As the summer came to an end, I had hoped to make one more trip to CSX Albany division. When the CSX M363 encountered a major wreck towards the middle of the train in Amsterdam NY at CP 169 on August 4th, I knew the days following the derailment clean up were going to be good. The best catch is tied between CSX S988, a BNSF GEVO rescuing a stalled local, or an Amtrak Lake Shore Limited detour on the Selkirk Branch. S988 was a GE high and wide load train for Buffalo. This train had to return to Selkirk as it was behind the M363 the derailed. The power assigned for this second run of this elusive S988 was the ultimate power desk assignment, a CSX GP38 and an MP15 for a mainline run. Unfortunately this train ran into complications and had to tie down before picking up the load at Rotterdam Junction. On top of those train, I also got a hand full of EMDs, a few old GE leaders, old CWR R123 New York Subway cars heading for scrap and a few of the new CSX heritage units (the 1827 B&O and 1976 Conrail).
