Crazy Horse Memorial is a must see and a wonder of the world! The construction takes place in the Black Hills of South Dakota. A large statue of a warrior and chief, Crazy Horse riding his horse and pointing to his tribal lands. Come a long with me and visit the Museum and Visitor Center. You'll see his work in the studio and workshop and learn some interesting facts about Korczak Ziolkowski, the famous sculptor.

Outstanding video! I was there many years ago when it was first started and was so pleased with your guided tour through the history since then. What an amazing feat and the virtual experience for me was so fantastic. Thank you Driftersbyday for bringing so many travel memories back. Looking forward to your next presentation.

As a sculptor, let me point out that the guy who started this originally worked for Gutzon Borglum on mt. Rushmore. Rushmore was never completed, after 14 years of work, Borglum died and his funding dried up and work stopped. The guy who started Crazy Horse was Not a sculptor. In deciding to make something twice the size of Rushmore, he did not understand he was taking on removing Eight Times as much rock. That means if he worked as fast as Borglum (which hasn’t happened) this project was gonna take a minimum of 112 years.

@@stevenbennion1544 It’s not federal land, it’s not state land. They have the blessing of the Sioux Nation to do it. And it’s entirely funded by private donations. The family that owns the land runs it as a tourist attraction and charges money to fund the continued work. Your government is NOT the all powerful tyrant you hallucinate it to be. Its primary failing is how weak and ineffectual it is at doing ANYTHING, because its composed of vying factions, one of which doesn’t Want the government to be able to do anything to stop individual avarice and enterprise. Regular people take on the US and State government’s All The Time and often WIN in court. That’s why/.

Looks the same as it did 10 years ago. They got over 100 dollars out of me. Still regret going. But if you're bored and have the money.

It’s actually the Crazy Horse flag! Very close to the Ukrainian flag, but on the Crazy Horse Flag, yellow is on top, and blue is on bottom

Hopefully they can reach their goals from year to year. They have to rely on public donations and other means.

Why finish it when people still pay top dollar to view it?
@AdamAndAshlyn
@AdamAndAshlyn Год назад
@@JJ-Toreddiepeople pay top dollar so that they can finish it. Crazy Horse doesn’t take money from the government, so the only way it’s funded is from the admission fee. 40 years ago, the mountain did not have a face carved into it, and there was millions of tons of rock on the mountain that is no longer there. The hand is also mostly carved out at this point. The workers work up there Monday through Friday, 8AM to 4PM, all year round. Even during the winter, as long as it’s above -10 degrees, they’re up there working on it
@mildlyretired634
@mildlyretired634 11 месяцев назад
Plans are in place to complete it. If you do even a small amount of research you would know that it is the largest whole mountain carving in the world and even the basilicas in Europe took hundreds of years. This will be completed in the next 30-50. No federal or state funds will ever be accepted. It’s a work in progress that was started by the native Americans themselves.
