Sophie Xiao the big house where michelle yeoh and her friends are reading the book , right before they all got the message on the phone . That house is located in malaysia . I read in some article
@@SuperSaverPlays It depends on the environment that her daughter is in, if she is in an environment with every one of her peers being westerns, they're bound to have some distance in thoughts, ideas, identities whatsoever... hence leading to her thinking that being Asian is a bad/different thing and be ashamed to be... anyhow, it's good now that her daughter is starting to accept herself! :D
@@FishTail33 Just to provide you with some context of where I'm coming from with this. We live in the States, not Cali either, a city with very few Asians. Still, we can never be ashamed of who we are. Being who you are ain't a choice, but being ashamed is.
Sonny Zheng most times, Asian people are made fun of because of their heritage, and/or dumb stereotypes. For instance, the time where I brought fish sauce to school, I got terribly bullied and student would call me “fish girl,” which made me so ashamed of my Asian heritage. However, everyone grows up in a different environment. One where people aren’t as one-sided, which results in having more pride in your culture!
jxc I mean.... ok, not nice those kids made fun of you. But, bringing fish sauce to school?? Cmon.... that stuff stinks. I hated when one of my co-worker microwaved her salmon lunch at the office. This has less to do with your heritage, and more to do with stinky fish sauce.
ok but the real question is, will there be a sequel where nick and rachel have their wedding and nick’s cousin, astrid, gets together with that guy she met at the end of the movie???
I read somewhere that it's estimated to come out maybe 2022 onwards? They're probably casting and filming soon for the second part and then the third, so the third of the trilogy will come one year after 2nd one does. Something like that
I personally feel most of the character castings were so on-point, it's like they were born to play them. I cannot think of a better Astrid or Peik Lin
Probably the sister -since actress said in one video that she's not a Crazy rich Asian- *edit:* I just saw a video that said "Michelle Yeoh Luxurious life" ... never mind
Yes this film has it’s problems, but I’d say most of them can be reflected back to Hollywood, not the people making CRA. Asian Americans get ONE film after 20 years and it somehow has to speak to every ethnicity and experience? Hollywood let white people make hundreds of racist and exclusive movies before holding them accountable so how about we just enjoy the film for what it is and hope we get more chances in the future for other Asian ethnicities.
Lynnae Strait yup, exactly. sometimes you can’t complain and take this movie as it is because come on, an all asian cast? hollywood’s already giving us something. before we get all the diversity and right stories , we need the basis!
As an Asian (Malaysian, so when i heard it was set in Malaysia, and Singapore, my nostalgia was like WOO) and seeing the title, and JUST a the title for the first time I was like YES OMG
This movie was really inspirational as it had an all Asian cast, but I think they should’ve had at least some background characters that were not East Asian as there are many people that live in Singapore are South Asian, and many South Asians classify themselves as Asian. This film does break stereotypes, but the stereotype that South Asians are not Asian remains. It’s just a thought.
Pavatopia, I think they did... but then again- the movie was focused on East Asians. It is the Eastern Asians that are associated with the wealth. Of course there are other Asians too, but the movie focuses on east Asia, as I mentioned.
I connected to the movie because I don't feel I was accepted by a Hispanic guy's parents that I was seeing. He married a Hispanic. I understand Rachel's pain even though I'm black.
@@hanslanda2469 I have to disagree majority are not and remember there are also black Hispanics (and Asian Hispanics I am one lol) but sadly yes there are racists as in every country.
sadly that's how it is with the more conservative latinos, i apologize on behalf of all of us. i'm trying to change it though, i'm trying to raise my brother to think differently.
me and my ex are same indonesian but different tribe, i'm just half of his tribe. at the beginning everithings it's ok, but in the end he said that i'm not enough because i'm just half. and today i'm understand your and rachel pain.
I JUST SALUTE TO THE DIRECTOR FOR THAT MAJONG SCENE AND ASTRID’S I CAN T MAKE SOMETHING YOUR NOT SCENE BECAUSE DAMN TGAT WAS WHAT I IMAGINED READING THE BOOK
Im glad that Henry was choosen for the male lead in this epic movie! As Iban, Im proud of him! (Iban is one of the ethnic in Sarawak, Malaysia. Henry was Britsh mix Iban)
🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭Oh my God awkwafina is hilarious she always makes me giggle PS 17 I'm half Filipino and Canadian and this movie made me laugh and smile I love it so much it was so badass an awesome LOL.🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
I’m not Asian but when they touched on the subject of Rachel being Asian American, I related to it as a Puerto Rican who was raised in the midwest and only knows English. I remember feeling so out of place as a kid when my family flew to Puerto Rico and I couldn’t speak to any of the family I had there. People would stare with so much discrimination and hatred because I was “not one of them” or “was spoiled/rich” in their eyes. Just for having being raised in America. I honestly really loved this movie in all of it’s production, but that scene really made me feel represented in a way.
I honestly hope there is more Asian movies in Hollywood. This movie was amazing. I’ve seen various Asian movies but I think Hollywood needs to create more. The ones I’ve seen and Asian tv shows have great story lines . It was a great movie!
One of the things that surprised me most about the film is Constance Wu, who I only knew as this brilliant comedian from her series 'Fresh Off the Boat'. I had a hard time realizing this young woman in the film was the same person who had played this overbearing, but in a funny way, mother in the TV series. It's then I realized just how good an actress Constance Wu is, being able to so convincingly play two very different women with two very different personality types.
Growing up adopted by white people the only glimpse I had to into my culture was Margaret Cho’s tv show that was very short lived. After that it was mostly limited to Asian ice skaters in the Olympics. Even though this depicted more of the Chinese heritage, I had an indescribable feeling of pride/happiness/relief.
I absolutely loved EVERYTHING about this movie...that it was all Asians was wonderful..the characters..the writing...the grand production...spectacular scenes of Asia....LOVED EVERYONE...amazing cast...cant say enough...it was lovely..extraordinary film❤🇨🇦
to be honest, id never thought i would even get this kind of exposure in media that represented my asian culture at all in my life, so to say i am grateful is an understatement.
I watched crazy rich asians then started watching fresh off the boat. And now i cant picture rachel, just the badass mom jessica huang now😂😂😂👌. No regrets though❤
Thank you for mentioning Malaysia in this video. Many didnt know that most of the luxurious setting is filmed in Malaysia. The scene where Michele Yeoh was talking to the aunties while on the phone with her son. At first I recognised the background and went omg that looks very similar to my neighborhood, and then bam found out it was hahah. Then I remembered there were giant trucks entering the area, figured now must be the film crew.
YES, much of the opulent scenery was filmed in Malaysia. Glad Akwafina gives credit where credit is due, even a nod to the Joy Luck Club movie in the 90s even though she couldn't mention the name! Her knowledge and respect of the facts make me love her even more.
5:50 monolithic....agree, once when I mentioned to a Hong Kong Asian business friend that I (a South Asian -Pakistani) can differentiate between a Hong Kong, Mainland Chinese or Singapore's on the street of HK, his expression was worth watching
I Watched the movie over fifty times but I cant get over it. I Just love love love to watch over and over again especially the wedding scenes, I had a tear when Constance said I love you to Nick and vice versa its just captivating... its so real
Fabulous movie ! Riveting, fast moving and like you are stepping into a dream ! I loved every character...beautiful people, it was a feast for the eyes and heart.
I remember getting my hands on part of the script when Singapore had its National Day Parade last year. Apparently one of the resting areas was used in the movie.
Grew up watching Michelle Yeoh whoop ass. I feel it's great & deserving that shes playing non action roles nowadays...like "hey you've done enough, don't break anymore bones!"
I've watched crazy Rich Asians now at least 47 times plus I have now bought it on DVD my cable bill is extremely high but I do not care every time I watch this movie I find something new and interesting that was not caught before when I viewed it I am married to an Asian I lived in the Asian culture for 4 years overseas so I do understand some of the experiences in this movie that the actors are portraying. I just movie supersedes Flower Drum song and the world of Suzie Wong both other favorites of mine but this now is the number one favorite movie in my life I am not an Asian person I grew up on a ranch in California raising cattle I am a piece of white toast but the Asian culture has caught my attention so many years ago when I was a boy when I first saw the world of Suzie Wong I've been hooked I hope they make a sequel to this movie but I hope that the do not fill it together where they lose the audience that they've had from crazy Rich Asians a wonderful piece of movie history that this movie will become thank you for entertaining me so many times I know that I will watch this movie hundreds of times again before my life is done
I really enjoyed this movie, and while I know making a movie is a job, it's work, it's how these people earn their living, I get the impression that everyone had a great time making "Crazy Rich Asians," all they did was party--or seem to--and have a blast. I would have loved being part of it!
I've watched this movie more than 5 times!! I really love the wedding scene, so magical! I hope I can have a wedding like that when... never mind I know that will never ever happen to me.
