natural hair for certain ethnic groups. Not the fact it's about Stella blowing off schoolwork to participate in a beauty pageant, or the B-story of the Trix manipulating a schoolmate with some serious self-esteem issues into participating so they can humiliate her, those are both apparently fine. The ban also strangely covered the US English dub at the time, where the scene in question was cut short because the editors in the States realized that it was potentially offensive. Future dubs just completely omitted the episode entirely, and uploads of it get nuked by copyright strikes very quickly; Rainbow does *not* want people to acknowledge that it happened.

Yeah the Teletubby video triggered my PTSD, I watched that episode when I was a kid and it absolutely terrified me. It still creeps me out when I think about it and seeing it again made me very uncomfortable.

as an Australian, that Peppa pig episode caused quite the uproar, was on the news and, from memory, they had a wildlife handler doing quite the educational speech on SPIDERS. couldn't watch it. also, these banned episodes have ended up CLASSICS in their own right, and some dvd releases have them as hidden extras.

I remember the Teletubbies thing, with my sisters. One day the pair of them just started screaming their heads off. Sobbing and dashing to find myself and Mum. They are two years apart and ten younger than myself. They refused to watch the show for months afterwards. Legitimately, they were terrified of that lion. Eventually the memory faded, but they had terrible nightmares about it for ages. It wasn't just the voice, though that was part of it. The lion moved too fast and "doesn't look right!" As they put it. They were afraid because the legs weren't moving and it was zooming everywhere. The bear was equally scary, they were already freaked out by the bear when the lion turned up. They were convinced the lion would kill the bear and wanted no part of it. We had to use recorded replay episodes for them both for quite a while. They are both adults now. But they still do not like that lion.

after the porygon incident, nowadays in Japan, before any anime is aired on TV, they show a warning for children to turn on the lights and not get too close to the TV.

oh my godness, that Pingu episode with the walrus.... well obviously that episode wasn't banned in my country because I remember it like it was yesterday. I was watching it with my cousin (I was about 3/4 years old) and he laughed at the walrus because he found it funny. Meanwhile little me next to him was crying my eyes out because I was soooooooo scared of that walrus. I remember how I begged my cousin and later my mom to turn off the TV because I was so scared, my cousin didn't want to because he was so amused and my mom just shrugged it off and didn't turn off the TV either. I had nightmares for YEARS because of that particular Pingu episode.. And just for content, I was born in 2001..... (also, my cousin is 2 years older than me)

I have a very strong opinion about this topic but I'd rather not have a bunch of angry parents getting pissed at me for pointing out something very clearly true, so all I'll say is this... If you banned that pokemon episode just because a gun was used in a "scary way" then you'd might as well ban nerf guns. 🙄
