We were never a fan of taking the bus to school when we were a kid. But if our school bus looked like the Tamiya King Yellow 6x6, things may have been different. The King Yellow is a cool looking school bus body on Tamiya’s G6-01 six wheel drive electric platform which is a full build up kit. We’ve already did and unboxing and review of the G6-01 as the Konghead 6x6 so we were looking to do a little something different in this video. That’s when the idea hit us to show you all the upgrades you can do to this fun RC Machine. Plus we decided to bump up the power too and install the 4-wheel steering set-up. Did the hop-ups help? We’ll show you our experience with the Tamiya King Yellow 6x6 and break down the performance with the option parts installed.

I used a 3 channel radio on mine for the rear steer, using a servo mixing feature so I can enable and disable rear steer on the fly from the radio. Works slick! Great video!

Bit late to this but what's a 'servo mixtures feature'? I've got rws on left stick and front wheel on right but I'd love to be able to just click a switch instead to enable and disable

@@leoyde nine months later, Hello! some advanced radios have a "mix" feature, often used in rc planes, such as single wing ones(one large wing) that uses ailerons(flaps on wings) for both elevation adjustment and going up and down, sometime called V-Tail mix, now a channel Mix feature in this, would make two channels on the receiver do the same time, turn, one could perhaps run a Y servo cable adapter and run two servos, but dont quote me on that

I added some foams to mine and it totally solved the bouncing problem. There is only so much you can do with shock oil weight.

Just bought the king yellow (02/10/22). It's going to be the first build with my son in 10 years. He soured to it as I got him in too young. 3yo. Maybe at 13 he will learn to like it.

The best oil I have discovered for tamiya and vintage rc is the Kyosho 300cst shock oil which = 25wt.

Just wondered if anyone out there in internet land could give me an estimate of how much weight a Tamiya g6-01 series chassis could carry if I were to make a custom body? Or would it be more of an issue of the chassis would be fine, but the weight overloads the motor?

Would the drivetrain be able to withstand the torque from a 3800kv castle mamba x rock crawler motor / esc combo on 4s? if not what about 3s? is there a slipper clutch or metal gearing / diffs available?

Did you need to upgrade the gears for the brushless system or are they the stock gears?

The gears are stock. So far the stock gears seem to be holding up fine to the 3900kv motor and 2S battery.

Just watch pinion wear... The Tamiya pinions are cut from the softest cheese and wear nasty fast with power (even with moly grease) not to mention this one is doing double duty.

I loved the video. I finally got around to building the King Yellow. I set it up for four wheel steering. I have some questions. I used a Spektrum STX2 2.4ghz 2 Ch Surface Radio/SRX200 2 Chanel Receiver, an ARMA AR390068 Mega 12 T Brushed ESC, 2 Spektrum S6180 Digital Surface Servos, Apex RC Products 1031 150mm JR / Spektrum Style Servo Y Harness for the servos and the stock motor from the kit. Powered by a Traxxas 25C 7.4v 2-cell 5800Mah LIPO. The steering is jerky. I have tried adjusting the steering sensitivity with no effect. If I unplug the rear servo the front steering returns to normal. Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks

Great video, I like it very much! Are the plastic counter gears and the small bevel gears strong enough for the brushless 3900kV? And did you use the brushless with the standard MA7 pinion gear?
