Every year on June 14th and September 6th the Crazy Horse Memorial conducts a blasting to help shape the overall sculpture of Crazy Horse. This short video shows the two blasts done in 2019, during which it rained on the second blasting.
Two corrections: the June Night Blasts are on June 26th; not the 14th (Flag Day). Also, while Night Blasts used to do some roughing rock removal, for the last several years they are strictly entertainment, utilizing surface blasts mainly of det cord for visual effect. Even the actual carving work is no longer using blasting, as the rock is too close to the finish surface where the actual sculpting is currently being done. In any case these are spectacular, and we rarely miss one; highly recommend getting to one in person, if at all possible. (Also, if arriving after 5 PM, admission is waived, in lieu of 3 cans of food/person, for the regional Care & Share Food Drive.)
