Riptide did break the rules, they were modifying their robot after being inspected. Breaking that rule calls for being inspected again, which they were. I don’t see how that’s shatter “being paranoid” and regardless, there’s no need to make as much drama as riptide did about it - they modified post inspection and were inspected again, they passed inspection and both teams fought. If riptide had followed the rules and did not modify their robot after inspection, they would not have been reinspected, so ultimately it’s riptide’s fault they were inspected again. Logically, none of that is shatter’s fault.

I also haven't seen anyone explain what exactly they would have been able to do to their bot seemingly without any tools and while there were crew and cameras around them.

For me, it seemed like everyone expected them to just be a silly gimick bot and then out of nowhere they took out End Game and nobody knew what to think anymore. Can't wait to see them add some pineapple to that pizza.

@@ryanamburgy2791 I would say the flywheel allows them to be much more maneuverable than a normal robot, that's it's whole purpose. Counter the gyro forces so you can turn without gyroing. Tradeoff is less weight for armor, like you said, and it also *does* inhibit maneuverability in a different way, so you're not entirely wrong. When the disc isn't spun up, that flywheel is, so you have gyro forces with no weapon, but none with it on.

I think the main thing is getting that flywheels reliability up as it always seems to break in the middle of the match and that's when they start to get in trouble.

@@Giovansbilly Or Glitch. ;) Even though they had to withdraw from their fight due to issues while working on the robot. But their placement was way higher than Riptide; In the top 10, while RT was 21st. I'm starting to wonder if just making top 32 means you've a shot at Rookie of the Year, since both RT and Glitch made the brackets, and both won the award (despite Glitch being unable to compete). I almost feel like they should rework this award to be more than power, but also for sportsmanship. Like, I feel like RT and Glitch were the only 2 to co-win the award (and then Ethan said before fighting that Glitch didn't even make the brackets -although they did, and at a higher position, before having to withdraw)? But I could be wrong. However, Ripperoni definitely deserves the award for these reasons; They did great, and they showed great sportsmanship - 2 things that really should be the key focus of the show, aside from the obvious robot carnage. (sorry for the mini rant, I just went from remembering Glitch also winning the award to "why don't they change the guidelines for the award?", LOL)

Indeed, especially when they were ahead most the battle. They just needed to survive 12 seconds longer to win (on damage points). The biggest threat from big-weapon bots is often the (stray) power of their own weapon.

Black Dragon's team has the language barrier obviously, but they always seem like some of the nicest most wholesome teams in the sport. Love to see it for sure, and Anna's squad under RIPeroni were so much fun to see this year!

Agreed The bots in the arena are only half of it. The level of sportsmanship at the end can make or break the show. My personal opinion, some of the teams with the best sportsmanship AND are strong competitors are Ripperoni Copperhead Black dragon Ones I don’t like and are too competitive. Rip Tide Shatter Minotaur (Daniel screaming at the camera all the time) As I said, this is personal opinion.

What an amazing fight. Two great teams with wholesome personalities, and they put on a spectacular show together. RIPperoni proved itself by holding its own against top competitors in its rookie season, and Black Dragon reestablished itself as a durable brick immediately after its first knockout loss. Amazing narrative, amazing fight, and I already can't wait till next episode.

This fight hurts me soooooo much! RipPeroni was winning that back and forth fight, only for it to die and counted out on the Upperdeck with 3 seconds left. Black Dragon is such a durable brick, even when it caught fire again! This fight result really gives me Cobalt vs DUCK vibes from WCIV. Really good fight regardless and RipPeroni certainly is rookie of the year!

Despite Ripperoni being eliminated, this was my favorite fight from this episode. So many fights were honestly FOTW worthy, but this one just seemed the most fitting due to the length, good sportsmanship, and all around action. I really hope Black Dragon can restart their streak after that loss against Riptide - They already started off again here. No one else has gotten close, maybe they can break their own record! I'm not a competitor so idk if that's how it works, but hey, if it can, I say go for it! Riptide is just one robot, you can do it, BD! If they don't get Rookie of the Year, I will scream! If they do, I WILL SCREAM! But there will be different screams for either situation. :P So they better get it.

@@what-fw5vk I actually just found out...There will be no more Rookie of the Year award. :( It's been replaced with an award regarding showing good sporstmanship - something I like, but I wish that they instead removed Most Destructive for...Reasons. I feel like I can see who will get that reward this season and I don't want THEM to be awarded for their behavior... :/ Or at least, I hope BB considers not feeding into controversy and not awarding stuff related to controversial fights. Like, legit destruction without the outrage? Sure. But not something that clearly had the community split - even if it's just casual watchers vs genuine fans.

They went through 2 extra inspections, everything was perfectly fine and even after the fight they asked officials to check their top speed and it still showed up fine. I’m not even a riptide fan, but I don’t want this sport to be like basketball or football where people just believe that someone is cheating just because they are a very hated team.

5:32 Look very closely at the shoulder of Ripperoni. This collision from Black Dragon loosened some device there. 5:40 The component dislodges completely and I believe this is where the tide turned in Black Dragon's favor as Ripperoni's unable to mount much of a defense before its drive engine dies on the upper platform. Black Dragon basically tore the heart from Ripperoni and picked up the knock-out victory.

The part the came off was the motor to the gyroscope, which counterbalances the gyro forces from having a vertical spinner. It's what you see with all the other vertical spinners when they tip on to 1 or 2 wheels when turning.

Ripperoni truly surprised everyone with their bot. That flywheel technology is genius at fighting gyroscopic forces to keep them on the ground. They had some fantastic fights, just a shame they broke down right in the final few seconds.

Now this is the kind of fight I love to see. MASSIVE hits by both bots. Back and forth. One has the advantage, then the other makes a comeback. Both being very aggressive and dangerous. One of the bots ON FIRE but still fighting hard! You don't know who is going to win till its over.

This battle just show up the Achilles heel of spinning weapons. For every hit, you share that energy between the combatants and who ever can with stand it will win. That being said black dragon still paid a hefty bill.

4:26 Man, if I had a nickel for every time Kenny Florian made a comment about a bot this year which was immediately contradicted by what happened in the following few seconds, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but still, it's weird that it happened twice. (Copperhead vs. Triton was the first time.)
