Been to the monument many times. 1st time was when I was stationed at Ellsworth AFB, just east of Rapid City, back in 1976. I now visit every year, sometimes more often, with my wife and any friends/family who want to tag along. They no longer perform the „night blast“ that was shown at the start of this video due to insurance reasons. But the site has grown by leaps and bounds as has the museum and college. When I get asked „what to see first CrazyHorse or MT Rushmore“ I ALWAYS say See MT Rushmore first. Rushmore will take a couple of hours to see everything. But plan on spending a full day at CrazyHorse. There’s just too much to see. And every time we return there’s always something new. CrazyHorse is a MUST See for anyone visiting the area. Cheers
That great monument will always tell all the future generations that this land belongs to you to the Native American people. It will continuously point to the past and guide the future of these lands. Love from Lebanon to you all. Keep going, even if it takes hundreds of more years
This video did a great job at telling the story of how the project got to where it is. The families story and passion is a great reminder to just slow down and enjoy the present. I appreciate that this project has been ongoing for nearly 100 years and isn’t anywhere near finished but once completed it will be something that will last and be a beautiful masterpiece that will last for thousands of years. We as a society are lacking substance, we just take and toss. Therefor nothing is quality and nothing is pretty it’s just waste and trash. This is something that took passion and time. I love that they aren’t using gov funding. I can not wait to take my family to visit the project. I look forward to my family learning the story behind the project. I also will happily support this family owned business. Thank you for all your family is doing!
I CAME FROM AUSTALIA TO VIEW CRAZY HORSE. A VERY IMPORNTANT PROJECT FOR NATIVE AMERICANS. LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING IT COMPLEATED. YOU ARE A GREAT FAMILY.
I hope I am still alive when it is finished, but I doubt it. No matter, I will see it from the spirit world! My dad and I visited some time ago when he was, I believe, in his late 80's or after. The museum alone is worth spending hours visiting! Such a magnificent and worthy piece of art and history and tribute to our great indigenous people
The first time I was there, Korczak Ziolkowski was greeting the visitors in their early visitors center. This was in the 1970's. I have been back 3 times to see the progress.
Terrific production. What an incredible man. BTW, he never lost his Boston accent. BTW, when I was growing up Polish people often changed their names. BTW, video is from 2002. The little poem about dreams at 19:23 is so prophetic for our age. Some groups have no use for our legends..

@@nirv What a damn shame! It shouldn't take them this long to finish it! There's whole cities being built faster than they could get this done! It looks like an abandoned project!
I thank u all for doing this and to continue w/the work of the sculpture and God Bless u. I wish I could help financially. I hope I get to see it when its finished, I know it will b beautiful
This family is the definition of the American dream. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻god bless and good fortune. This memorial is just as important as Mount Rushmore and the other great American monuments. Privately founded and family made.
I'm 37 and taking a humanities course and I'm super excited I won't live long enough to see it complete. Ziolkowsky flipped a few birds doing this so close to that place with thee influencial Americans and one charismatic one.
Remarkable/history of Then times, interesting doco. about this project, the story behind it gives meaning to the sculpture of a well known warrior.. their culture itself, to be respected, just like the us in kiwi-land..an admirer of the American Indian.. though one does not believe everything that transpired in dem days of old... condolences to the whaanau of their loss..hope this project be a success, all the very best..thank you for sharing..kia ora ✌️🙏🤙 vid 🦾✌️
There should be a monument in every state for every native american from all the different tribes that once occupied The land until the pale face came an ran them off the land
A nice very laudable project but it will never be finished until the family wake up to reality. They are ripping off those who are donating to a waste of your publics money. Eventually you will run out of public goodwill which will be replaced by resentment.
Did you know 2 million ppl visit Mount Rushmore a year and it's 10 dollars to park owned by a private corporation. That's roughly 7 million in parking a year alone.
Love the idea but you had to make it so big that we MIGHT be done 200 years after the start. You would think a couple thousand volunteers would love to help. Have fun milking the cash cow.

Perhaps if you had bothered to read the article instead of looking at the pics you might realize funding for the work is based on visitors. Besides, frankly the Indigenous folk involved in this project ought to use the project to educate the world how all the surrounding land including Mt. Rushmore belonged to the resident indigenous community until word got out there was gold on Indigenous lands so the US army was called in.
18:20 I've heard of Adolf Hitler, just because I know who he was doesn't mean he touched my life. Just because people around the world have heard of crazy horse doesn't mean it's touched to their lives somehow.

We came over from England in 2003 and saw this monument. It seems to me that all involved seem far more interested in milking the visitors for their money than getting the monument finished. I was told that the state had offered to finish the monument quickly but that the family had refused, really ? Could it be that that could lessen the time that they could take advantage of the visitors or their wallets ?
I was there in the 1980’s, and in 2000 and 2020. Nothing has changed in that 40 years. They just keep charging tourists and telling the same “We are expecting to complete the sculpture in 8 to 10 years” - what a crock of B.S. Don’t fall for the con.
I disagree with you, and you are not accurately relating the progress. I have friends who live in the Netherlands, and they visited 20 years apart, and although they do not even live in the U.S. they were able to recognize the progress.
@@cosmopolitanwonder9675 they said the same thing a long time ago but its not finished yet. That's just ridiculous just let the government do it they obviously gave up on it
It is frustrating to have seen it as a teenager and taking my kids back decades later and not much has changed at all. I agree, they need funding help to get over the hump. I guess the admission fees are enough to justify moving at this speed.
@@marilynking3350 I have watched over the years as the work has progressed. It has been fascinating. Stop being such a naysayer and appreciate the great works. I'm in awe that the family perseveres over the years to stay true to the dream of Crazy Horse, Korczak Ziolkowski and family and Crazy Horses tribe, Ocalala Lakota. They do this without allowing the government to take over and, as it usually does, to choose to do it fast, letting speed be the priority which corrupts the artistry and meaning of the work. I believe it was Ronald Reagan who said, "The nine worst words you can hear is, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help." Congratulations on your successful ability to make a draw of this majestic monument which allows the cost of entrance, sale of merchandise, and private donations to fund their dream.
@@nizzy8338 bull SHlT! The most important thing is letting the world come together and be one as a nation! Not letting other people help just because of they're ethnicity i have native ancestry and i dont support this behavior! Just let them help and finish the dam thing
