I used to work Security at Disneyland, and yes, we would remove her from the park. Depending on how bad the infraction was, they sometimes get taken away by Anaheim PD. In this case, she would be removed from the park and the stamp an invisible mark on her hands that won't allow here to return to the park. The ink lasts three days, you can't see it though, we could though. ;-) The cast would also make sure everyone is safe, report the incident to Security, re-group and do another show later.
I don't blame the underpaid actors having to deal with stupid people like this on an hourly basis for canceling the show. Honestly, props to Rey and Chewie for keeping their cool.
Sadly, she was right to stop the show. She has no idea if the woman is going to further harrass the actors. being an actor... trust stopping the show like that is pretty common protocol. She was probably also approached by security. With that in mind its best to stop the show and make as little of a scene as possible while the guest is being taken care of.

C'mon man, this is street theater. Rain, or shine, the show must go on. What the woman did was out of line, but pretty clearly a form of a "heckle". She looks more like she's poking a dog with a stick than trying to attack anyone. If you look at it from that standpoint, these actors were doing a fantastic job, because this woman clearly forgot that they were just people in costumes. The guy in the Chewbacca costume wasn't hurt, and as you point out yourself the woman was almost certainly admonished by the security team. As a street performer myself, there's absolutely no chance that me, nor any of the people I've ever performed with would have stopped this show.

Im with the cast. The person in the costume will feel out of character after this. It is bullying and an assault. They should take a moment to step back and adjust. My understanding is that Disney prioritizes the safety of its actors and employees - it kind of has to, being a gigantic amusement park positively brimming with potential OSHA violations. Since there are not regularly stationed security personnel strewn evenly throughout the park (and since part of Disneyland's business model is projecting the feeling that you're in one of their movies), the easiest and most reliable way of reducing accidents/incidents as a result of visitor/employee interactions is to end performances and remove actors from within the vicinity of potential problems immediately.

I was at Disney World this last May The only behaved people there were the kids and the cast members. The amount of man children there was overwhelming. If you can't behave your age, then stay home and save your money. Some of the parents were the worst parents I have ever seen. True. When I visited last July, I saw a dad flipping out about the price of food, like yelling and making a scene. While I understand it is overpriced, I thought it was really inappropriate to spoil his kids day.
I'm sure Disneyland security trailed and "cheerfully" escorted her out of the park. As a former Disneyland cast member, harassing CMs is a huge no-no. Protecting CMs is a prime role for security. It's a fast track to expulsion from Disney poperties.
I worked as a Disney character for decades. This lady was indeed annoying and an classic example of a toddler adult. She should have been dealt with by the escort/handler. It's their job to protect the actors. (If Disney actually still employs those roles, that is.) However, the actors hired for these roles are often very young and lack effective emotional processing skills. To bail on the show should always be the very last resort. Sometimes, the smallest guest infraction is enough reason for a low paid young Disney actor to justify getting out of their "set."
And when did you stop working? Because if it was before the past 10 years a lot of changed policy-wise. There's reasons now behind this unless you are saying when you worked at Disney there were no policies in place to protect your workers.

That's what I was thinking. There has to be more to this story. I was at a show with my son when some college kids start harassing the characters. They were warned about 5 times before all the characters just walked off stage.
Nope, Disney CMs are allowed to immediately put down boundaries and because of unwarranted physical contact being a big legal lingo in corporate’s eyes, she did what she was supposed to do.
They aren’t allowed to break character, even to deescalate situations. Either the Rey actor or some off camera staff made the call to get the actor with a heavy low vision costume out of there before she potentially revealed she would escalate. They don’t have security on stand by. It is in their best interest to seek staff who can intervene on their behalves.

You also don't know that the person didn't suffer consequences. People like that generally do. I feel ignoring that kind of behaviour is always a mistake. I see a lot of comments saying the actors are in the wrong here. They do not get paid to deal with idiots like this. This lady is not the first and will most certainly not be the last disrespectful person they are harrassed by. The park needs more contingencies in place so actors don't have to take it upon themselves to remove themselves from the situation. These are human beings, not puppets for your entertainment.
