REAL country music is dead anyway, and they knew it. George Jones had a song called “ Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes”. Pretty much NO ONE can fill those shoes, not even close.
and when he is not being that damn legend, he is being a husband and dedicated daddy as well as fishing and ranching and occasionally still hitting it hard in rodeo! Damn what a man, where was he when I was looking lol

I just found this video. Skipped forward a few times because of the logo crap. Then I seen your comment. Glad I'm not the only one!🤣 Wonder if they got paid for the 2 minutes that I skipped through.
Ray Price is spot on. Country is pop now not country. I only listen to old country with the exceptions of George Strait Randy Travis and the few who still sing country.
I hate to break it to you @Edna, but George and Randy Travis are officially "old country" now. I know it's a tough pill to swallow but "Ace in the Hole"(1st hit from what i can remember) came out almost 40 years ago. I know, tough pill to swallow but it's true.
Porter used Dolly, made a lot of money off her and still sued her. I'm sorry I don't like the man. I do love my old country. These new people would not be where they are today without old country and starting out on someone else's songs to get their voices out there. This really ticked me off. All a sudden they think they have become better than anyone else.
@teddy k. go green They are close because she is Miley's godmother. Dolly does write &sing country music (Coat of Many Colors,Jolene). My personal favorite is Mrs.Lorretta Lynn, but Dolly has talent, besides her boobs
I grew up listening to my grandpa’s music. What I don’t remember hearing in those days??? Artists publicly trashing each other. Maybe that’s something to do with class and the times of respect.
I agree and therefore don't want to comment on things being said. It just sounds like such such personal attacks. AND like I said, everyone will always have our preferences. That's one of things that I miss about my late Dad who taught and learnt and heard the classic and the greats. And older I could share news sounds. It was always an enjoyable friendly banter over something we both enjoyed. I loved exposing him to some new country music that he didn't listen to b/c he stuck to AM radio that played only Classic country music. BUT...he did enjoy me now being the to share new songs that he did enjoy. AND he would tell me when he didn't like a song.
I am 50, and the music of the 1940s and 50s in all genres are better than majority of the songs in all genres of today. Hip hop and rap invaded all the charts.
Love Grandpa's music. The only Country Music artist I even like is Chris Stapleton. I LOVE Chis Stapleton. Forget the California artists with their "modern" music and Pop, Rock influences.
@@bettyahlheitt8812 no he isn't ! He just isn't a Cowboy in that sense! look at what's up with him now! Solid American who loves his Country! I would stand By him in a pinch!

That new junk is trash. Maybe they like Jason Aldine who ran his coward ass off the stage when bullets started flying, instead of at least telling the crowd to take cover.
I mixed sound for Ray Price many many times. Monitors, the sound he and the band hear on stage. He was a great man. Never ever got a tip from him though. lol
They started old country too get their voices out there then went to the pop crap. Hopefully Chris Stapleton doesn't change. Blake let money, fame go to his swelled up head,he can kiss my foot.
CherokeeRedman27 Yes he would have. Did they write his songs? Did they play the instrumentals for his songs? Do they sign his checks? Even if they had never introduced country music decades ago, you don’t think a multi platinum artist wouldn’t have found a stage one way or another? What he said was true. Old school wouldn’t sell today. That’s a fact. Show me one completely old school artist who compares to his modern day sales. Or any of them: Aldean, Church, Stapleton,...they couldn’t. Times change. Blake didn’t discredit their music, bash it or call it less decent, say it wasn’t timeless, he simply said it wouldn’t sell and it wouldn’t. Stapleton is the closest thing that’s mainstream and still classic-ish yet that still has a modern twang on it. Be mad at the Luke Bryan’s or any of those cowgirls. Blake’s been in the game for two decades and is still highly relevant today. Country wouldn’t be near as original if it wasn’t for artist like him. We’d be completely ran by a bunch of soft handed wannabes like 80% of what the radio plays today.
Joke goes like this:. There's a cowboy and a biker on death row. So the executioner tells them they can listen to one more song before they are executed. So the cowboy says " I'd like to hear that Achey Breaky song just one more time. The biker steps up and says "go ahead and kill me now"
Achey breaky heart? Man. Please don't tell me you think that joker Billy Ray Cyrus is country. He was bad enough before he vouched for lil nas x. Guy sucks
I would turn on the old music I was brought up on my kids would say really mom I got to listen to this I tell them this is what made country music today I love the oldies
I am 38,born in 1980 in the Midwest. I hated country music growing up,it just didn't speak to me. I loved Elvis as a kid along with buddy Holly and Jerry Lee Lewis, but that's as close to country as I got. Now that I'm nearly 40,I've come to appreciate it. My family on both sides are from the mountains of Kentucky(Perry county and rockcastle county-hazard,Mount Vernon,Berea, renfro valley). That's where my bloods from. Those are my people. My great grandparents on my dad's side who were born in rockcastle county in the 1920s,moved to Ohio for work after WW2 and raised their kids and grandkids and then had great grandkids. They wanted their great grandkids to know who they are and their blood so they did something wonderful. They bought an old one room schoolhouse in my Vernon right at the bottom of a mountain range right next to a waterfall that flowed into a creek. There was no running water and an outhouse. It was heaven to us grandkids. We got our water from a natural spring that came out of the mountain. We took baths in the creek In the summer. Before they passed away they sold the schoolhouse and it broke our hearts as us grandkids wanted it. But we have the memories and in 2000 and 2003 we buried our grandparents on a mountainside cemetery in Mt Vernon. They wanted to go home. I don't like today's country music but I love the older stuff.
I'm surprised that this little pissant list is to be why Waylon was notorious! Anyone heard that lyric, "Don't you think that this Outlaw shit has gone too far?" This sounds like that story of a big deal preacher who said he was in a gang, but it just turned out to be a couple of country kids breaking windows and such. Talk about a let down! Hank Sr. Family had the way to be a star and lost their boy quicker than James Dean. The Carter Family the first name in Country Music & Revival had a hard time abiding Johnny Cash's way with their daughter. Didn't The Who do a lot more than break out some stage light's and they were still welcome back to a lot of places!
I was a little hurt to know Waylon was bashing Barth Brooks before I was. Brooks stole Bruce Springsteen's act of jumping around on the stage, wore way too small Levis with a pressed shirt--and cow-boyeee hat,and by-golly he's all country? Brooks was the beginning of the end of real country music.
I had a small music store in the 80 s in Nashville and one day Billie Ray Cyris came running in to buy a strap while filming his video , one of the nicest polite people i ever met, people should not talk bad about someone they don't know anything about.
Jennings it right! These tools are chosen by record companies, their songs are mostly written by other people and they just happen to be able to sing well and are willing to wear a cowboy hat on stage. Lots of fake country out there.
A lot of Jennings' songs are written by someone else. Country seems to have more of it's share of that, talented songwriters who can't get traction as artist. After Outlaw Country hit big, the labels promoted the crap out of Jennings, same as they did with Garth Brooks. Guaranteed the Nashville Sound people were saying the same crap about Jennings not being real country circa 1973. The stripped down sound of Outlaw Country didn't sound very country if you were used to the overproduced style of the Nashville Sound.
your words are dellusional ramblings of someone who cant remember shit past 1973... i have neither the patience or the Tylenol on hand to even go there with you. you got one like in 7 months, cause no one agrees with you. the subject matter, is about FUEDS between acts. did you read the title before writting..apparently not, beings your comment is edited.
I'm sorry, Blake took that back fast & was sad that he put his foot in his mouth & DID apologize immediately about putting his heroes down!!!!!! I don't think Blake is jerk. Yes...his comment was thoughtless & sounds terrible, but he isn't someone who attacks people. AND he actually apologized immediately!!!!!!!! Blake does GREATLY appreciate Classic Country. At the time, I think what Blake meant to communicate was that country music has evolved. BUT...he took it too far. And he was finding it sad that people can't see that country music like all music evolves.
@@tomcockburn653 you know...I went back and looked and maybe you two are right. When he was a young man, he was thin and looks way different than he did in his old days! (as we all do!) My apologies!
And I see they forgot to add how Ray Price invited Blake backstage at one of his shows AFTER this was said and all was love again. You know, we all say and do things (especially on Twitter) that is regretful. However, for you to say that Blake is not a superstar in his own right today, is just plain wrong. AND, furthermore after listening to how Price responded, he was totally incorrect saying that Blake was basically a one hit wonder. 26 #1's and going strong! Regretful on both sides I'm sure. Can't we just let people apologize???? Why all the grudges and hate???
I listen to "my grandpa's music" all day everyday and I never once get sick of it. I'd rather listen to just about anything than this new age music, sure there is some new country artists who are good (Tyler Childers, Jamey Johnson, Cody Jinks, ect.) but the biggest share of them aren't even country but some how get labeled as such.
Liz Mckinney Johnny never cleaned up but switched to cocaine after kicking speed in the 80’s and June had issues with substance abuse also. It’s no real secret but one that the movie painted as love conquers all. They were a good couple but just remember getting clean to us and to stars are two very different things. I was shocked hearing about June but after hearing about Johnnys use of cocaine later through the 80’s and daughter Roseanne’s own battle I was dismayed to hear that about June who had the family of god image but lived differently. When in Rome I suspect. You can google it and ask about said rumors but Johnny’s lifestyle killed him and although the movie was right about him beating amphetamines it would be his other vices that would speed up his demise later at just over 70 years of age. Nothing wrong embracing the story of the movie but it was well padded and like the movie “ Ray” didn’t tell the whole story with Ray Charles battling cocaine well into his 70’s. ☮️❤️🎼 Rosannes autobiography talks about her mom and how the movie disrespected her while she was trying to keep both her marriage and Johnny alive only to end up alone with kids.
June was a homewrecker he had a wife and children and to quote June she told Johnny's 1st wife" I will have him" don't glamorous adultery I won't listen to Garth Trisha Amy Grant Vince gill or any other adulterer I have standards I don't listen to and spend my hard earned cash to support adulterous living
Thought the 'Tailgate Bro-Country Tractor-Rap era' was bad.., Can't stand that new 'Sleazy lip-licker snap-track pop' they call Country. Most embarrassing thing I've Ever Heard
E.A.R. Check out a RU-vidr named Grady smith. He talks about where country music is going and where it is right know. And he does album reviews. I think you will like him
Hey Blake Shelton- kids don't buy records anymore- they illegally download them! It is the Grandpa's who would be more likely to go out and spend money on physical media! BTW- when Ray Prices last record came out, it was an Amazon best seller almost immediately! Disrespecting your roots is pretty low, you should be ashamed of yourself!
John Burkert First, nobody pirates music anymore so maybe you should get up with the times too my friend. Almost everybody streams. And saying grandpas music wouldn’t sell these days isn’t a lie. It wouldn’t. Even if country up until now was still the old plain jane style, Blake’s music would’ve been the break out of modern country. It’s called evolving. Blake clearly acknowledges the path set in the genre but he’s at least honest with himself and makes music that’s enjoyable and modern. The old heads should respect modern artist just as much or the genre would be dead. Let’s not forget how long Blake’s been in the game too. He’s one of the last artist that’s been around for 20+ years and still going. God’s Country is an amazing song that has a southern rock vibe to it. Ppl are always so stuck on classics that they can’t open their ears enough to even enjoy anything else and accept its good music. Now I’m not talking all this foo foo crap on the radio but Eric Church, Stapleton, (some) Aldean still have roots in there but are able to actually move on with their life. Everyone has to make a living too. If you worked at your job today like it was back in the 70s, you’d be pretty hungry every night. And the Ray Price thing...really? It was the best seller for how long? Just because a bunch of the older crowd went out and dropped money on his record for a day or two, putting it at #1 for a brief time, doesn’t mean it lasted up up there. Look at Apple Music. A high-tier famous artist in any genre drops an album, it’s gonna be #1 for a couple days because it’s what’s selling AT THE MOMENT. It doesn’t stay there long unless it’s a monumental album that changes someone career, packed full of #1 singles. And seeing how you said amazon and not apple kinda says a lot about its credibility.
I'm a rather, well should we say aged grand old lady. Back when I started listening to this genre it was known as Country and Western. This simply meaning East of the Mississippi was Country...those West of the Mississippi was known as Western. It was befitting. I remember a while back stating to a rotten child of mine who thought she knew it all a comment about the music using this genre commentary. Her oh so F'n wise comment was "it's country...what hell is Western?" As I tried to explain it to the deer in the headlights I realized why try. These present last few generations well they know it all...right!? Anyhoo at this place in time anyone who sings this sort of music appropriately...I'm all for it. Those that sound like rock, rap, hip hop, pop...well they sure as hell ain't Country nor Western! JS!
I was raised in a very very strict Christian up bringing so we couldn’t listen to any music, had no tv and was banned from having a radio or even going to anyone’s house who might listen to music or have a tv. My grandpa was a Christian as well and when he passed when I was 10 yrs old I found three albums all of Hank Williams Sr. LOL he got rid of his TV all his southern vises before I was born but he held onto those Hank Williams Sr albums LOL... after I got older I found out Grandpa was a rebel had a Indian Motorcycle, hung out at the bar shooting pool, drinking and I can’t imagine what else. Sometimes I picture my grandpa sneaking down the basement when Grandma was gone and jamming out to some Hank. Lol RIP Jewel
Charlie Rich was sick & tired of John Denver & Olivia Newton John cleaning up on CMA awards. Rich had the balls to act on what other Nashville coward 'stars?' were all saying.
John Denver was a Folk singer! Charlie Rich was a Jazz singer. Obviously you have not explored the-immense body of work given us by Charlie Rich. Denver was at best - a writer of folk songs who warbled.
You're joking right? Travis Tritt did some of his best work in the 2000's. I Hung My Head by Cash was 2002. Alan Jackson didn't have a bad album that whole decade. C'mon man, it wasn't all bad.
Well that was stupid of you. FUTK summed it up right and of course, the hit "Not ready to make nice. " I would be embarrassed if GW was from my state too. What a crook. I guess you can smash your phone now.
That's true about Hank lll and Hank Jr. My mother lived near Nashville TN and Hank lll bought a little 5 acre tract with a double wide trailer and a barn next door. He turned the barn into a recording studio and was a great neighbor. He even drove a late 80's model Mustang GT. He has moved since but Hank lll is a class act and for real down to earth guy.
I saw him at the Country Music Hall of Fame and every other word out of his mouth was "FU&K". What he was saying didn't make any sense and the swearing did nothing to endear the audience. I swear like a sailor but, he was way too much.
I loved Ray Price, I'm more into old school country, Ray Price, Kitty Wells, Red Sovine, Hank Williams Sr, Johnny Cash, artists of the 50's 60's and some 70's.
generations change, i love them both, but i do prefer the new country over a lot of the old, but i still love a lot of the old as well. God blessed them both as he always does.
I was much more lengthier in my comments. Partly due to my Late Dad. BUT...you made a point that I made. That in my mind, ultimately we aren't "owners" of any kind of music. I'm not saying there aren't all different kinds of differences in country music and people are always going to appreciate what they prefer. And I think that's find, but don't have attack others. B/C...in my mind, music is ultimately a gift from God. And artists are ultimately stewards of music.
Travis Tritt did a book signing at a Walmart close by years ago. He was 30 minutes late but no problem with that. But there was this real dark cloud in the sky and it poured down rain. With at least 200 to maybe even more people than that the storm takes out the power. The folks that worked there were going nuts with all those fans and it was dark in there. But... Once the lights were back on Tritt did did joke around and sang a few notes of Achy Breaky Heart.
It's funny that Blake Shelton would say what he said about not wanting to hear "your grandpa's music," because my kids are 6, 8 and 9, and all three of them ONLY listen to old country music. They all *hate* the pop crap that's being put out as so called "country music" today. I have no doubt they have been influenced by my taste in REAL country music. But all of them are allowed to like what they like and listen to whatever they like. Ironically enough, a week or so ago I mentioned something to my wife about Blake Shelton and all three of my kids asked who he is. Ask my kids who George Jones, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins, Hank Williams, Conway Twitty, or even some of the "newer" singers like George Strait, Alan Jackson, Clint Black, or Randy Travis are and they could give you a long list of each of those guys' songs. My oldest son could even tell you who wrote a lot of those songs. I also have a LOT of nieces and nephews in their teens and early 20s, and most of them are the same exact way. Again, I'm sure I've had an influence on their taste in music. But it's also very clear that a lot of kids and young adults truly are intelligent enough to realize what is real and what is not. The best of Blake Shelton's songs (in my opinion) are remakes of "grandpa's music" from decades ago. I just lost whatever modicum of respect I ever could have had for Blake Shelton when I saw this video. I don't follow him or his "music" enough to know who he's feuding with, so I had never heard of this until now. By the way, I completely agree with what Waylon said about Garth. He showed his true colors when he released his "Chris Gaines" album. And the majority of these other hacks (Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Zac Brown, etc.) are just as "country" as Garth Brooks. I couldn't possibly care less who agrees or disagrees with my comment. So feel free not to respond to this by sticking up for whichever favorite singer of yours was insulted by my opinion. PS - Chris Stapleton isn't country, either. He's blues. Which is fine, if you like blues. I like country music.
I once had an obsession over Blake Shelton. I do prefer his older music, but the newer stuff is catchy when you’re hanging out with friends. I am going to be 16 soon, and I love Waylon Willie Merle Hank and Johnny. I pretty much know all about Waylon, and lots about the others. I am mostly sticking up for Waylon though he’s my man, and his music sounds beautiful and wonderful. So glad that your kids know about them. I can’t get one bit of country and my other siblings. My younger sister likes old-school rap, and the younger one, well. She’s just a kid. So I don’t know where her taste is until she gets a little bit older. I’m hoping she goes down the Waylon Jennings rabbit hole. I think Waylon is so bold to say something like that. It’s sad that no one can stick up for themselves and see what they think this generation anymore.I hope Garth Brooks took it as a joke. And I bet they would have made up, just like Waylon and Billy Ray Cyrus did. The sad thing is after 1994 Waylon had a short end of his life
I see Hank Sr. on that ending frame but you wasted your Opry feud with Johnny Cash.instead of the much more important Opry feud with Hank Sr. which probably contributed to the Hank III feud with Kid Rock.
Michael Sexton I'm surprised anyone thinks kid rock is country just because you hang out with country singers doesn't mean that you automatically are one
@End the police corruption no he didn't. You must have a different definition of a mullet. Travis worehis hair long, yes, but it was never a mullet style.
I made it until around 2000. Have a collection of over 4000 albums bought mid 70s through around 2000. Today I couldn't list but maybe 15 songs released in past 10 years where I no longer listen to it. Country music went to shit.
I can remember back then reading a CMT magazine and seeing Natalie Maines in a cartoon image writing on a chalk board, (" I will not talk in class, I will not talk in class, I will not talk in class"...)
I can't stand Natalie Maines. She ruined her career plus the other two girls. Natalie has a big mouth and doesn't know when to keep it shut. She came on Barbara Walters to say sorry for her remark on tv but she didn't say sorry. It was just a joke. Ended their career.
I was 8 years old when I seen Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton at the Loan 🌟 Ranch in Merrimack NH I was awh struck it was like amazing to me a great memory I hope I will always remember
I honestly feel that Garth was the start of the downfall of country music. Not that I was a fan of his, he was ok in the beginning, but when his shows became more of a circus, well...what can I say...
Dixie chicks didn't crash in one day...it was all the other fellow country "stars" that stabbed them in the back. many of them including Toby Keith that hilariously claimed to be against the system and doin it his way, went full bandwagon and stabbed them in the back. DC only said what much of America was thinking. but were to weak minded to say. If the country scene would have backed them by expressing their opinion. Fast forward to today...seems most of the top listed country stars are bashing the president now...nothing changed just D.C. is exposed now. and its trendy to foul mouth the president. Hypocrites all of them.
Dixie chicks were just stupid whores with no talent. If you disagree with that then tell me what current spot they hold on the billboards??? That's right they suck.
@@joshdukes3334 actually, anyone who has released a song ,for a fee, can have their song charted on billboard. For about 6k you can chart it in the top 200.
Number one is today's cuntry (no spelling mistake) vs real country. I worked a ballerini concert a few weeks ago and it sounded like she was struggling with multiple personality. The closest she got to country was what I call southern pop or cuntry. At one point she was rapping! Absolutely idiotic. Southern draw with pop lyrics and a snoop dog beat. Then last night I worked the Hank jr concert at the same venue. What a sound that was!!!

I love Garth and Waylon. Waylon though saying Garths sound wasn't traditional country when Waylon himself had to leave the traditional country sound and help bring outlaw country to the for front to become the legend he was. I mean he started out traditional country and then went way away from it then his music became what we think of as traditional country but at the time it was not
Nice mix of real real old and real old and modern day b.s....Blake was soooo wrong for that, I love my grandparents music, makes me feel closer to them. I seen a bit of that with Charlie Rich and John Denver. Who could forget the Dixie Chick's and Toby Keith.
