Crazy Moose Fights Grouping of some of the huge Alaska bull moose fights
A grouping of some of the huge Alaska bull moose fights we were able to video. Lots of action. It starts out with some light sparring that becomes a bit more aggressive. Then full blown fights.
Stay tuned: We are counting down the days until we are back in Alaska! And we will soon be posting many more videos with lots of all the moose behavior and action starting with antlers in full velvet, to shedding, to the whole rut scene. We intend to get lots more video content so please subscribe to get all the latest, up to date videos.
Thanks for watching our channel. We are the husband/wife team of Rick and Libby Libbey, (Libby squared), New Hampshire wildlife photographers (and part time Alaska.)

Moose antlers are incredible looking. There is something inherently creepy, about a moose slowly walking towards you. Their racks just slowly tilting from side to side. The moose looking right at you getting closer & closer.

It is indeed creepy and intimidating and scary when they show you their evil eye look. But they're usually (ahem...mostly) directing that attitude toward another bull. Fun moments for sure! Thanks for commenting.

@Dan.d649 Год назад
It's always enjoyable to watch these videos. We all just hope with vaded breath that these strong animals don't hurt themselves. Sometimes you can encounter moose in the thick brush, or on an open field fighting. When a bull starts to have a temper, he awaits the competition: another bull to come into the area looking for the same reason to win a potential battle. When two bulls start getting agitated with each other, then they get engaged into a battle that can last for hours, and that battle becomes more forceful. There must be some cows in the area that they are seeking. This is pretty much the evolution of these animals year after year as they fight for dominance. Sometimes cows turn to each other, and fight with their hooves, to get priority to mate with the victor. This can be a rare ordeal. Any considerable cow moose that can be very feisty, would take in the obvious retreat to be considered a winning bull's "first priority" cow. When the mating scene takes place, the bull may allow other cows to proceed into his area as well. Thanks again for all these wonderful videos!!
@MooseManNaturePhotos
@MooseManNaturePhotos Год назад
Thanks Dan! What we've observed is that the bulls fight when the cows are around. No doubt they will get into it without a cow, those are usually lesser dominant bulls, kids who don't know what to do with all that pent up hormonally charged energy. The older bulls tend to conserve their energy for fighting when it counts; over mating rights to the cows. What we find so interesting is that the cows themselves, not quite ready for the bulls, will fight each other over the bull's rut pits, actually shoving him out of the way before he's done making it to his liking. The boss cow will no doubt be first to claim the bull once she's in estrus a couple days later. Fascinating stuff, all of it. The bulls welcome as many cows as will come to his pit/area. They can mate up to 25 cows in the short rut season (!!!). Cows generally mate with one bull but have been known to play the available field...as it were. Thanks for being here with us, it's great fun!

Also, this is actually pretty good footage information that shows some details on why bull moose. The reason why they fight during rutting season is to get a opportunity to get more food, and attract lots of females. There can be up to four winners every year, but it always changes depending if there is a stronger moose, or if the last alpha dies. The strongest, the most violent, and the most smartest get to mate. Losers may or may not die in fights, it depends. Also don’t feed them. It’s going to make them want more food like bears. Also bears and moose have been known to fight.

@MooseManNaturePhotos
@MooseManNaturePhotos 2 года назад
The first segment is a couple of bull sparring, that's just practice for a fight. But later there are a couple of fights. They don't last very long as a rule. And the point of the fighting is for one bull to back off/run away. They rarely fight to the point of serious injury. It's all about winning the girls, after all. Antlers don't come off easily during a fight, they'll break tines, we've seen that often, and only one bull we know of lost his entire antler (the bull here called Mismatch, you can find a few videos with him in it here). Mostly they just make a point "I'm bigger and stronger, now beat it!" type thing. Thanks for asking.

Depends, it's either me (Libby) or Rick. We are Team MooseMan. We work together from different angles. From a distance with long lens reach. With a tree or several nearby just in case. Thanks for watching.

Yes, but when they fight, they seem to zone in on their opponent. We shoot telephotos and crop in during production too so we are not as close as it looks, not at all
