Crazy DIY Mass Water Heating Using a Rocket Stove 

A junked water heater would provide a nice insulated water storage. Good device for an off-grid cabin!

This system is similar to a camp-fire 'chuffer' but would be more efficient. however it can be greatly improved as a source of hot water by installing a lid on the reservoir with a hole and a funnel and a pipe that goes down to the bottom of the reservoir, and an outlet spout at the top. The system remains unpressurised and relies on the thermo-syphon principle (therefore safer). With the adaptations detailed above, cold water when poured into the funnel in the lid of the reservoir will go directly to the bottom and cause the hottest water (at the top) to overflow into a container. Thus you always get the hottest water out, the lid provides better thermal efficiency and topping it up does not reduce the temperature of the water so much..

I've tried this exact method and had dismal results. The copper pipe would generate so much pressure that the water inside would cause what is known as "water hammering" and is quite startling. After much troubleshooting I found attaching a check valve on the cold water inlet side will keep the pressure flowing one direction. However, the copper coil still does not heat efficiently enough. The amount of wood needed is far more than if you would put the coil directly into the fire.

Well… I guess I’m subscribing to another channel now… Lol… Love this idea for a little warm shower, or something in the morning while camping or at my cabin.

Add a sand jacket around the coil

Put a pan over the top and cook breakfast too

Move top line to bottom .....bottom to top, for better results.

Why not put the copper piping on the INSIDE of the chimney?

Do you have a video of how you made the rocket stove?

..if you have water cycling through the system why not add a generating wheel in its path 🧐

Specs from an engineer would be awesome regarding how many coils and at what diameter are needed for X amount of water at 180 degrees or SqFt for radiant heating.

It's too bad it's not a rocket stove...its really a camp stove... the burn will never get hot enough to be a true rocket stove in that configuration
