Crazy Kong is an official Donkey Kong clone released by Falcon under license from Nintendo in September 1981 (exclusively in Japan). Because the original game's unexpected popularity led to a shortage of arcade machines, Nintendo struck a deal with Falcon to help produce more machines. The gameplay remains unchanged; however, the sprites have changed color palette, these changes were made to distinguish it from the original. Nintendo only allowed the game to be distributed within Japan, but Falcon violated this agreement by exporting the game to the United States, causing Nintendo to terminate the licensing agreement on January 29, 1982.
