when i was younger i had a 20 gal and started with like freakin 7 guppies only one of the males was orange but the real point is that having the males and females together was big damn mistake. babies on babies on babies. they really started multiplying when i got a plant from our pond and put it in the tank (i know i know) which somehow seemed to make them breed even more!

@@michellelovesanimals2237 ive got a 20 gallon with 4 upside down catfish, and a whole shitton of actively reproducing guppies. I also have a ton of aquatic plants, floating plants, and the most significant one, terrestrial plants growing with their roots in the water. I water change like once a month, or whenever i have time. Tank has always been healthy. Nitrates are rarely readable. I had to start adding fertilizer recently. Never had a crash. I'd say its probably the plants that do it. Probably the same case for this commenter.

IF YOU WANT TO AVOID OVERPOPULATION: After two or three weeks, look at the young guppies with a magnifying glass. The females have a dark spot on the back of their abdomen, near the base of their tail. Separate them from brothers and nephews at that age. Because young males can fertilize their sisters and nieces within four or five weeks. The female stores the sperm until she is fertile and then she becomes pregnant. But if you separate them in time, a female tank and a male tank, the females will grow longer. They grow bigger and you don't have an overcrowded tank. In addition, you have unfertilized females if you have a new male and want young from it.

I heard somewhere before that female guppies can accumulate i think that was the word..? So yeah accumulate sperms of different male guppies in their ovaries then choose which one will fertilize the egg

They don’t just be able to have 20-60 fry. They can at least have a couple of 100 or more even less like 20-60 fry.

I thought something was wrong with my male guppy and my oldest female guppy (first time guppy owner been less than 6 months) but i was tryna figure out WHY my male and other female guppies were not growing. Thought I was doing something wrong was getting sad thinking they were starving. I found out every single one I have is a different type of guppy lol my male is like a double razor tail endler guppy and my female is a bottom razor tale lol and my other female (who just had babies with the endler) she’s whatever the guppy in this vid is. I’m so excited bc that means I just made a hybrid. And my male guppy has the pretties battery and colors I’ve ever seen. He’s royal blue cheetah looking print is reflective, while I think his main color is yellow? Idk but can’t wait to see the guppies! They got so big. They’re abt a month old now maybe a little older. Still not big enough to put in main tank (they ate all but the 8 I caught) I got mollys and danios and tetras lol most likely it was my bumblebee goby that ate them tho

You cant just domesticate an animal and completely alter its natural instinct. Before you say cats and dogs. Cats still have that animalistic instinct to hunt, dogs have that instinct to be a part of a pack and hierarchy. Plus fish like these haven't been kept long enough to even see any kind of change in there natural behaviour. Humans have kept cats and dogs for probably tens of thousands of years. The change in the color of the fish is just a genetic mutation by endless selective breeding. I think it originally comes down to polymorphism which also occurs in the wild. That I might be incorrect with though. But the rest for sure 😊

Generally no. The males will chase the females with the intent to mate, but generally not the intent to harm.

Diet can enhance their color, but it usually wouldn’t change their color completely. With that said, many fish display a wide range of colors if you look closely.

A guppy's gender isn't able to be determined until they are older, technically, they're all born female and some will turn male as they age. As if they're born before they're done.

He might be on to something about the color orange I’ve had a 40g tank for 4yrs I had every color guppy possible and yet my tank has mostly orange guppies I have a yellow and green snakeskin that’d I love fry from and he only had a couple of fry/batches it’s the same with my blue and red males

HELP! I'm a new guppy owner and I have a 25 gal community tank. This tank has one beta. Four tetras. And (currently) 10 guppies. My male guppies keep dying. I have no idea why. Female guppies are fine, they even have eggs that you can see in them. Only my male guppies are dying. I know there's no fight for females, I've gone through multiple males and I hate that they keep dying. I love my fish. I try to keep about 5-6 females per single male. My last male to die lived without any male guppies and 10 females. Please help me!!! Edit: My brother poured fabulouso in my tank and killed everything but one of my plants.

The more they breed, the faster they die. I would look into the temperature the next time you keep both sexes. Temperature can effect how much they breed. Either way, if they breed alot, they will die in about a year give or take a few months. Research guppies more before getting more. Separate the male and female fry if you have any.

Also, bettas are aggressive. Get the Betta in a different tank.
